Damn beat me to it. I'm playing through Final fantasy tactics for the first time purely because of that quote.

Oh and if anyone says that it could just be generically referring to FFT series as a whole, the other two games have significantly different lore to the first one, so that would make no sense. After doing some digging I found this which supports my claim:

This timeline theorises two relevant timelines of Ivalice (think of it like Hyrule, each incarnation separate, yet still within the same world), the FFXII one and the FFT one. What we can gather from playing the games is that the FFT timeline implies a world without Viera given that they do not feature Viera or any of the beast races, and by the dev teams comments, we can gather that this is the period of Ivalice history that the raid focuses on.

The only reason Final Fantasy Tactics doesn't have viera is because they didn't exist in Matsuno's mind. He created them many years later.
Nowhere does Matsuno ever said that viera didn't exist in FFT because they didn't mean to exist in that timeline.

This is all about creation, Matsuno is the literal god (since he creates the world and the races), and the creation of viera didn't happen until his mind came up with it in FFT advance.

As for Yoshida saying go play FFT, do you really think he's going to tell people to play FFT advance on gameboys? Do they even sell gameboys these days?

What's ironic about all this is that let's say Matsuno confirms that viera were supposed to not exist in that time period. Imagine if the reason for that is realized in FFXIV. The reason they don't exist is that they were flashed away into other worlds. And one of those worlds could be Hydaelyn.

I love the idea of a playable viera that is tall and narrow (with slimmer shoulders than an elezen) so that it really has a different silhouette instead of just being a human-with-bunny-ears type thing. Could be really really cool.

I probably wouldn't fantasia my Roe as I just love her, but I might make an alt if they were introduced!

Yoshi-P could have said either FFXII, or FFT to give players an idea. FFTA and A2's 'Grimoire World' takes place roughly around XII's time, whereas FFT takes place centuries later where Moogles are extinct and other races have disappeared (either moved out of Ivalice, or were also wiped out). I think St. Ivalice (reminder: real world of FFTA and FFTA2) also takes place many centuries after FFT. If Viera were indeed spirited away, then for them to appear in Hydaelyn would either require a rewriting of the world/lore book (because how would no one know of their existence for thousands of years? especially when some Viera are wanderers), or they all appear all at once (probably causing a cataclysm because that's a lot of people appearing suddenly. Hydaelyn is a fragile lass) for the Ivalice raid.

If he said XII his PR team would breath fire on him. If he said "go play XII" that would essentially confirm viera will be added.
Adding viera to hydaelyn woudn't cause a calamity xD you're being so dramatic.

Ivalice is mostly always in a book. This book could lead us to Ivalice but it could also lead people out of it and I could see viera being lead out of it. You talk a lot about FFT. Well, one thing about FFT is that the church is against beast tribes so maybe that drives viera to seek shelter in eorzea. See how FFT backfired? Sorry Nestama.

No. It. Wouldn't. If he said play FFXII, one group of people will go "omg Viera confirmed!" another group will go "omg {other Ivalice race} confirmed!" and others will speculate on lore and what to expect in the raid.
FFXII was not about Viera.

It's a rift tossing thousands of people (Viera, Bangaa, etc) into a world that is already dealing with its own nonsense. It kinda would cause a calamity/cataclysm/war since these people are also not natives to the land. People of Hydaelyn (or the separate nations on the planet) would fear they're being invaded by an alien force, build an alliance and then go to war. Shoot first, questions later.

No. If we're going into the book (Gran Grimoire), then our surroundings will change. The book, as seen in the FFTA opening, "alters reality." When Marche and co entered the book, those who did not hear the incantation are transformed with the world. So when we leave, everyone and everything will transform back (the races of Ivalice never came to St. Ivalice when you beat the final boss, after all). I talk a lot about FFT because that is what Yoshi-P mentioned (specifically suggesting that people play Tactics to get a feel for that games lore).

Fun fact about the Gran Grimoire. It's in Vagrant Story.

The PR point is moot by the fact that people are already taking Ivalice as confirmation anyway, and surely by saying FFT rather than FFXII that shows the PR team don't want people to anticipate things like Viera, because it isn't happening, I don't know why you took that idea as fuel for it happening.

Most likely the raid will name drop and use the same themes as tactics, there is no reason for SE to go out of their way to make new race models for the raid even if they did plan to add Viera in 5.0 (my personal opinion is that this would overshadow the raid itself and be a bad move anyway).

I still think its possible for Viera. I would love it if they came come Stormblood, but i feel like it would make a lot of sense to introduce them during the raid and slowly bring them over to our side of the globe like the Au Ra did with Heavensward. I really want it. I do, but i feel like if it happened, this would be the way they would do it. Probably not "heres an expansion, now login and change to a strange new race that the locals never heard of super suddenly before continuing on your journey"
