I'm like 99% sure, based on the ending, that they're setting him up to be a Beastmaster. Though they definitely could've used Arcanist/Summoner as the base and just have all his "summons" be different monsters.
Especially since it's already the second failure of the writing team. The EW patches, it was them, it was the same problems problems, and they were mentionned since 6.3. I hope a reaction, since it's SE money maker, and the company is in crisis after the 70% revenue fall. But I don't even trust them to understand the criticism. I see a them telling "You don't like Wuk Lamat, ok no Wuk Lamat", and not address the blatant writing issue.
Tbf the expansion story was probably already done at the time of the 6.x patches I think.
Other then that I agree. The MSQ is the one most important thing of this expansion and at least it seems that many people are unsatisfied. So I really hope the devs wake up now.
I would be really interested what they were thinking this time. Was it a calculated risk or a try to give inexperienced writers some learning room or just bad luck?
I personally think though, the reaction will not be „hey Wuk Lamar was to central to the plot and there were writing issues“.
Instead if a reaction happens at all it will be „hey the players don‘t like low stake stories and adventuring. Let’s go back to the old scions vs evil worldending thread plot“.
Sorry if I mumble so much in these threads here but the story, lore and worldbuilding was always a big thing for me in this game, above anything else tbh.
Yes, I'm very worried they will learn the wrong lessons from this. The primary issue is terrible writing and complacent design choices. They need to completely rethink how an expansion should go, or what this game should be in the future, going on like this is not sustainable.
But I fear they will instead try to retread Shadowbringers forever and we will be glued to the Scions until end of service...
That would be tragic, A lot of people are unsatisfied because people have MCS- Main Character Syndrome and basically if the story is not centrally revolved around them for w/e reason it is bad. To me personally i don't need this i could see out the gate in the prepatch we are not the protagonist in this story but the side character but that is not to everyones liking. Sadly i think they will go back to Scion focused story from here with every expansion being another world ending disaster we have to stop which will get old but probably at slower pace because people will feel the story is centered around them so it will make a lot happy. Do i have a problem with the story?? Honestly no it isn't terrible writing might be lil obvious in some parts where it is going but what story really isn't once you get older.
The Warrior of Light is literally on the cover of the expansion. It's not main character syndrome when you literally are the main character of the story. I don't care if the story is about sipping margaritas on a beach or collecting llama dung for random npcs, as long as they don't make my character worship some side character and sit on the sidelines cheering her on.

Truthful advertising would be Wuk shoving WoL off that cliff so she could take center stage.
On NA voice the final trial has the absolute worst voice acting cutscene I have ever heard. How can they even allow that? Whoever was in charge of this needs to be fired outright.
Honestly? I am not sure what was worse. The voiceover of the final trial or the fact I was overjoyed that finally at the end of the expansion I have some time for myself, my own safe space where I can REJOICE IN THE GLORY OF COMBAT I was so suffocated by Wuk Lamat at this point I almost was moved to tears by being able to do something on my own... and then, she appeared, again. Not leaving even one single experience for me to enjoy.
Kinda disaggree here.
Belittleing the dissatisfaction as MCS is really not in good faith.
We were not the central focus in big parts of HW and even less in Stb and yes while there was criticism for that those expansions handled it way better.
The problem is not Wuk Lamat being the central figure but that she eclipses everything. It would have already helped if not every single quest was "talk to Wuk Lamat" or gave us some time without her like the other expansions.
She actually almost never interacts with the other party members, only with us and given we are a silent protagonist that's not good.
The story would have worked if it was a standalone title or a short story in itself but not in an mmorpg.
Our character was only there so seh had a camera for the audience.
In one interview Yoshida said that the world moves as the WoL moves (I don't remember were though tbh). It would be fine to do something like DT but not in FF14 were the big part of the story is that our character is special. You just don't change that in a completly other direction.
At this point the only thing missing is Wuk Lamat somehow also getting the echo and being the 15th seat of the ancients or something like that.
That also has nothing to do with being younger or older.
I'm quit old myself but like stories like Golden Sun or Stephen Kings "Fairytale", the "Anders" books, you know simple stories.
I also like complex or deep stories like "The Helmsman". Heck I wrote my high school diploma on Goethes "Faust".
It's fine to like the story but implying those who didn't like it are stupid or too young is just evil.
And that is fine. It's great you like her and the story. Don't be discouraged to state that opinion.
I don't want to sound like a negative dandy here.
