why do this, when you have the str that do melee damage? i don't see the point... seriously.

i do play monk and dragoon and i don't see the trouble to have a third class on the same stats. more important, monk and dragoon often have them specific loot, in T1-T5, both class had specific loot, BLM and SMN was already competing each other for get a loot, WAR and PLD was competing too, SCH and WHM was doing the same. only DRG, MNK and BRD wasn't competing.

We can speculate for days, but the simple fact is that we don't know what Ninja will be based off of. If they are to keep the current stats as is they could do one of two things: Make ninjas based off strength, which would be the logical thing assuming no other changes to the fundamental way stats work are made, OR make ninjas based off dex and modify the tooltip for dexterity to reflect that it no longer only affects ranged physical damage.

They could also add agility to the game and have Ninja based off that. And for that matter, in many many games I've played dexterity and agility are not the same thing. Dexterity is typically used for an accuracy-type stat(ranged damage or just straight up solely for your hit chance) and agility is typically used as a nimble-type stat(evasion and/or agile melee dps scaling).

Given all of this, I believe that they will do one of two things:

-Have Ninja scale with strength

Depending on how many classes they would like to add, this could or could not be likely. If they want to continue to add many classes and have the diversity that XI had, they won't do this if they have the foresight in my opinion.

-Introduce agility and have them scale with that

If they want to eventually have many classes/jobs, I think it would be in their best interest to add agility now instead of wishing they had done it later on in development. Right now we have four main stats that DPS could potentially scale from(assuming Mind can be used as a DPS stat for a class at some point, otherwise we have three). Throwing every single type of melee class into strength seems undesirable.

Why not just have them scale with dex? Well, dexterity is already established as the ranged dps stat. They could, as I said earlier, just modify the tooltip for dex and give them dex gear then be done with it. That'd be fine and all, except for the fact that we know there is going to be a gun class. Guns are ranged. They'll likely scale with dexterity. Introducing two jobs that scale with dexterity at the same time seems highly unlikely and would require reassigning dexterity's purpose as an attribute.

I see a lot of posts suggesting that the gun class/job will be a job that stems from the Rogue class. Aside from the whole "two (potentially) dex jobs at the same time" thing (and in this case they WOULD be dex because of the ranged thing), I feel this is unlikely because Rogues use daggers and no other class/job combo in the game currently switches weapons when making that transition from class to job. Could this change in the future? Yeah, but it seems odd to do in this instance.

If it were me, I'd add agility and be done with it. Even though Monk kinda seems like it should have been an agility class, it also can be seen as a bit of a gray area.

Anyway... again, the length of this thread is pretty pointless considering we don't know enough yet. People are at eachother's throats over something we don't know enough about. We just have to wait and see.

By the looks of the animation, and cosidering the ninjitsu skills.

NIN could easily be a INT melee DPS. As it were a spellsword class. But that will make no sense for RGE, wonder from what main stat they will pull damage. And they are doing slashing damage, thats almost certain. Which is going to be fun considering the warrior buff towards slashing damage.

The already restricted place of melee DPS on high end content will be now a fight to death lol.

thats another thing i am concerned about,to me Ninja may work similar to Ifrit egi,as skills from Rogue will mostly be slashing type(not sure about blunt tho),while Ninja “spells” are magical,plus that thunder reverse stab skill could also be of piercing type

It would be funny if ninja gave a buff ala mnk and drg. Something like 5-10% magic dps buff.

If ninja is indeed based similarly to Monks or Dragoons in terms of stats or output, I still do not think that that is enough alone to promote any kind of undue competition. If people are out playing their ninjas, then they are not playing on their monks or dragoons. It would take a significant shift in active population to shift this balance. In fact, the likelihood is for the first couple months it will be ninja overkill - ninjas competing with ninjas. As it stands the Duty Finder functions by role not class, so once you are actually in the duty you're still competing potentially with the same number of players regardless what DoW dps role you happen to be playing at the time.

I think they're talking about the melee spot(s) in end-game raiding team. Noone cares that much about Duty Finder stuffs to make a thread about it. :P With Coil 1, especially turn 2 and 4, the mechanics encourage people to bring 1 melee. With Coil 2, the mechanics make having 2 melees a lot easier and thus the problem was reduced. It's going to be hard balancing between 10 DPS jobs or more as the game go on lol.

No you don't. You still have to compete against 3 (or less) other dpsers in 8man content and 1 (or none) other dpser in 4man content. An extra class doesn't change a thing when party make-up doesn't change.

There will be no difference in getting gear now and when ninja is released, besides a larger loot table meaning less chance of a certain loot dropping.

The inevitable consequence of new classes lol, be that from patched in content or from actual expansions - it really does not matter. Its just one of those things we have to deal with.

Let's just keep all the classes as they are forever ... said no-one ever.
