Severs seperated by language. Discussion.

Cross-nation servers (or whatever they are called) offer many benefits and I don't want to see restricted EU, JP or NA only servers introduced.

Players are on at all times of the day- when I get home in the evening and logon, even if JP and EU people are going to bed then NA players are coming online (I'm GMT). If I was on an EU only server and wanted to party late at the weekend then it would be harder to find people online to do that with.

Economy- people from around the world buy at different times of the day; i.e. if I go to bed with a bazaar up then there is a chance that a JP player might buy something from it. If I was on an EU only server then most people would be in bed the same time as me and the likelyhood of me selling bazaar items would reduce.

Ok, so maybe not the best examples but I'm sure many of you know what I mean.

Besides, I like talking to people around the world and I have had good times doing events in Linkshells with people in Japan, America, Germany, Holland as well as the UK both in FFXI and FFXIV. I don't see the need to change it :)

Personally I think Auto translate needs to be reworked, in today's day in age there is not a reason that the text cannot be instantly translated to any language and displayed on the client in your native language, so that the culture differences are removed from the game and a player is just a player. Some of the regional slang will not come across as totally correct but that is easily overlooked.

I'm pretty much opposed to any and all things that have the potential to promote xenophobia(it pisses me off when people say "gringo" here, and I'm Puertorican ffs), so naturally I'm against region-separated servers.

Think of it as an opportunity to learn stuff, meet people, and become multi-lingual, which is a plus in any situation, especially the job market.

I do enjoy watching the multilanguages going through my general chat even if i dont understand a word of what they are saying. i enjoy playing with the Japanese players because they often are good players despite the communication barrier. Maybe I should learn some basic Japanese terminology. Yes, I agree that the auto-translator needs to have more terms put in.

I do not blame the Japanese for their opinions on the RMTs because I am in total agreement. In XI, the RMT tells were often in broken English. It got annoying real quick when XI had free trials. I hope XIV doesnt have that fate for a while..

So, please dont create specific language servers because that will limit the population. I would like to continue to play with friendly japanese players and English players, may they be friendly or horrid.

it isnt as easy as you think
yes it would be nice, but if it was so easy to do every game would already be using this

it is easy i can goto Google and do it in 3 seconds, there were programs for FFXI that did it for you as well it is easy and it can be done just the developers may not want to do it due to resources or what not.

but google doing it, and in in game feature to do something are still 2 totaly different things
and if its so easy my question still stands why has no other game done it yet either?

That being said, you have to be windowed to use google or other translation programs. Some people would like to play full screen (possibly due to having multi-GPU setup). It would be nice if they implemented something to the game to work with translation websites or software.

Translating Japanese into English by computer is not as easy as you think. There are very few Japanese words that you can take and say "This means This in English. " You need a human to adjust the language differences.

I'm not saying it can't be done someday, but it's not available just yet. Google seems to be the best at it so far, but even it is not perfect.

Edit: If you want to see what I mean, try pasting what I just said into the translator, translate it to Japanese, then back to English.
