Open world PvP Zone

Sorry but Yes. There are ways around what you are so adamantly against without considering any alternatives. In WoW I played on a PvP server and the factions once you were neutral you could not be ganked with in the village as the local guards would kill the offender. Instead of closing the door to something that could be fun you are putting up a brick wall based off of one experience. There are sooooo many different ways it can be counteracted to provide a healthy/friendly community. Or again look at Ballista from FFXI.

Also we are asking for one zone.

PS: If you ready every single daily than I feel for you. They repeat themselves so often so out of the beast tribes you may only have what like 15 quests to read?

PSS: if you really read the lore and imersed youself into the world than you know there has always been tension between the GC factions so an open world zone would be fitting.

I do immerse myself. I know about the tensions between the GC factions and their struggles. However,

Runescape. Mining and minding my own buisness, ganked for my stuff. Unable to progress mining skills.
Archeage: Ganked during quests, ganked during transport of goods, ganked just exploring an area. Ganked waiting for friends to show up outside PVE content.
BDO: Riding between towns to check my houses and retainers, also while finishing quests, ganked outside the city by cheap PVPfarmers.

May I go on? I know so many people who bragged about blocking people from PVE content in games just to make them rage and quit. To play with people’s emotions like sadists and ruining new player’s experiences.

If SE wants open world PVP, open up a PVP server. I want no part in an open world PVP. Duty finder PVP? Love it. I do it too. Love the fairness of teams.

I've quit so many MMos because I got tired of being paranoid someone’s gonna ruin my storyline immersion.

Again open your mind. Did you look up Ballista? I assume no because you are so closed off to any prospect it's like trying to modify a brick wall.

Also again we are asking for A zone. A as in singular, one, uno, une (the reason I say this because you keep reverting that we want the entire world open PvP). You can also look up Wintergrasp if you need another concept. It can be done in a healthy manner.

I think part of the issue here is what is really being asked for; this may sound like semantics but its definitely coloring how people receive this request.

If you're asking for a PVE map like Coerthas Central Highlands to have PVP included in it or a new map adjacent to a PVE map that is PVP then people are going to be more opposed to that. With that request you're trying to bring PVP into the PVE areas of the game and thats going to cause no end of conflicts for everyone.

If you're asking for a persistent instance that is always up like maps are and is accessed through the DF or via portal in the Wolves den, then people would be more accepting of it. With that request you're asking for additional PVP options that are not intruding in the PVE areas of the game.


Unless you're building an open world PVP game from the start, mixing the two never leads to positive results. Even if you discount player preference, the skills and class balance is different for PVP than it is for PVE and if you start mixing the two then you need to decide what ruleset to follow. Do you force PVE players to use PVP skills or let PVP players use PVE skills and all of the associated problems with it? In a game built around cooperation like this one is, how do you then handle non-cooperative elements along side it?

Irrespective of my views on PVP, I don't see it ever being added to the PVE side of things.

The OP is clearly asking for a defined, separate PvP area. Likely one that would clearly notify players upon attempt to enter that they're entering a PvP area. Even the dueling circle does this. Go to the Wolves' Den, and step over the glowing outline and you'll see a notification. I'd imagine an area you'd have to zone into manually would have a pop up, not unlike when zones had instances. There would be no necessary-for-PvE content there, so no one would be missing out on any PvE content by refusing to go in.

An alternative method, unless this has changed since my time with the game, would be faction related gear a la Blade & Soul. Wear the gear, and you're consenting to the possibility of engagement. Don't want to be bothered? Don't wear it. SE could accomplish this with Status settings too.

No one is trying to transform the game into something it isn't. In fairness, I'm not even crazy about open world PvP myself (and simply because I spend a LOT of time using gpose or scouting locations for my video work), but it'd be nice if PvPers got even just a little bit more sometimes without public outcry.

For those of you who didn't play FFXI they had Ballista. It was optional PvP in potentially 3 open world zones. You had to register to participate. So you if you were level 30 going through you wouldn't get ganked by someone who was level 75. This of course if you didn't register, if you registered then you would be fair game. So it would still allow you to gpose, do quests, and explore with the freedom of not getting ganked. You could also be a spectator in the match and cheer your GC on as they try and gain control of the zone.

I am opposed to an instanced PvP because we already have similar things like that in a PvE environment which is atrocious to get into (Diadem).

There is so little activity in some of the zones especially the ARR zones.

When was the last time you visited the Isles of Umbra? or Sagoli Desert? These areas are pretty much vacant with the exception of hunts or new players and with a registration system like Ballista had it would protect sprouts.

Also in regards to skills. They need to undo the PvP skill set and bring back the PvE skill set because the PvP skill set is atrocious.

Some good ideas there, especially the one about utilizing maps that are otherwise empty, and definitely the registration system.

Unfortunately, as in the other thread, many have convinced themselves that the new PvP skillset is an improvement over the old, "bloated" system. Still, SE made a point of saying that this system could work as a foundation to build upon, so I'd like to hold them to that, and see it built up.

Thankfully SE already purged PvE as well to alleviate Bloat. My only complaint with 3.5 is hotbars were shared with gearsets for the same job. Some skills were useful and some weren't in PvP but those skills were useful in PvE.

Exactly, that's why I argue that the skill pruning and forced 9 button standard was unnecessary. But a lot of players just won't hear otherwise now :/
