You only get ingame items if you reach the veteran ranks, those happens based on how long you subscribed.
The only other in game items you can't get is the store ones.

Heres a question. I know the 60 day time card does not credit an account that is legacy for its reduced monthly fee. How about the reverse? If someone has a standard, non-legacy account but has hired 2 extra retainers, will they be getting a discount? How close does the charge for the 60 day time card match with the actual cost of a standard account fee for 60 days according to the mog station?

PayPal can be used in Japan with funding sources Visa, MC, AMEX, JCB, and Discover. There is currently not a means to use a Japanese bank as a funding source. They can receive funds from a very large amount of payment types and withdraw to a local or US bank.
When I pre-ordered Type 0, the shopping cart service they used has PayPal as an option. It was setup with Express Checkout and created a billing agreement through PayPal to charge me when they actually shipped the product for release this Spring. The checkout is much better than it was when they had Digital River /puke
This is actually changing since processors are now charging extra fees when auths are not captured or voided. The industry is changing to $0 auths which only verify basic information like billing address and CVV. This is still facing a similar issue though with credit card issuers declining $0 auths. It may change in the near future though since this is the way payments are trending.
The thing is, the people who have contacted their banks because SE's support team says the error's 401, 601, etc mean your bank declined the transaction, get the same answer from their banks. They don't even see an attempt made to authorize a charge. Which is what my bank also told me. Meaning that for whatever reason Global Collect's system is just declining the card before attempting authorization and once it declines it gets blocked for 24 hours or more.
Once again, can we have a status update on paypal or new payment methods please SE?
I've updated my op to include the technical support forum stickied thread regarding 401,601 payment errors, and the original notice of Playspan/UGTC termination on the Lodestone.
Paypal is an option now, i just checked the account site, when adding Crysta, you can use paypal
