And many on a Legacy server (but not all) could outright buy a small plot of land on your server by themselves (not for personal use , but FC use of course). But you know what...that should be okay. Why? Because we have already been saving for a house for over 2 years. Because as we were saving in 1.0, we lost 90% of our savings when ARR launched. You, and everyone on your server has only been saving for at most, since August. So yeah... it SHOULD be harder for new players to jump into content 1.0 players have been saving literally for years for. Instead, the opposite has happened, I have to play more than double what you have to pay for the SAME THING. (those on the Japanese Legacy servers have to pay more than 4 times as much as you for their 'starter plot')

This doesn't mean our savings should naturally buy us a 'large home on a prime lot' but really, who cares even if it did? If nothing about the system changed other than everyone on every server had the same prices (and if that meant the prices ranged from 10mil (cheapest home at it's starting price)-500mil for the most expensive home (at starting price) Others, who were willing to wait for 3 months for the 'deals' would be able to get those homes for 50% less than the 'rich'/'need it now!' people paid. So it'd still make a fair share of the gil disappear from the servers... and not punish 1.0 ers for saving for 2 years+ or others just simply for the server they initially decided to be on.

Boycott them for 90 days and they'll be cheaper. :P

Except this is literally the last thing that should be hard to get.

Housing should be low barrier to entry, high barrier to excel.

Small house and land, cheap as dirt, with an exponential increase to the best of the best. Hard to excel: Difficult to get special decorations, walls, building types and materials.

BUT THE LAND AND A BASIC SMALL HOUSE SHOULD NOT BE HARD TO GET

if you look on lodestone there are only 29 free companies total on our server with more then 100 members out of 997 free companies on our server.... out of all those there are only 3 of us who are over 500 members even if everyone was currently active and was around level 50 and was able to donate 100k each that still would be less then half for a large plot in the best spot

With these prices I don't think you've to try very hard to boycott it since most people can't buy the housing even if they wanted to.

I think they need to look at games with successful housing, as opposed to use Japan as a model for in game housing where you'd need to take out a 100 year loan to afford one. Although I'm not a big housing guy, it seems to me the biggest draw to housing is the decorations and the time it takes to decorate the house. That is, it seems like a lot of people buy the latest furniture/painting/whatever and then spend all their time rearranging this stuff to some perfect alignment, and then rearrange it again 3 days later when some new kind of furniture becomes available. It keeps players busy without needing anything outrageously expensive.

The largest prices are fair, to be honest. I wish they'd put another tier somewhere in the middle though, and lower the cost of the smallest house for the tiny FCs.

I was so angry about XIV housing too then I realized it's actually not very good. You can't get real creative with it. There is much better housing in free to play games. In Rift, a cheap free to play game, almost whatever you can think of you can do with housing. The sky is the limit. In XIV it looks like you can only change walls and place furniture and lawn items. It's not really innovative at all and it's pretty small. I now think they made the pricing so high because the see how terrible it is and don't want anyone to actually consider buying it.

I may sound bitter or jealous of those that can afford it, but really I'm serious. Check out the much more fun and innovative housing in this cheap free to play game where housing is accessible to everyone.

XIV housing looks like trash compared to a free to play games housing. I'll pay for XIV till I get bored of coil and primals and use ftp for housing.
