It was either Bert of Rodigault's idea, but I went with Bert in the end.

Ywain trains so much in his spare time that going to Stillgade Fane to meditate will just further isolate him more. As someone who took woodworking classes a long time ago, it can also be a bit meditative and relaxing while you're cutting and sanding wood into works of art. Woodworking allows him to meet various people and it will be a nice practical skill he could use in the future .... like making spears for recruits to save money or crafting something nice as a present to future love interest.

On a more serious note, I chose Bert in the end because it seemed like the most practical advice. The Guildmaster(?) had no idea what he was looking for, so Bert's suggestion of getting into woodworking as a hobby gives him time to develop a new talent while also having the possibility of meeting up with a Carpenter or Conjurer.

I was tempted somewhat by the meditation idea, though.

I also didn't recognize the client, but I'd like to make a note that Astrid suggested to date CLIENTS more than collegues per se, so basically anybody who tasks something to the lancer's guild (even Kai-E-Senna!) which imho makes it even worse.

As for Rodigault, it's not go in the woods and meet people, but go there and take some time alone to think about what you really want/do some self-reflection, since he's looking for a partner but he has absolutely no clue of what he wants, which in my opinion would also be an obstacle for any relation developping, even if he was to meet someone.

Astrid's didn't sit well with me because coming onto people you're working with is such a dangerous thing... I feel like you shouldn't do that. For a lot of reasons. If something sparks naturally then sure but it's such a risky and forward thing it's not something I'd ever recommend to someone actively looking for relationships. I immediately wrote Astrid off for that.

I think Rodrigault had the best life advice - like if this guy really doesn't even know what he wants he should do some serious reflecting before he starts looking for a relationship. Know yourself.

But I think Bert's was the most effective for solving the specific task we were presented - a tactful way to meet people with common interests... by getting an interest. Which is also some good life advice. He's blunt about it and carpentry was an awkwardly specific suggestion, but overall I thought it was the most likely to work.

Yup, I was gonna vote for Bert just because Bert, but his idea made the most sense to me.
Plus the lancer said he enjoys honing his body and skills, and woodworking would have a lot of physical skill, so he might like it.

Even if he doesn't find anyone through it, he at least picks up a skill and becomes a more well-rounded individual.

Isolation wouldn't get him a partner, and coming on to his clients doesn't seem professional at all, and could lose him the respect he has earned over the years.

Viera aside, since some of their ears defy natural logic, ears are moldable, so most things would just fit around them and retain their shape, mostly.

I ended up going with Bert.

Astrid's idea is incredibly bad, you NEVER mix work and love, it always ends badly. Rodrigault's idea wasn't bad, but it could end up isolating him much more, which is not a good idea. However, Bert's idea of a hobby isn't a bad one considering carpentry is a skill that can be used for many things in Eorzea, and through it he could find others who enjoy the craft. This helps him both in work and in finding love.

I feel like there was a very missed opportunity, back when they were originally building the game, to make headgear models adjust shape according to the ear length settings. Instead they're just a fixed shape, so the ear covers are modelled at maximum size regardless of what the individual would need.

I also think (especially if they were adjustable) it would be good to make hoods simply drape wider over the ears instead of having the dedicated pockets sewn into them.

My Elezen has short ears too, so the standard ear covers look ridiculous on him - but at the same time, the Vermillion Cloak (? - the Lv70 Eureka one) doesn't have anything special for ears - just the Hyur model for everyone - and it looks just a bit odd on him. His ears stick out just enough that the hood should drape over them, but there's nothing there.

Side note on Miqo'te ears: since I started my Miqo'te characters I've been surprised at how oddly some hats are modelled around them. I would have thought they'd have an easy reference model of where the ears should go - it's the same size and shape on every character since it's integrated into the hairstyles - but when you get hats that cover the ears and include Elezen-style fabric covers, some of them are way off. They can be an inch or two forward of the actual ear placement, and often not as long. It makes a bit of sense on 'fancy' hats if they need to fit around other elements of the design, but I've seen it on plain hoods as well.

I thought it was more finding someone he already knows and seeing if they'd be willing to go on a date with him. Not getting him to ask someone out.

I would've liked Bert's idea more if the hobby in question was left vague, or it was something our mystery guy would like to choose by himself. Having it shoehorned into woodworking is mainly what made me doubt his suggestion, even if the quest will tailor it to work.

I’m of the opposite opinion. If you go into trying to find someone with a checklist of you must be these things and must not be these other things, you’re going to stumble to find someone who meets those expectations, and then have to hope they return your interest in them.

Being open to whoever he meets means he’s more likely to take chances on people he might not have otherwise considered. At least, that’s my view on things.
