They landed easy in XI, you just needed to be skill capped
Which brings me back in the day when I would lvl throwing with pebbles and kill giants with them xD

most melee jobs had C-D, if that, rating for throwing/ranged weapons. No, they did not land very well on anything worth fighting. Anyways, you don't need to cap any skill in this to be good with ranged weapons on any melee job. Every class from Gladiator to Pugilist can equip ranged weapons from the get go and have very good accuracy with them.
I was just commenting to the person who said ARC shouldn't get a melee attack because melee don't have ranged attack, when in fact, they all do.
yes please give archers a weapon that fits. archer is like ranger in 11 and they used daggers.
you want a good excuse, here is a good excuse:
Archer is the ONLY class that is dependant on a limited amount of ammunition, once it runs out, you are down to a crappy stone throw that will maybe critical for 3 dmg. It is also one of the few classes where your damage and accuracy is affected by positioning. Auto Attack would burn through your ammunition at a fast pace, and would leave you no time to re-position if needed. Also, AA would cancel out the bind status caused by Shadowbind and close shot, meaning that the class would lose it's ability to solo.
There, THREE good reasons why ranged attacks should never be AA, don't like it, stick with your pointy stick thing. As for the unlimited quivers argument, FFXI had the same system, and I have yet to hear people whine about how it was unfair for rng to be one of the best dds and have a dependancy on ammunition to balance out that capability. Again, you don't like it, don't play it.
How to stand back when monster follows you during solo lol.
Can just give ARC a different dagger style. Has anybody noticed that GLA only uses daggers and not a kris, stiletto, knife, butcher's knife, kukri, etc.?? There are several types of daggers. I find it impossible for SE to not pick one and just design it to go with a bow/off-hand slot.
I think you meant powerful class with a tradeoff of being a gil sink to balance it out...
Honestly, I had thought that before the game came out, that arc would have had a basic melee with a knife or dagger, on the reasoning that ranger had decent melee to fall back on, and also since your typical medieval archer often carried one for finishing off the wounded. (Sorry, they didn't headshoot thier victims at point-blank range like in LotR.)
While we're on the subject of abilities, I know people whine about DoW having the ability to select spells, but if you ever played FFIII, you would know that archer in that game had access to basic white magic, so again, it's not unreasonable, especially since you can't AoE them.
Kind of got off track...
Anyway I think that Archer should be given the option to equip a subweapon such as a hunting knife. Even if we never use it in the field, they could give accuracy or dex bonuses. (like Hawker's knives/Trailer's Kukri)
