That's true, but in the sense that pets stick w/ you and are not just a "summon 1hit" type thing, well only X and to some degree(but not really) XIII.

I do get where your going w/ that, traditionally in FF drg was a job that used dragon-like abilities in order to kill dragons, and for what it's worth I much prefered bst and pup to drg as jobs that had pets that "fit" but change isn't all bad. Drg w/ a pet doesn't have to suck and unless your a super hardcore RP'er basing his whole deal on past FF's ...
Wait every FF is a totally different game, no 2 take place in the same "world" or share stories or people(cept Cid Biggs and Wedge) why does this have to be the same as all the past games? And why can't I "morph" into an esper, Terra could do it?

Please do not point out X-2 or XIII-2 I'm well aware of them and much like FF Mystic Quest I've tried very hard to repress those memories, no not really, XIII-2 was a better game than XIII overall.

End of the day I really just want a pet job back and I can't see any "real" good reason to not give drg a wyvern again.

Firsst of all, if you just wanted pet, BST or other class/job that are coming is going to fill that role. Leave DRG ALONE!

I personally would rather see it implemented in a different manner if possible. Not necessarily as a pet, but perhaps a mount or some stylized job ability. Either way, I like the idea of Dragoon being different than from FFXI.. but a Wyvern implemented in a unique manner wouldn't degrade the job if it's set apart from its balance.

Wow I never expected soo many to get so emotionally attached to a job. I suppose that change is "bad" after all. Check my other posts though and see if there isn't something that could maybe make us both happy. ....

well you are new to the forums hehe, the DRG pet discussion gets rather heated, there have been multiple threads about it over the last year and a half and so far the overwhelming majority has been anti-pet as for the previous statement about every FF being different you are correct but you will notice trends with all of them you mentioned biggs, wedge, and cid but also jobs/class/roles have stayed pretty close throughout the series.

I don't disagree, I haven't posted alot, not because I'm new to the forums or the game but rather because shortly after the close of beta and the failed launch I left the game and returned to XI full time, I wouldn't share thoughts/opinions about this game while I wasn't playing it, that wouldn't be fair of me at all, to just spew crap based on what the last update notes said is not something I'd do. Since I have returned to the game full-time, and don't see myself leaving again for a fairly long time (abyssea/dyna reform/uncapped CoP...) FFXI was ruined for me.

As for the fairly similar jobs/classes/races and what have you, your right they do stay mostly the same, a little better or worse w/ each game that incorporates them, but always evolving. I think that in the name of always slightly different, slightly better, slightly evolved, the argument may still be "no pet" but then in the name of changing it some "what"? Or should we just pull Kain/Cecil/Golbez around and get back to the "roots"?

This is going to sound possibly nerdish;

But I want my Dragon to come from within me, IE like a roaring dragon spirit rushing from my body as I strike my foes down (lol) or, I would like the ability to temporarily summon a full fledged dragon, depending on my highest stat (PIE, STR etc) it would do something to all enemies or all allies on the battle field.

Oh and I want a dragon soul ability that adds survivability, maybe some kind of shield or regen? Who knows.

That would actually go along pretty well with the storyline for DRG in this, seeing as it's all about "the dragon within", and how DRGs are connected to the so deeply, and it's only Nidhogg(and other evil tainted dragons) that we're really looking to destroy, not the whole of the race. Wait that's how DRG was laid out in XI, and why it had a wyvern too no? We are tied to dragonkind, not simply destroyers of dragons?

This was not an argument for/against pets, just on abservation, please don't kill me for it.

Personally I think having a Wyvern following me around would be annoying and just get in the way like in XI. Also if LNC/DRG was given a wyvern. The stats of the LNC/DRG would have to be lowered to balance the fact we would have a pet helping us.

Instead of having a full time pet. I would like to see maybe an ability where it would summon a wyvern to do a breath attack then simply fly away again. That way we don't have scaled down stats and don't suffer from an annoying wyvern flying around us.
