I guess the biggest problem is, if finding an American jerk, he's a jerk. When you run across say a French jerk, he's French.

What I don't undestand in any game is the necesity of being rude. What you win being rude? That won't make players better or something, but most of the rude players I knew they really think they are better and are entitled to despise others. Japanese players are more respectful cause culture, but is not a thing on western side whre every stupid thing can be use to harass others. Even on forums I read people menosreciating and even asking devs for restrictive features.
I will agree that FFXIV community is better than other MMO, but still is far a away from being nice.
It makes some people feel superior, strong and important. They fell so low that they have to insult others to feel better. Same goes to the people who trying to make sure to let others know that they are using a dps meter with every chance. Insulting and constantly complaining. I do duties only with my friend so we can kick such people when they push it too far.
The good news is that I met way fewer jerks in this game than other online games I played. The situation here is far better. And a friendly advise to people who play an MMORPG for their first time is never take personally what others say online. I mean never. Ignore them and keep playing.
No you're wrong, the languages we can see on your screen show the languages chosen by each gamer for their character (where you write sidenotes, your online statut, etc.)
It's really different from the languages chosen in DF :)
Edit : Thanks to have post the screen of the conversation, it clearly shows a misunderstanding of what they said, they didin't insult. They were talking about you, not really nicely nor politely, but no insults at all.
And that's EXACTLY what I thought they were for. I ticked French and English (with the latter my client language as it is more convenient to play in English on a NA data center) on my search profile, but tick everything when I use the DF. LOL
Also, I'm pretty sure that when you look at the party menu on your members, it shows what you ticked in your search profile, not what you ticked in the DF.
I agree w/ Fyce. The OP is at fault here. "You know, maybe stop dancing and start healing," is going to be treated as a hostile remark! Going on and further insulting them by stating they didn't have the "decent to speak english" is just asinine. He'd be kicked no matter what the language. My advice to the tank, just keep quiet! Keep it up and someone will report you!
The OP is says he German is, so should we assume that all Germans are as rude as he is? Of course not because most Germans are friendly. Just like most French, Japanese, and English players are. Don't judge a person by their nationality, race or ethnicity.
I mean, if the healer is dancing instead of healing what are you supposed to do? Just go pull again?
That behavior in and of itself is already openly hostile and I don't see how OP is at fault.
...Someone will report him for asking the healer to heal instead of dancing?Quote:

...What? Do we really have two separate places for language settings? That seems needlessly convoluted.
I agree it looks hostile, but it was mentioned a couple pages back by someone who knows French that the healer apologized. Also, I think the OP said something about having checked off German as well, in which case if the French had selected only F and G, then it would be wrong of the OP to expect them to speak in English. He maybe should have asked them if they could speak either english or German and not taken for granted that they knew English and things might have gone smoother.
