Gotta ask, where are we on any ideas for dealing with the undercutting itself? Would it be fair to force incremental cutting, so that the 99980 under 100000 isn't a thing, or would that just worsen the situation? Should equal-cost listings be shown in first-up-first-seen order? So on and so forth.

Frankly, I prefer those 1-100 undercutters to people who undercut by massive amounts and crash the whole market. I've had some people undercut me by upwards of 500k and higher. So if they ever implemented a means of limiting how much you can undercut by, I'd rather it be something like increments of 100, 500 or 1000. Granted, if they did, there would need to be some way to prevent the silly 999,999,999 items. Annoying as it is, I think it's best to leave the market as is.

Black Desert also limits how high you can set the price, meaning crafters can't charge people 2-3x the price of the material cost... you'll end up barely making any money from crafting, to the point its for your own gain really. A free market is good, if the value of the item crashes then it was never worth as much as it had been and if the other person is selling an item that costs 100k+ to make for 50k, buy it and resell. As you said, best to keep it as it is.

Lost the last half of your post there, so I'll edit as needed on your edit.

I was thinking that the undercutting intervals would be based on the standard deviation already present, historically where the more recent (including of course current) listings have more impact based on the severity of deviation increase (amount of trend change), so that the overall price of the item is already a consideration in picking out the intervals. When you click to have your retainer sell an item on the marketboard, it defaults to the current sales listing page for the item, with your tentative listing placed in a relative 'average' position, from which point you can move it up or down, set, and then shift up or down in intervals to finalize the price, or set the price directly and it will show what it will be rounded to.

I'm not particularly in one camp or the other, though leaning towards the whole 'staying out of it' side. I'd just seen numerous complaints on the matter, yet no threads with suggested solutions on the subject.

If anything, I imagine the best solution would to be to introduce NPCs into the economy as both buyers and sellers, adding to and slightly standardizing both supply and demand.

1) 20 raid turns per tier (instead of 4) with a new level of difficulty (aka Mythic, harder than Savage).
2) Item lv. / stats revamp, raiders gear 40-50 item lv. above the rest (aka Mythic).
3) Replace Soken for good (keep him for primal fights) and go back to Uematsu and Mizuta.

In a nutshell, do serious stuff instead of glamour and annoying casual contents.

Bonus request: stop reading Balmung erp/glamour questions at fan fest, I am proud of Yoshi-P calling out FFT and Matsuno a week ago, keep following team 4 and give Akihiko Yoshida (FFT, FFTA, FFXII, FFXIV 1.0, Bravely Default) a job where possible, best designer in Square-Enix (freelancer now, though) together with Minaba.

This works in theory. Unfortunately, you'll more often see people start undercutting that new listing even if it were significantly lower than the one before it. A good example is the new crafted gear. I have seen someone undercut by 500k+ and someone then undercut them instead of grabbing it and just continuing the smaller drops. Maybe it's a Balmung thing, but yeah. Still, much as it annoys me, BDO's system wouldn't work for that exact reason. Just one of those things you deal with. The crafting equivalent for DF. :p

Im now at a loss, im being told that glamour was true end game, now i am hearing that undercutting is the real deal. dveryone hatesu ndercutters but they aksi undwecut themselves. If you actually looked at vendor + the items resale value upon purchages, and this npcs, you'll easilly see that undercutting is probably the only thing that keeps the mb alive

I figure it's more of an NA server issue, Japanese datacentres tend to price items far cheaper than on NA so undercutting isn't as rampant. Undercut an item by 500k and you'll be owing money in most cases, but I guess that means a more stable economy. Prices still gradually lower if supply starts outweighing demand heavily or items are made easier to craft overtime but that's only natural, there are exceptions when a player lists an item for 10m+ and someone sells it for a more reasonable price though. You'll make less gil, but with everything being cheaper it balances out.

As someone who only makes their gil from selling materia and the occasional oppurttines (Diadem, Aquapolis, mob farming at the start of the expansion, etc) I much prefer the Japanese pricing.

Well FFXIV lacks of depth and proper rewards since ARR (apart from hardcore contents) which is the biggest issue atm; I am curious about the new battle system which I hope is not 'easier' than the actual one but just more user friendly when it comes to HUD like they said (DoTs, ect.)
