I don't understand how people make so much Gil in this game

Crafting is kind of a weird one since what happens with crafting is that it pulls in gil generated from other players and acts as a gil sink, while making the person who does the crafting a focal point for the overflow. Gil gets removed from the market board transactions and dealing with materia, since crafting materia is kind of expensive.

You can make a really good amount of cash by crafting gear at start raid tier and then after that its about playing the marketboard.

Pay for more SE approved bots. Max out gear spam ventures. Some minions go for 10+ mill. Steady flow of dye, old HQ greens, housing items, and desynths. Best if you can do it as much as possible white and black dye aren't super common but if you have max amount of retainers the chances go up. You also will have max amount of MB to sell all the junk. Zero skill, zero fun max amount of cash for NFTs for SE.

Literally everything I do is making me money somehow.

I get tomestones through daily roulettes, which also give girl.
Equipment I receive from roulette, I sell or turn in for GC seals.
I do daily hunts to level lower jobs, and for sacks of nuts. Each successful solo hunt is 1000-1500 gil and each expansion has 3 leveling bills and a weekly, worth 5k.
I focus on things in the Challenge Log each week, more gil and that gives me ideas to keep from standing still.
Weekly Custom Deliveries are extremely simple to craft and provide scripts, EXP, and a nice amount of gil. Scripts can be turned into materia to be sold.
Daily map allowance. I don't do maps myself often, but a level 90 Kumbhiraskin Map nets a profit of 25k each day on Excalibur.
I sell 95% of the tradeable items my two retainers bring me, putting them on the market board instantly. Sometimes this isn't so helpful, but a little gil adds up over time.
I have no use for wolf marks, so lately they are all going towards Ventures and Grade VIII Dark Matter. Allied seals are used for Aetheryte Tickets, which I use for ports 500g and up. Hunt currency adds up fast, so I could use them for every single port if I wanted, but I'm OCD about saving.

I could think of more, but my brain is tired. There are lots of good money makers. Good luck.

Back in the day there were a select few per server that got the job done and raked in millions. Now everyone and their mother has crafting and gathering capped because it is a cakewalk. I know people with capped crafters that have literally NO idea how to craft. I have my billion so I don't really care but it does have to suck for people trying to pull in gil now.

So your idea of a crafter's utopia is one where there are just a few gate keepers monopolizing the entire market? Sorry, unlike other MMOs that make crafting such a pain in the arse no one wants to do it, leaving ample room for those who do to capitalize; FFXIV is a very welcoming mmo that encourages its playerbase to partake in many of its activities by NOT making a mind numbing, tedious, mundane grind out of every single thing.

Crafting and gathering is still great by itself due to the self-sufficiency it grants you. You make gil by spending less than what you bring in, and having crafters/gatherers leveled allows you to spend time instead of gil to meet your needs, and you can do that while your retainers are deployed all over the globe.

IOW, it doesn't suck at all for all the new crafters and gatherers as much as you would like it to suck for them. Why do you think there is so many of them? And the fact that there are so many who go the path of the least resistance gives players like you the means to take advantage of their laziness. I'm not quite certain what your issue is considering you have billions to your name. It most certainly isn't the well-being of your competition fellow players.

Challenge log alone nets you 100K/gil a week just for playing the game. That's not counting the gil generated in the process of doing it, as well (from dungeons and so on.) Of course, that means you have to do a wide enough variety of activities to hit 30 different items on the log, but you can knock out a ton of them just by hanging out in the Gold Saucer for a few hours.

As others have said, levequests are the best means of generating gil out of thin air. Market manipulation is the best means of getting gil from other people. You don't even have to be that high end of a gatherer to do it; one of my in game friends brags that he"broke" the lightning shard market when he was barely a level 35 NIN, and made six million gil just from market manipulation alone. Didn't even involve other servers (this was still ARR.) He put up the shards 20 at a time slowly undercutting the RMT bots, who dutifully relisted their blocks of 1000+ for 1 gil less every 10 minutes, until he got them down to around 25 gil. Then he bought up all the cheap shards, removed his listings, and put them back up for 99 gil in blocks of 500, quadrupling his money. He did this for about two months and leveled up his own miner to 50 in the process.

This is just the same as 'work for your money'. Playing dungeons or doing leve's/fates etc will also bring in money. The idea with fast cash is spending less effort to gain more. Because otherwise you are still only slowly generating a little (and 100k/week while nice is not realy fast because you can very quickly spend a big chunk of this by just teleporting).

The main issue with crafting is that there is no need for players to buy the gear. Tomestone gear is essentialy enough all the way to the final dungeon of a main campaign (which you then cannot play due to ilvl restrictions), and there are stores that sell basic gear at the required lvl for prices that are simply too low to realy allow the market to compete here. And getting the tomestones isnt difficult either, it just takes time. By the time you reach the next main campaign you generaly have played enough for a full set again. Add in that some retainers sometimes already being in a gear piece of a much higher level which then already is enough to join anyway. At which point you can then start to collect the higher set of tomestone gear with the bunch of poetics you already collected.

Thats why consumables are best for this, they generaly arent sold by an NPC. And many times require a lot of items from gatherers, to which a lot of players wont bother.

I started June 2021 and I'm currently holding over 35 million gil. Granted I have a lot of time to play, but I first started earning notable cash by gathering alone, and I did not have maxed gatherers. When Endwalker hit, easy-to-farm materials such as Silver Ore sold for over 500gil per item... 50k a stack is really nice when you can carve 999 out of the ground in an hour with a sub-par miner.

I recognize that was a weird time with folks leveling up crafters. They bought the easy mats at high prices.

These days, my BTN and MIN are 90... and I took the time to level a crafter. Once I realized folks USE food in this game... and saw prices for HQ food... I wanted in. Consumables!

I still gather, but only so I don't have to purchase mats from anybody else. I will buy one material dropped by monsters when it dips below a certain price. But other than that, I farm the crystals and the mats to make HQ food.

Then I make it and sell it.

I usually save a while and splurge. If I'd never splurged during this expansion, I'd have almost 70 million gil. That's how one anti-social ignorant player made her shinies!

I've made a ton doing maps. One map run (by one I mean a night of doing a parties worth of maps) nets me about 500k not including mats. Something very few people do considering when I form a PF for them I get people who have a closet full of maps. Those currently doing maps only seem to like to do Endwalker as when we started doing Shadow bringers ones some people dropped out, despite it netting you a lot of gil to and mats that go for more than the current Endwalker ones. The happiness fabric goes for about 30kish The exciting is rarer and seems to go more. To give you an idea of how little people do maps, one of the rarest achievements/titles in the game is reaching the end of the The Excitatron 6000 20 times. (which is hard don't get me wrong as getting to the end is entirely RNG unless you have someone who is the living embodiment of a rabbits foot like I do I've only been mapping for about a month or two and I've done 10 I believe.

The way to do maps in case you want a walk through, you gather about 3 kumb maps from wonderous tails and or gathering, you can only hold one type at a time so once you get one you open it (it doesn't have a timer so you can have it deciphered indefinitely) you get another and stick it in your chocobo bag. And lastly one on your person. That's 3 kumb maps. You form a party requesting every person brings at least one. (Most have 3 as well) and if you get around a full party of say 5-7 (8 is rare) that's a total of 21 runs with 7 players and 15 with 5 on kumb maps alone. The portal to The Excitatron 6000 which is the map only dungeon also drops often with them, the chest from defeating a chamber can be about 10-50k I don't have the exact figures but it's quite a lot when including the chests that can drop from mobs and this is even if you don't clear the dungeon but get halfway through. Clearing the dungeon itself meaning all 5 chambers always nets you a 100k and that's not including any mats you get some of which can go for 100k. By the end of doing at least 10 runs you're looking at about 500k or more and that's again, JUST the Excitatron 6000. If you get people with shadow maps and go do the roulette one in Shadowbringers you're looking at a lot more gil.

And not including gil you also get fashion accessories and items for mounts exclusive to maps. A good map run lasts an entire evening and is a super fun and fast way of earning gil. And no one does them. Seriously, I only recently learned that maps lead to secret dungeons with exclusive mats. No one tells you, no one talks about it.
