Dude, you must not know much about WoW... the game's original code is from 2001!!!! 18 years ago. It's now legally old enough to have sexual relations with! That's how old it is. The original coding was meant for a RTS. And they turned it into an MMO. Vanilla wow was pure spegetti coding. It took them forever to figure out how to expand your base backpack because that backpack is actually part of your characters programming and holds all your currency, mounts and everything. You know how they figured it out? They tested it out on an isolated test server and fubar'd it countless times before getting it right. And now all they do with it is let you get 4 more slots with an authentication... that's kinda lame but whatever. It proves sgetti code isn't an actual reason it's just an excuse. SE has more money and resources then Blizzard iirc. And a huge chunk of their profits come from FFXIV. So you'd think they'd be willing to invest in this. Which is sadly why I'm more inclined to believe that fixing inventory space is low priority because less people would be interested in the extra retainers, rather then it's impossible or too difficult to do. Which honestly disappoints me if it's true. It would be less of a headache in the long run to create a streamline fix rather then these constant and poor quality band-aids.

I played WoW when it came out. I'm aware of its history. However it's a different animal altogether. The fact that one company overcame their coding problems with one solution does not necessarily follow that another company can follow the same line of reasoning to solve their own problems. WoW started with one company working on one game. FFXIV was outsourced to hell and had to be basically remade to survive in what was probably a genuine miracle of re-working everything within a year.

Yes making money is their top priority. It's a company and that's its purpose. However the way they're going about inventory management and expansion reveals far deeper problems with the game they're working with beyond mere financial considerations.
SE is unlikely to throw money at the game unless it'll demonstrably turn a profit to do so and expecting them to toss money at it because you say it's a good idea and will make the game succeed is.. a bit silly.

YES, the game would benefit from a reworking very much more so than all the bandaid fixes we are getting. I stated so several times. My only Caveat is be aware of what you're asking for and when you make unrealistic demands like "Just give us 2k more spaces" understand the possible hurdles that presents.

The bottom line is this is a request for Square Enix. Not a request for fellow forum-goers. If Square Enix wants to make BS excuses and grovel to us about how hard it is, let them do it themselves. Don't do it for them. There's nothing to be gained from preemptively telling people why something wouldn't work. In fact, it's quite harmful, because it muddies the waters on what paying customers actually want.

If Square sees that people want something, they're either going to add it to the list of things they want to work on, or present a reason as to why they won't. We don't need a middleman.

You have no responsibility or obligation as a consumer to sit around trying to think about what's practical or reasonable from a company's business or programming perspective. Just say what you want, and if it's feasible, let Square figure it out. Most ideas on the level of this one are totally reasonable, feasible, and were done elsewhere in even older games. Don't worry yourself with the details. Let 'em know what you want so they can have a firm foundation on how to allocate their resources.

I'm under no obligation to think, of course. But I like to try to reason things out AND I like to help people make educated statements and requests. If people are going to wildly speculate and make statements like "it's an easy fix".. I'm gonna waste a few minutes dragging that into perspective. I'm not advocating for anyone or anything other than being realistic.

I would be surprised if the people who read these forums glean ANYTHING other than "players want more storage and glamour slots" from this.

More slots would be nice, But I'd also like to be able to use the plates anywhere, not just the main citys. I find i still keep some things on me for glamour.

Educated statements and requests require education. And that's not a jab -- none of us know how Square Enix's internal processes work. So we can't be educated about it. We can make assumptions, or we can take them at their word for things they've occasionally said, but in the end, it's best if we just tell them what we want.

If I know one thing about game development, it's that nothing is impossible, just different levels of time-consuming and expensive.

Know what else was improbable and totally unrealistic?

You said it: it's a clunky addon. It's limited, thus not really helping that much with the issues other than allowing them to say "we gave you more space".

Look, I agree that the code is probably a mess. But they could actually sort it out if they truly wanted to do it. But they don't. As I said, why invest resources to fix something when fixing it would imply that they would need to truly alleviate the inventory issues and lose money? They won't fix it.
