We are not asking if it is intentional or not. We are asking to find a way to change it. At least sometimes... Thank you.
I find probably every aspect of this thread annoying and yet it is so valid. Being british my first instinct is to complain about everything because thats what we do, but lets try and look at this objectively with my opinions on the matter.
The comments about how there based in japan and its logical for them to carry out maintenance at the same time every patch don't convince me and let me explain why. As stated SE is an international company catering to customers all over the world, and therefore they should be doing what they can to please the entire spectrum of there customer base. If you picked three major timezones, GMT/EST/PST, I do not believe it to be unreasonable for them to work unsociable hours for 2/3 patch days when you consider how often there going to come along.
I would agree that large content patches and things like the server merge are obviously more 'logical' as you say, to be carried out in there normal working hours because of the work load and probability of something going wrong, but that wouldnt stop them from doing things like emergency maintenance on a fishing hook recipe at a different time to keep part of the community happy.
I work in retail and can say that I've worked some rediculous hours to benefit a small minority of customers. Some game stores open for midnight releases, the catering market such as hotels and restaurants probably have it the worst.
This is just my opinion on the matter at hand. Am I biased? Being in the GMT timezone and in a very customer service driven sector of work, quite possibly. Are my points valid? I'm open to debate. The arguement for and against are pretty much the same which is probably why its such a heated topic.
With all that being said though I don't really care how they do there maintenance because even though I can't freely go out with a daughter that needs looking after at 8pm, I can slap on a console game or if the wife is watching Eastenders I can go stick needles in my eye for entertainment
Well said, Lynex!
This is a useless thread, started and supported by the same group of sissies that would sue a coffee company for ordering 'hot coffee' and not label it 'hot coffee'. It's really pathetic to see how 4 hours of impacted down-time would cause so much discomfort and rage, and am embarrassed, albeit not surprised, to see this type of egomaniacal complaints. The only potentially valid complaint here is the early notification, which, working in the SaaS industry I can tell you I am very familiar with, doesn't happen all the time.

Problem is dear Jinko, myoozek, lynex, etc... that we "rage" or so because we are busy the whole day with our jobs or schools and some days we can't play at all... and it pains us a bit to see that every time there's a mant. it's always during those few hours per week we reserved ourselves for online gaming hobby.
Sincerly,
people with other things to do besides ffxiv
and ?
Seriusly, you "people with other things to do" ask to move maintance time from your prime time.
SE move it
maintance end in someone other prime time with people having things to do.
You didn't resolved anything, you just moved your inconvenience to someone other <_<
People should get used to the fact that FFXIV servers are placed in Japan, they would put JP prime time in priority simply because they don't want to pay overtime and getting their main/local customers pissed off at the same time.
Don't think it has something to do with overtime as maintenance always takes place during the night JST. If this was the issue, then maintenance would be during normal office hours in Tokyo which isn't the case.
The main reason is most likely that EU prime = lowest of amount of players connected at the same time. So less customers are affected, and that makes complete sense. That's what is happening IRL often when there is engineering work could it be for road or train... Would be funny if London Underground would close major lines on weekday between 8am and 8pm :p Nope it's done during weekends and overnight so the least possible amount of commuters are affected.
It may also be easier for SE to close server/re-open server during off-peak times so less players will try to connect at the same time when servers are back up. A maintenance ending during JP Prime could cause more issues.
