It's clear as early as that one airship flashback with Cid tbh. Because it doesn't matter whether you were there or not, he always sees you and then even says "it was you wasn't it" later.

I'd kinda like a "legacy" server where you could play a old expansion as it was intended in that server. (Not really intrested in playing 1.0 though)
obviously population would come up as a issue, but it's certainly something I wish I could experience.
Nah, but I'd welcome "hardcore" servers with no teleport system (only chocobo porters and airships), and far more dangerous enemies in every area.
With loss of exp when you die and all.
At least one of those servers per datacenter would be nice.
With unique gear you could only get playing those servers.
Characters created on such servers would not be transferable to normal ones.
No. It would not. Part of what made it work, was the people. It's simply not going to be the same.
WoW has classic servers, other games like Everquests do fresh start servers and the like, but none of those either, are the same as the original experience was.
It's community was what made that version shine in ways that cannot be recaputured. Was there fun content (imo) that was in 1.0 that doesn't exist in the current game? Yes. But resurrecting it? No, it isn't worth it for the devs, the stockholders, or really, even the players.
So a big thing about stuff like WoW classic and Everquest 1999 is entirely because there are large sections of the playerbase that want to go back to those early years due to dislike of what the modern game is, add in some were also private servers that got official support. Now we go back to the subject of 1.0. a time where I have seen no one have nostalgia for, something people consistently say was a nightmare of a game because of how much content it lacked, it's disorganized story and generally just wasn't fun.
like there's no real reason to go back to 1.0, it'd gain more traction if we asked for FFXIV classic but it was original launch ARR because of how much of a nightmare 1.0 was. Devs don't just half-heartedly decide to nuke their entire game and change it entirely from the ground up, they did so because what was there just wasn't good.
Reminder that the reception to 1.0 was so poor, that the then CEO of SquareEnix felt the need to make a public apology regarding it. Stating that it caused "great damage" to the Final Fantasy brand.
No. You do not want this.
Yepp, that is the main difference. WoW Vanilla was a game, which had a really huge fanbase. They even had very well working private servers because of it. I played on one of them. xD
And this is not the case with FF14 1.xx. There is no fanbase, no good private servers, no talk about it on social media etc. I guess, if SQEX would publish a 1.23b server then the people would play it maybe for two weeks and then stop.
Cheers
