What's the point with that quite lackluster story in Endwalker?

I sincerely doubt that a thread on an MMO forum can be representative of the quality of anything.

If the forums have taught me one thing - one thing only: complain about everything, all the time, whether it is justified or not.

And please, enough with the "we pay" point. We already had too many of these during the difficult launch. Childish attitude.

Not sure how many have played and finished FFXII but it is fun to compare the Venat from that game vs XIV.
I can see both are very similar with their goals and both managed to get what they wanted with a different outcome\perspective.
The Occuarias are much the equivalent of the Amaurotines\Ascians and you have Venat as the one that rebelled and be considered a traitor\heretic.

Honestly, my only major disappointment was that the whole Hydaelyn/Zodiark conflict was not fleshed out more.

I was praying we'd actually get to see the two gods clash and witness the moments which would change Etheriys forever in a literal sense, not just a symbolic representation.

I would call SHB the climax and then you go to EW which is more of the resolution so you're just settling down for the end.

Kinda hard to top of SHB imho, it even made gaming news on how great it was.
I don't I seen that much overall super praise from EW. It was just overall "okay".
Not evey story is gonna hit the homerun though.

kinda feel for this too, SHB is like our "omg it so good" moment, and EW is like the "closure" of it, yeah it still end of the world thingy but its more like the story to close the chapter 1 a.k.a the eorzea saga for me.

and not helping the usual syndrome where we got high treatment with SHB so our expectation was high when we go EW. for their defense if they put EW first then end with SHB, i would probably say the same thing too but with EW and SHB switch their role.

we already got our "cake" served in gold plate, so when another "cake in gold plate" serve to us again, we dont feel that "hype" anymore.

Yeah I know a lot of people were hesitant on EW due to expectations but from many people I watched, talked etc it ended up fine still Imo as much I enjoyed ShB, it never felt like a climax considering the amount of left stuff from other expansions although each does an amazing job with finishing their main story (Nidhogg, Tsukuyomi, Warrior of Light/Elidibus) in terms of fight/how memorable.

So really I wanna see how EW is going to handle that part considering that you have a more conclusive feeling compared to rest (ala Hydaelyn/Zodiark saga)

The game puts us in that position and I actually hate it lol. My character is more of a chaotic neutral or true neutral alignment. But when the game has us doing and acting in ways I could never see my character doing, there's a problem. Which probably means I'd be better off playing DnD or something.

This post has one defined goal. If you don't want to be here to critique the story, by no means do you need to be. You're free to counter argue anyone you'd like, bearing in mind everything in here is an opinion. Even yours.

Don't see how it's childish. You are paying for a product in the end with certain expectations of quality in mind. Some of us here don't think the expansion met it and are discussing how it factors into whether (or how) we continue to play the game, where it goes from here etc. You're perfectly welcome to go to a thread praising the game, or even make one.

Pretty much this. All forums are a small part of the community. That's all gaming forums are now is basically to complain. All of this is still subjective but at least most of it has sparked a good discussion.
