It won't last as long as FFXI for a myriad of reasons, almost all of which a) have absolutely nothing to do with how Yoshi-P is running the game and b) are completely out the control of SE because they're related to the genre as a whole, rather than any specific game.

Here is the question. How do you take something that was considered a bad grind, or not favored content in general, and make it good? Ideas are given by you all, but you don't ever go into detail on how it works in the context of FFXIV. SE would have to tear down foundations, ideals, and greatly alter things to make FFXI players happy. At that point it is called destructive criticism and developers will almost never listen to that. FFXI and FFXIV: ARR are two completely different games with different ideals with a Final Fantasy logo slapped on it.

FFXI may be different, but its still there and still running. You can go there if you need your cravings. I went there recently myself to check on it and played the new content. I quickly started remembering why I quit to begin with. Too much is required out of me in a given day to be a relevant player in that game. It is truly held together by veterans.

Copying WoW's UI is fine, it makes the game easier to get into. Cloning WoW in its entirety though isn't. If I wanted WoW I would go and play WoW.

In addition, I agree while FFXI was not the most successful game** that doesn't mean it didn't have any good ideas worth reproducing.

To be honest, I don't really like looooooong term goals anymore, I had my fill with legendary weapons on Guild Wars 2 and Ragnarok Online. I'll admit that it's nice to have something to look forward, but I prefer if it's something that doesn't require 6 months of grinding to complete.

Right now my only "long term goal" in this game is to finally get the Hive weapon that I want, which will take me some time by the looks of it.

Yeah we need some long term goals. I find it funny how people say if you want a game like FFXI go back to it, because this is a brand new game... Except it took all the character designs from FFXI, and has taken everything from it except for the grind, and the sheer number of Linkshell (Free company) events.

I swear if this game had dynamis, and nyzul isle, it would be better. Not because that's what made FFXI better, but for the fact that we will have some side ways options for legendary gear, or something that can always be upgradable to the people who take the time to tackle harder more time consuming content.

FFXIV 1.xx team used the same races and similar designs to enemies, not the 2.0 team. At most they have used certain monster designs which they have openly admitted was for nostalgia. Likely lower cost to HD render them and bring them over, but still.

Dynamis is basically a raid that requires killing a ton of mobs till you get what you want drops. Little to no strategy involved. Only Dynamis Lord was difficult and even then the main strategy was to zerg it before it wiped the group. Then out of 64 people, one person gets the Defending Ring, if it actually ever dropped.

I am open to Nyzul Isle like climbing dungeon if designed well. Randomized puzzles per floor.

As a legacy character from the beginning of 1.0 - I agree with the OP.
