So I'm thinking that Protect will have higher physical protection than magical, and Shell will be reintroduced to Red Mage with higher magical protection than physical.

This is ok with me, all classes need to have things they bring to the table that others don't.

shell tied into mag def, there is no mag defense. This is a basic syllogism you can tie in the rest. A=B B=C therefore A=C The reason they added an overwrite is due to the shell items people have from GCs

Yoshida sure does have a delusional Idea of what makes a game "More Final Fantasy like"..

Final Fantasy XIV Developers:

Could you please explain this to us? Why was this decision made? How does this make the game better. Is there now no more Shell?

Protect and Shell is a tried tested and true sytem of buffs that players are comfortable with and have been for a very long time. It also contributes to the Final Fantasy "feeling". Why mess with this system?

If the case is in fact a new spell that is a combination of Shell and Protect can you please inform us of this.

If you care about the players you will give us a response.

Protect is protect... until you hit lvl 24 as a CNJ then it gets Shell added to it...

6 Action Protect Increases the defense of all party members within range of the target. Cast Time: 3sec. / Recast Time: 30sec. / Duration: 300sec.

24 Trait Enhanced Protect Increases magic defense gained from Protect.

I take as the items that can give you shell will not stack with protect and has nothing to do with the spell right now. That is how I see it anyways... many others see it some other way but that is how these things go...
