Mentor needs to mean something again

The player base put more on it than it was supposed to be.

What it was supposed to be: Be a decent player. Help new characters understand the game. Fill slots that need filled.

What it is NOT: Carry new players through content

Mentor never meant a damn thing and NN chat has been a general chat channel for ages now.

You never hear the good stories about mentors being helpful. Did you report or kick them OP? If they have advice why did the group listen? Is a mentors word law? If the player failed to do their duty why didn’t the party kick them? The crown doesn’t change anything. If it didn’t exist you’d still get the same players that you did and you’d still be here complaining about the same thing with a different title.

You can take the mentor icon away from bad mentors what does that solve? You will still queue up shitty people who will demand their way. The main problem isn’t them. You can’t change bad people. The problem is your own way of handling the situation. Talk it through, attempt to comply or just vote kick them. Your choice, but if the majority don’t want them kicked then it’s not a problem to some. I don’t understand why this is difficult.

The people here crying about bad people are also the problem. They do nothing to shut them down but cry. Report people and I bet you they will never harass you or anyone again once SE talks to them. Kick them and eventually they will submit. With enough kicks eventually it will get through the persons head they they’re the problem. My advice for you OP attempt to live in peace with others and if their way doesn’t work and they become non compliant, kick them and report them. Bet once SE talks to them they will be less hostile. If they were hostile. Use your judgment and stop coming here to complain if you haven’t put effort in working out the problem or used the tools SE provided.

Bro. Them upping the requirement to 1,500 comms already killed off most mentors. The system is already too exclusive as it is.

Your first mistake was thinking the crown ever meant anything.

There just needs to be a better system for this.

Best idea is to change the crown into an ugly watering can symbol. So people don't get it just for the "ooh shiny"

Mentor is a trash system. However, funny complaints of yours. I am not a mentor, but I almost never use regen, and what do you mean "slow ress" you at the end of a fight? For one, just respawn, two why the heck* would anyone waste swiftcast at the end of a fight? Complete waste, plus you would get debuff. :rolleyes:

I have been a mentor for a year +, all i try to is a help, if it's not wanted, I allow the party to do their thing, and just do my best. Mentor system doesn't need a rework, I feel it's those that are mentors and don't embrace the role, that do. I will run mentor tag, and tell at start if I plain just don't remember the dungeon. Mentors get a bad name from those that get it and just don't care what it means. I love to teach because I started learning myself, and even as mentor I solo mostly cuz well, people don't like to be helped for some reason. I'm just telling, apparently, not explaining how things work. I can't fix others, just me, so I stopped trying, just because of that stigma. Well mostly, lol, I can't help but to try and help xD <3

asides I fought for mentor before they revamped with 5.0 and they robbed me, I soloed my way back just to be one, because well, I like to teach, I'm not the best but i want to keep a good community.

Just my small attempt to remove the Mentor stigma, because there are those of us that legitimately care.

Gotta say, it's funny seeing all of these I had one bad mentor comments. Go post in tails of duty finder if you gotta rant about one player. Because that's what all mentors are. Dunno why people expect mentors to be any better than random players. SE isn't going to do anything that would and changing the symbol isn't gonna help either.
As a mentor I don't bother posting about all the sprouts who are just mean spirited.

They need to just get rid of the system entirely. It's pointless and it always has been. I was around 100-200 comms short from the new requirements and I'll never activate mentor status.

You can help people out just fine if they have any questions or concerns with or without the burger king crown next to your name and given the amount of complaint threads we see about Mentors, Having the crown attached to your name is less a positive thing and more of a giant bulls-eye on your back from people who have made up these expectations in their head on how a mentor should be acting at all times.

It's honestly exhausting and why you'd want to potentially put yourself through that in a game where you're supposed to be having fun is beyond me.
