Let me completely filter out commendations, if not outright remove them from the game. Add their Achievement Rewards to the Master of Rolls. Commendations add more strife to the game than accolades. I mislike the game coercing me to pick a 'favorite teammate.' The system is counter-productive in an MMO where we are regularly matched with 7 other players but are only allowed to commend a single person.
If you want to commend another player, the most effective way is to acknowledge their strengths and deeds in the game's text, rather than this passive anonymous system. This is an MMO and I want to encourage communication.
On the characters that already have 3k+ commendations, I do a mad dash for the exit at every roulette so people won't give me more useless commendations, and hopefully commend someone else instead lol and still I sometimes walk out with 1-2 speedy commends before I got to leave.
Many people already went through what would get you the most commends, but here's my 2 cents on it:
- Playing a support role will inherently net you more commends than playing DPS, especially from DPS whose queue time you are speeding up.
- Be polite and kind, greet your party (avoid annoying or large macros, but do a little extra than just o/) and if anyone is remotely social, engage with them (or be the one to start a conversation!)
- Ensure you're actually playing well. You could think you're doing well while you may be inconveniencing your healers or positioning mobs in an awkward way for your DPS. They notice that stuff and may decide not to commend you because they consider you didn't play well enough to warrant a commendation. Extra points if you keep a speedy pace, allow your party to greed or do good damage in general.
- Have a nice glamour, portrait and adventurer plate set up. A lot of people here have already said it, some people will simply commend you because they like your drip (lol). You don't have to dress skimpy at all if you don't want to. My character with most commends wears a floor-length dress and a comically large witch hat most of the time. You can go for a specific vibe, or just do a funny glam, or whatever. Just don't show up with your driver's license pic to the duty xD
- Just do more duties, get all your roulettes done and don't forget about Guildhests. Eventually you'll get those commends you're missing, you're very close so don't give up!
Since you can only comm one person you're kind of forced into picking a favorite. I think that was the point being made. It's the one thing I don't like about the commendation system. More often then not the party as a whole does well and I'm left having to pick someone at random to comm when they should all get one.
Just need better commendation UI.
Currently you have to click on small button to even open commendation UI and that's where most of the people just dip.
Instead of that, when you leave the duty have commendation screen appear automatically and allow you to select player to commend, including these who already left.
Tested it 2 days ago again and results are always the same; Healer wins every single time no matter how good you play with other classes.
I played as a DRK in Endwalker dungeon (where you murder people that transform into monsters, forgot its name). Our healer died countless times to every single boss. I had to ress healer with phoenix down and keep my other dps alive with shield. I did everything in my power to save as much as possible and do last boss without wiping. Even gave coordination and ask for phoenix down ress, get shield, etc.
Did I get something for all that effort? No zero thing. All comms were either on others or people just left as quickly as possible.
Then you can play mostly afk with a healer and press 1 button every 3 second and you get 2-3 comms every single dungeon you do. It's that easy.
You’ll be surprised by the amount of players who thinks that -all- deaths are at the fault of healers with the following logic: “No heal = 0 HP = Die = Healer Fault!!”.
Unironically, by being the infamous Medica Mage, one would garner much more comms because “omg so much heals! We immortalz!” xD
