DRAGON MOUNTS

HEY Alaltus, I like the idea of hidden floaty sky islands. What if Square-Enix brought back the World-Map like in FF1-9. You would only enter that map while riding a dragon or on an Airship. It would be similar in many ways to flying the Ragnarok in FF8.

Nice idea, nostalgia wise it would be good though picturing it in my head i imagine that the controls may end up a bit different and your transportation may feel slower as the map you would be traversing is much larger than a classic ff title. That and they would need to keep the balance between different forms of transportation so the dragon may not be able to just land anywhere you wish it to. If they made it so that many users could use it at once without all of them needing to be displayed it could work quite well since that would pretty much eliminate sky clutter. You wont be able to see all the dragons from down below(besides maybe some programmed ones) and up above you only see yourself and perhaps your own pt/ls. Then areas like roaming sky pirates or floaty sky islands would be places you zone into through the world map either being their own zone or instanced area.

I think i know how it could work.
1 the World Map would be scaled down to make transportation quicker
2 all the areas that you could land in are in color
3 everywhere you can't land is black and white
4 when you decide to land, all you have to do is fly down
5 if you land in a colored area, a cut-scene would be shown of you descending and POOF you've landed
Am i forgetting anything?

6 when you land, you don't land in that exact spot. You land at the nearest landing marker.

On making dragon transportation quicker what comes to mind is to not allow dragons to land in cities or anywhere too close to them. Perhaps so you dont frighten the common folk. That way its a choice of a slightly longer trip by City to city airship for which you can if you want afk or a faster trip through a dragon which you cant be afk to make. That way airships are not made redundant. On the other point of greying out areas you cant land on the alternative would be to create landmarks or symbols on the map/mini map that indicate an area where you can land.

Basically what i was thinking was that if you landed anywhere in a field, You would land at the Landmark. The Landmark would still be on the map, You just wouldn't have to aim for a tiny point on the map. But, The Landmarks or Symbols that you suggested would work fine.

truly ridiculous. if they make it, i hope it requires a great amount of effort to achieve. forget cheapening ff, this is a greater insults to dragons... riding them around as if they are some cheap means of transport like a Ford Escort.

Hey Overkill, the Ford Escort was a shit hot rally car back in it's day and probably wasn't that cheap. On topic, I'm all for new mount's and I want the worm's from dune (Shai-Hulud).

dragon mounts... its been done, and done again... give me magitek.

At least thats only really been done once, and its FF specific.

I just googled Magitek to find out what people are going on about and what a disappointment, It's a metal horsebird.
