Is this for the sole purpose of wanting to know if that person is nice to you because he's a friendly player or because of your pixel boobs?

Once in a blue moon I'll meet someone that'll lose their mind if you refer to them as a she if they're male irl and vise versa. Other than that, I don't see a need for gender signs.

That's always funny :p.

I like to follow that up with "last time i checked, guys didn't have tits".

The players chose their gender, so they are fully aware of the "confusion" and it may actually be what they are looking: role-play another gender!
I don't even bother asking people their RL gender, RL name, RL country, RL picture, RL credit card number... I'm playing a game, not trying to scam people. Because that's kind of the feeling I get when people start asking me a lot of personal questions after being in a party together for 10 minutes. So, I simply reply with answers that can also directly apply to my character (which is really funny and demands to be creative! :D)

Anyway, my point is, don't sweat it.
Just call them by their character name and gender.

Haha I've seen this happen sooo many times. Gender is serious business! It's mostly girls that freak out "UMM IM A GIRL WTF?" lol I just ignore, too lazy to care/correct people..let em wonder forever :]
