It seems people are intentionally misconstruing the intent of this idea. It's not "oh no these elements exist" it's "I'm having a serious/emotional moment and there's a guy standing next to me wearing pajamas and moogle slippers".
Gasp! If it was added the mere idea in itself would be a enough to overwhelm the senses of those that do not wish to have their character altered. I posed this question to a friend and they said the idea in itself is a problem because as a society we should be promoting acceptance and tolerance across the board. People should be free to express themselves how they want and not have a lingering thought wonder if that person is hiding my outfit. Apparently that can cause some anxiety for many.
Thing is if the feature was added people are still free to express themselves in public, they would not know if someone is using it unless they were told. So how does it impact public perception they have for their character? If they have the perception no one is using it then for the most part no one is using it.
Reality is only decent argument against this is that it is a waste of development resources.

People need to understand and accept that not everyone is going to like them. There's always going to be someone who resents them for whatever reason no matter how petty.
With 6.3 I'll be able to be a rainbow of chocobo colours. I'll be sure to be *extra* noticeable
Is this even that kind of "fantasy game" at this point? With in game cities like old sharlayan having npcs wearing modern fashions and basically a starbucks, and techy things in the game world including a futuristic sci fi spaceship? I can understand not wanting to see someone in a pink bunny suit or something immersion breaking in that way but modern day fashion and technology is pretty much a thing that exists in the msq and the game world regardless of other players. It could also be argued that seeing someone unglamoured in mismatched gear would be even more immersion breaking than that.
I feel like it would be best if the "Oops, all Lalafell!" addon was merged into the base game. If I wanted to look at H*othgar then I'd be playing World of Warcraft.
I shouldnt have anyone else's experience forced on me without consent. It seems like this shouldn't even need to be mentioned, but here we are. I'm saying that in all seriousness.
It should be no one's concern but mine what I see on my screen. If I want to hide everyone else's glam (and I do, without exception), then I should have that choice.
If Yoshi P truly believes in player freedom of choice, and a player's ability to participate in that without being forced into something, then I should have the option to not consent and opt out.
Right now I don't have that option, and as it stands, this community feels very creepy with how they're basically forcing whatever they want on other players, and trying to argue that they shouldn't have the right to enjoy the game how they want.
Honestly, the whole paradigm is deeply disturbing (forcing other people into your experience/fantasy) and contrary to not only player choice, but individual rights. This is actually a big moral problem.
The opposite is just as disturbing and could be viewed as an equally large problem related to morality, so let's not go there.
Your rights are not being impeded in any way, shape, or form because someone decided to run around in an outfit you do not approve of. Just don't look.
But if it really really really means that much to you, then, actually, the option to hide other peoples' glamour exists... through the use of 3rd party tools. Such options as that, we'll never see implemented in XIV, as XIV can barely implement countdown timers without nearly imploding in on itself, so you're going to have to stick with client-side tools for this.
Actually, I want to go there, so please explain your position.
How is disabling glamours for me, somehow disturbing for you? How is controlling how I want to interract with the game, and enjoy the baseline models, in the world, without having to see other people's glamours but my own? I've said nothing beyond that I don't want to see ANYONE's glamours, and there is absolutely no bias towards any specific outfit.
Please defend the point that this is anything more but people trying to force others into their fantasy/experience, and using in game mechanics to create an unsafe space that says "my experience is more important than yours, and you're FORCED to experience it."
No, that's wrong. Evil even. Uncharitably and in best case, that position is nothing more than a thinly veiled guise to control other people, or at worse case, ignoring a player's consent and vehemently forcing their experience into another person's own private session of the game that literally affects no one.
Defend the position, because the gauntlet has been thrown, and I'd like an answer as to how this isnt anything but wrong.
Also, suggesting that I use third party programs and risk my account being banned because of breaching TOS is absolutely insulting. To have to go to such lengths just to enjoy the game in a safe environment is bewildering.
It's a simple matter of not allowing me to partake in my experience. If I don't want to see glamours, why should I have to?
If people choose to put something on, I advocate that they should be free to do so.
But if people want to enjoy the base game, without all the glams, they should have the ability to do so. It's literally as simple as that. I shouldn't have to explain why I should have a right to experience the game in a simplistic matter, while someone else gets to enjoy the game however they want, while also deciding how I should enjoy it too.
Guild Wars 2 has this feature, and has had it for a long while.
We should have it too:

Ah yes, a long worded post attempting to "act cool" or "dismissive" when shown that your argument has no substance at all.
Imagine, if you were a reasonable person you'd have said something akin to this:
Instead we get some long, rambling, hypocritical, lacking in any sound coherence rant.Quote:
If you didnt care, you'd simply say "yeah more player choice is good, it seems reasonable to let people enjoy parts of the game they want to, and avoid the parts they don't want to"
I've said it in another thread:
The only truth is you're fighting tooth and nail to try to determine another person's experience, using disingenuous arguments, logical fallacies, or just downright incorrect information.Quote:
- Don't want to do do weekly raids? You don't have to.
- Don't want to do pvp? you don't have to (funny how CONSENUAL PVP is a term. Strange, we keep seeing that word, Consent.)
- Don't want to do pve? you don't have to (there's pvp)
- Don't want to do side quests? You don't have to
- Don't want to enable glams? You don't have a choice.
Your actions tell the ulterior motive to be had here.
Here's a game that actually values player choice, it's GW2: https://en-forum.guildwars2.com/topi...s-and-outfits/
P.S. I'm here exposing charlatans all week.
P.S. P.S. It's actually a play on the Flintstones and the Sopranos. That's actually called word play, as it plays on conceptual expressions, not a bird sound. Unless you know any real cavemen running around your neighborhood, or have been to a butcher's shop as of late. (We know you don't and haven't).
P.S. P.S. P.S. Like the rest of your post, you're also wrong about the TOS on third party tools: https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodes...0c5d56cb2e4547
You don't have to worry about me, what the staff says about you advertising it as an option :)
I give equal amount of substance, and sometimes sprinkle something extra when I feel like it, to whatever I reply to.
I mean, hell, at least I went through your whole post instead of dismissing it entirely without even trying. You know, like how I did this time, after the very first line.
I'm so evil. <3
You know, instead of arguing, let's put it to a vote:

I've wanted this since glamour became a thing. Don't see it happening. I'm 99% sure there is a technical reason they can't pull it off in FFXIV's current iteration.
And even if they could, unfortunately people think the concept of not being seen afk-dancing naked next to city aetherytes deeply offends them.
I would rather they didn't do this, but instead made it so when you Blacklist someone, they are (Player) then made to be completely Invisible to you.
So then, if someone was Bikini tanking and I didn't like to see it, I could just Blacklist, ala-Dead to me.
This is one of the most egotistical phrases I've seen on here. How about this since we're so keen on telling others what to do: just wear something else.
Stop advising people to use 3rd party tools. They are against the ToS . It doesn't matter if they exist in a grey "don't ask don't tell" area. Personally I don't want to risk the thousands of hours and dollars I've invested in this game just because narcissistic people like you have to be the center of attention.
If voice of the star didn't want us to wear fat chocobo heads, why did they put them on this star?
I don't think you realise how fugly some base gear can be, especially when mismatched.
Also, what happens when something like this ends up being BiS and everyone is running around in it?
A better suggestion that might get you more support could be job based auto glamour.
With each class and job having it's own default look, and having that replace peoples glamour.
Skimmed the last few pages and I wish my life was so uneventful that someone wearing a thong on their pixel avatar was enough to ruin my day to the extent I'll start throwing out words like "consent" about digital clothing. Holy hell.
While I would rather not have the game default us to what gear we're wearing bc some of that is mega ugly. I think having a toggle to default to the class gear, at the very least for instanced content, would be fine. I think getting up in arms about what people are wearing is silly as hell but if it's implementable why not.
What a terrible proposition. Having everyone wear the same mismatched bis endgame gear. This thread needs to be buried forever.
I cannot believe people are still defending not giving others an option
Sure it's never gonna happen since sqex needs to sell cosmetics and if people could just turn them off it would hurt their revenue
But there is no valid moral reason for not having this option
I'll support the option only if it affects the user as well, i.e. it hides their glamour too. (❁´▽`❁)*✲゚*
Wouldn't want any to accidently break their own immersion or get distracted by modern and/or sexy clothing. And it would be lore accurate too! d=(´▽`)=b
I still can't help but laugh at people still getting offended by seeing people in bikini's.
What do you tell folks in real life at the pool or beach? XXXXXXXXDDDDDDDDD.
I vote yes, more options is more options but this would be an incredible waste of their time but sure kekw.
Why does this whole thread stink of “not in my back yard.”
OK, let's not pretend the troll who resurrected this disaster of a thread is asking for their immersion to not be broken by modern glamours, revealing glamours or any other kind of glamour. Going by their loaded wording they simply can't handle, as someone else put it, the simplest of life's obstacles - existing in the same space as other people with other preferences.
