I can't say I only see it in FFXIV, passive aggressive people are all over the internet, if you disagree with someone he will either try to insult you, be passive aggressive or attempt a mix of both. It's hilarious really.
Even your and my comment can and will be viewed as passive aggressive by another person and make them feel attacked.

Grilled chicken is awesome! My stepdad used to baste his with a sauce made with melted butter and beer. I do the cajun chicken thing in a cast iron skillet so I can properly blacken the chicken.

I can't do passive-aggressive. Every time I try it comes off Tsundere. It's not like I'm trying to be mean, but some people are jerks...not that it really bothers me when you do it.
