Just to be clear, I was not supporting Reddit or implying that it is better. What I was saying is that these kinds of sites have caused problems that extend beyond that particular site. In other words, Reddit is so bad it causes problems even outside of Reddit itself. There is a large sociological impact.
I grew up in TES 3 online forums. The official forums and php third party forums from this era had virtually zero problems. Occasionally a troll had to be banned, but the general community was full of thoughtful people that were interested in genuine discussion.
Now to be fair, another element that had changed is the internet has gotten increasingly younger.
