And yet WoW continues to make money. Obviously something is working for them, or we wouldn't have all these copycat MMOs popping out everywhere lol. :)

I don't think anyone wants to be a hardcore player.
A lot of whining for hardcore MMORPGs is just whining for massive time sinks everywhere, rather than any increase in difficulty. And I get that some people want to feel special for wasting more time on a game than others, but you get a much larger audience catering to all the people with an actual life. I mean, it doesn't make for the most interesting kind of game, but a lot of the time sinks people lust after aren't actually that much more interesting either, they just have the psychological effect of feeling more rewarding to those with the time to waste on them. If you don't have the time to waste on massive time sinks, it's a complete turn off
I do want to see more MMO sandbox games, but a good sandbox MMO is all players and action. There's no place for a plot and scripted quests, it's all players shaping the environment and forming their own legacy
Accessibility =/= Fun
Just remember that when comparing any MMO to WoW....I personally hate WoW for the fact they spent the last 10 years destroying a unique genre. Yes they got some things right (removing stupid death penalties for one and pointless "re-grinds" like losing XP)
but they just replaced it with a merry-go-round of loot rewards. It was fun for a while, but why bother keeping a green when it was quickly replaced by a blue which was quickly replaced by a purple which was quickly replaced by next patch in a month or two.
MMO's need to remain vigilante to keep endgame a forethought in the grand scheme of things, not continue to grind out levels to hit max cap as soon as possible. They should have made it tougher to hit, say, level 30 and beyond but make your character a worthy and fun mechanic to continue playing so that your carrot on a stick is always the next level but you don't hit it too fast. I personally don't mind grinding out levels if my character doesn't feel completely useless during the grind to the content I am in.
the MMORPG genre hasn't been for the hardcore since WoW introduced the genre to "casual gamers" that wanted to play that game because it was gaining popularity, Companies then tried to gain the same success ever since trying to appeal to the casual playerbase
it's BS, and it won't change anytime soon
Hardcore players make up less then 1% of a player base. I use to be hardcore then I got married and graduated and now work full time while raising 2 kids. Time like everything else changes a person and interest. Sadly, today's hardcore crowd are snide, rude and are imposable to please. Every game no matter what you play the hardcore crowd will always whine about challenge and accessibility.
It's a special snowflake syndrome. Nothing more, nothing less. Hardcore may be the loudest but the cold hard truth is you are the minority.
It sounds like you feel you're a victim and that people are out to ruin your games. They're not. They just want to play the game that looks fun. When people whine on the internet about something being too hard or easy, they're going to get replies from people who find their whining pathetic. If games are too easy, play competitive games against other players or try to set record times or whatever fancy challenge you want to set yourself. People love watching major league gaming tournaments and speedruns.
Stop asking for difficulty or time sinks to be handed to you, go out and make your own challenges and show off the fact that you achieved them.
I see in this topic and the other one with the same content. A lot of dedicated players trying to be and act like hardcores. Asking for Time sinks, asking for open world Bosses, asking for more challenges.
Are you sure, you are a hardcore and Not just a dedicated player?
If Yoshi-P s announce tomorow. We are releasing in the next update a Relic weapon upgrade, but wait.... you will need 30 000 Tomes for this upgrade, you will be ready for that challenge ?
If Yoshi-P Create tomorow a Dungeon for 24 man 30 mins limit. Having the Following bosses. Ifrit, Titan, Garuda, Leviathan and Bahamut "EX" Versions. You will have to kill them one after another, the bosses in this dungeon wlil have x3 more Hp and the recommended ILV is 90, are you SURE??
When the Party Finder comment say "ILV90 Only and players with massive exp in those battles as well". You can go Now right?
Even if i love the Challenges, i hate with passion the time sinks, the grinds carnavals and wait 3 hours for put a group togheter for my next Raid.
My suggestion is ask yourself... if you are a "HARDCORE PLAYER", Before ASK for Hardcore challenges..
