probably not. Enochian was overly punishing if it dropped per one of the statements made by SE. Hence it's being changed. As a summoner dreadwrym isn't hard to use at all imo and is not the same type of mechanic. Dreadwyrm gives a sustained damage class a burst phase where as enochian is required to simply use the black mages normal tools. Btw, I loved the summoner pre heavensward and the dreadwyrm mechanic made me love it even more.

I don't know how well that would work on BotD since its main mechanic is Geirskogul balance. And Geirskogul...well...spends 10s of your BotD so if you have infinite it just becomes a 10 second ogcd.

That would be kind of monstrous.

Ok I'm a little confused. How does making does combining shawdowskin and rampart decrease the button bloat? It will still be one skill that will be on the hotbar, it doesn't remove anything.

Because DRK could then cross-class Rampart from PLD, giving them an extra button.

But that means you're losing a cross-class skill, because it would have to replace one you're already using. For example I would need to remove awareness, blood bath or something else to use Rampart. It's not really fixing the button bloat only giving you less options. Now if they combined two actions that did different things, it would solve the problem. For example combine Awareness with the 20% defensive cool down. This frees up the button awareness was using allowing me to equip rampart from cross class and frees up the button shadowskin was using. I hope that made sense. Sorry I'm so confused.

It's possible that the cross-role abilities won't be limited in the same way cross-class are. Yoshi P makes it sound distinctly like the system is being put in place specifically so players have access to everything they need from every role, so I don't think they'll do something like say "You can only pick 5 abilities from this pool", *especially* when essential cooldowns like Rampart/Shadowskin are being borked for this.

It doesn't. You can potentially take one fewer low-value "cross-class" and instead take the highly useful Rampart, and whatever (probably no more powerful than those cross-class skills) new native skill replaces Shadowskin, in place of the better aesthetically matched Shadowskin. This new skill and your Shadow Wall, Dark Dance, Dark Mind, etc., will then be nerfed to compensate.

Not an extra button — an extra native skill, at the cost of a cross-class. An exchange. Button count, and therefore bloat, goes unchanged. The only possible difference is the difference in power between the new native skill and the cross-class it replaces, unless the powers are relatively equal but the native skill nonetheless far more enjoyable and better fitting for the DRK.

An increase of power over gameplay or aesthetics will only last as long as it takes to be rebalanced, and then you're simply left with diminished gameplay and aesthetics, along with an angered community.

What changes can they honestly make though? This game is heavily focused on pure damage. Unless they design fights where you're severely punished for lacking the burst healing of a White Mage, it won't matter what they do. Frankly speaking, I want them to do precisely that. There should be a significant trade off for buffing your damage to the extent Astro does. Right now, there is literally no drawback to bring one but a massive DPS loss if you omit them. Although all still speculative, their refusal to account for Balance and the debuff issues is disconcerting. They seem more concerned with viability than acceptability. Yes, White Mage and Paladin can clear Savage but I wish you well attempting to find raid groups willing to take them. This tier saw White Mage drop a staggering 50% due to the potency of Astro. That is only going to increase if their philosophy is only viability.

I think "requires more skill to play but has a higher payoff" is a paradigm this game is desperately lacking. You could tell the developers TRIED this setup with 3.0 Astrologian, but also note that this was before many of the QoL buffs that cards have received since then too. In 3.0, Spire/Ewer were hot garbage, Balance was always good but Spread had a stupidly long cooldown and Shuffle could let you draw chain Spears back-to-back if you were unlucky. I think with the card system we have now, a meta shift to AST's old healing potencies might not be so outrageous - if you want that sweet deeps, you'd better be prepared to execute mechanics perfectly and have your SCH actually help heal a little to get it. Obviously, healing potencies would have to see a change across the board for this to be a likely outcome, but even a SCH's personal DPS can't match up to the combined might of AOE Balance. If Balance isn't going to be addressed specifically, then it should at least be significantly riskier to bring an Astrologian for raid content.

Something like that. I've long thought that Paladin and White Mage SHOULD be the powerful, easier jobs that help groups who aren't playing at the upper echelons of skill. That content should be designed around a PLD, WHM, and MNK's unique party defensive and recovery utility making fights significantly EASIER, but not required. The ideal end result? Firsters and speed-clearers will still push the ideal DPS comps, but more casual or mistake-prone groups can use those classes with superior defenses and recovery to help bounce back from errors made during progression.
