As I said, I don't like when people fluff up their stories to try to make a point. My bad I suppose? But if you want to equate that to trying to be a keyboard warrior, I guess that's fine. I'll wear it like a badge ;)
It was a simple question if those supposedly out of control bans were actually confirmed or just "i saw it on the internet!". Don't try to extrapolate the situation to strangers you've never bothered to ask. There's nothing personal about saying your friend was banned. If that's your only point of confirmation it would make it harder to damn SE over it though, not even getting into bias. They could've done anything else you don't know about that brought it on instead of this shouting match.
I just got a 10 day ban finished. My first offense ever on the forums. A person was bashing the group he was in, insulting anyone who didn't feel bad for him. He attacked the tank, he attacked the healer, and said "not like I needed his healing I'm a rdm" so in the account he said the whm, pulled him into a pack of mobs to teach him a lesson. He refused to say what his part was up until that and was crying for skill to be removed.
All I said was his attitude was likely the reason it happen. (I actually said him acting like a pr*ck may have had something to do with it) he cried and reported me
Eh. I mean unfortunately yours and Tigerlilleys were probably straight up rule breaking (name calling). Yeah, the bans are heavy handed here I think everyone knows that. But rules are rules.
I think the ones I really wanted to address by this thread were the historical beta ones that stung a lot of people as well as those who have received multiple bans for the same post. In that reddit thread, someone said they've been forum banned from day one without posting. I hoped to address that the customer support here has often left players high and dry.
I think there needs to be a little more visability of the mod team here so things can be communicated properly and/or appealed if they were questionable bans in the first place (eg the person who got himself banned on accident).
So you chose to resort to name calling, which is clearly against the forum rules, instead of simply saying you thought his attitude might be related to what he experienced. You earned the ban through your own actions.
It may not have even been the OP or others posting in the thread that reported you. Anyone reading the thread could have done it. But you're going to attack the OP of that thread because you don't want to take responsibility for your own actions and need someone else to blame.
This is SE's house and they set the rules. They aren't hard rules to follow. It just takes a moment to read through what you've typed and ask yourself "Is this something that I really should be saying" before hitting that post reply button. If you're finding it difficult to stay within the rules, then you should reconsider posting here. This isn't a teenage social media app where you can say anything you want and suffer no consequences.
https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comme...orums/d1fpwmu/ Yup, consequences.
https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comme...orums/d1fieal/ Oopsies, accidentally criticized Square. Gotta have them consequences.
https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comme...orums/d1fihpl/ Banned four times for the exact same instance of an offense. Gotta face those consequences hard.
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...=1#post4703717 Two strikes, you're permabanned.
https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comme...orums/d1fhoux/ Hmmm...
https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comme...orums/d1g07cm/ Oops, criticized Square again.
That brings to mind a thought. If so many people got perma'd for offensive language, why do we... Not have an offensive language filter like a normal forum?
Then again, I suppose a normal forum wouldn't have a 1,000 character limit when posting either.
The ease of getting banned on these forums has resulted in a lack of centralized for ffxiv related theory crafting, as to properly look into how the damage formula works or the intricacies of how actions interact needs the amount of information that to can only gather from bug abuse (ie bane bug), third party tools (act and other network parsers) or datamining. The ease of getting banned for mentioning these things discourages any proper discussion on the forums about bis selection and drives it off to other sites that aren't as conductive for discussions like reddit, and now discord.
To be honest, this place is a small part of the community. Most players go elsewhere to discuss the game. While bans are frustrating, the loss of being able to talk here is not major. I can only say the only downside is being unable to report bugs on the forums, but you can do that in game too.
