RP shout ads are obstructive to chat and gameplay

Just blacklist them and you won't see their shouts anymore.

I think your personal experience with it hitting close to home is blowing the actuality out of proportion - If it's multiple individuals doing it for separate venues, then it isn't necessarily obstructive on play, it would just be an indicator of how popular that activity is.

Granted, I do think approaching people in a non-consensual activity is a bit out of hand, especially when it references mature content for a 13-rated game, and whilst ESRB doesn't rate online interaction -- The interactions carried out online should be taken into account with this in mind - As per the ToS:

You agree to act in accordance with that ToS - If you don't and if someone reports you, then it is entirely on you for ignoring that. Whilst this does apply to Profanity and Offensive Language, it would and should also apply to behaviorisms as well.

and yes, whilst parental monitoring is crucial, ensuring that minors are not exposed to inappropriate content is a community/internet-wide responsibility. If issues were to progress, it wouldn't be viewed as "Well the parent should have monitored harder" - I would dare anyone in a serious situation to use that argument, and see how it works out.

Certainly the adults partaking in this behavior should be more cognizant of the ages of people they may be interacting with, but that issue goes both ways. Kids will be kids and many will reach that age where they are curious about that stuff, which is all the more reason their guardian should be more hands on with their time spent in this game and many others.

you really think underage kids should be exposed to this kinda stuff? you really gonna sit hear and seriously say it can be the kids fault or that the parent should be in alert 24/7 in fear of some goober being a pervert? what is making you excuse such behaviors? imagine being banned if you use damage meters and not for asking kids to do erp and people like you coming up with any mental reason they can fathom to excuse it, holy smokes. it's honestly pretty simple, you either ban anyone who makes any sort of 18+ ad or make the game 18+ if you want this weird ahh behavior to be part of your game.

I live in Las Vegas so maybe I have a distorted view on this, but surely any 13 year-old knows what a courtesan is already? Possibly by a different name, I'll grant.

I never said the SHOULD be exposed to it, but I don't think it's the end of the world if they are. The whole "save the children" spiel is tired and pointless. The fact of the matter is minors are exposed to this stuff everywhere they go. There comes a point where you realize it is fruitless to try to stop or ban it. Only thing you can do is try to educate your children and let them make their own decisions and their own mistakes.

I think trying to go all puritanical and ban adults from enjoying the game in their own way, in private, is an exercise in missing the point. A minor being exposed to the adult community in this game is not something worth being so upset about.

There's a reason that the ratings cannot account for online interaction though. So, yea, as a parent, if YOU allow your child to play an online game that has interactions with other people around the world, YOU should be monitoring. And that isn't condoning anything that is directly targeted at children, especially if the age of the person is suspected or announced. Anything that happens like that should be reported and dealt with. And jfc. This holier than thou moral panic against sexuality. No, overt/explicit sexual conduct/activity should not be directed at kids. But how is it so many people are perfectly fine with exposing kids to violence but have conniption fits at the though of hearing or being exposed to something sexual in nature (and even then, that is from the player base only??)? Have you taken in any of some of the stuff that happens in MSQ??

Another chat channel specifically for RP advertissements would be nice.

There is an RP tag and there is an Other tab in PF. Adding an RP channel is not a hard ask, and if anything I'm surprised this doesn't even exist given that there is a substantial RP community in this game.

For those saying that this is the parent's responsibility - it is.
And I'd argue it is also SEs responsibility as well (moderation and adherence to their own TOS).
And also the RPers/RP community's responsibility, too (being aware that children play this game and moderating their behavior and others in their community in this concern).

"Kids'll be kids and they'll find a way". Sure, but that doesn't negate the parent's/the other adult's playing the game/company's responsibility.

It's also sort of a red herring to say "well, SE shows courtesans". Yes, but not in the nature, context, or "down the rabbit hole" that ERP can and does. You're dealing with anonymous adults online, not a public company. SE adheres to a T rating for the most part and what ERP does is a spectrum that extends far beyond T.

The issue is people basically being lazy and wanting to remove their own accountability. This has resulted in this whole cancerous spread of culture around the "They should do blah blah blah because it's easier." when there is no actual thought on what is actually easier, the only thing they care about is they personally don't have to do something and can shift the blame somewhere else when something negative happens.
