Almost as good as a mid sized Miqo'te named Chibi Kaito. I swear I havn't used a fantasia at any point, really!

That would be my main concern as well. There's a few folks on my server whose name have becomes verbs describing various acts of... less than desirable behavior. I'd really hate to see any system that allowed them to leave that reputation behind outside of starting over from scratch.

That said, they are the VAST minority - and it wouldn't be right to let them ruin it for those that really do deserve the option of a name change.

Maybe we'll get a surprise and it'll come out 2.4? I would hope so. Sick of the Basch fon Rosenburg jokes. Need lore appropriate name.

As for people with bad reps, this can be fixed if somehow their names stay on your ignore lists and just change when changed by the player.

Not sure how difficult it would be to implement but maybe if they changed it so when you put someone on your blacklist it "blacklisted" their account not just their character?

OH MY GOD! Why do you care if someone you blacklisted called "John" changed his name to "Smith"!? when you blacklist someone, you cant join their party, you cant talk to them, you cant be with them, you cant be thrown with them on DF or PF, YOU CAN'T SEE THEM! So why the freak do you care about his name change? do you check your blacklist everyday and be like "yep, John is definitely still there" -.- I love the ones who are like "Yeah he should totally get what he deserves" really? that's so forgiving of you. You know what? don't worry about them 'cause 80% of them are out of your world and annoying someone else as we speak, making billion of friends while your still alone saying "Yeah he should totally get what he deserves" and he's having a blast. Report and get over it.

Stop talking like the concern over people "escaping a reputation" if they change your name holds even the slightest bit of water.

It doesn't.

Being stuck with one name does not change behavior in the slightest. Being able to change names would be viewed as a means of clearing their reputation by a fraction of a fraction of the game's population, and it wouldn't even be effective then. The blacklist almost entirely covers this, and where the blacklist falls short, continued bad behavior would be more than enough to quickly regain one's bad rap -- unless, of course, they behaved better from then on out and used a name change as a legitimate way to make a fresh start, in which case: More power to them.

The positive benefit this would have to other players would be greater by several orders of magnitude.

It has been said by others here that "escaping a reputation" would be their main concern. As others have also said, if this is done correctly and like other games have done, it wouldn't matter because their name would be changed across the board. Even if you went into your blacklist and saw a name you didn't recognize, it would be safe to assume you put them there for a reason. If a friend changed their name, chances are they would have told you. As Mahri said as well, if they are an ass then their new name will get blacklisted or reported just as often. If they are using it to actually make a new start, great! It has been suggested that this should only be able to happen once in a certain time frame, making it rather expensive in game, making it a RL pay service. There have been many ideas for solutions to this problem that's not really a problem.

Other games have this feature. They have not exploded from all the people with bad reputations running around changing their name. :)

I support a name changing service. First time is free.

As I understand it, blacklists are tied to player IDs, not names, so name-changes should be safe in that respect.

I also want to change my name for RP reasons. SE why can't I give you more money yet?!

I think it's silly that we have fantasia potions and no name change, it's keeping me from buying any fantasia's because I know I'll have a non-lore friendly name! I'd really like to see a combo, 1 fantasia and 1 name change, being sold in the store. I'm hoping that when they fix the mog station so you can purchase more than 1 set of 1 fantasia that they'll start to add more items

I also agree that the "bad people will use it to continue to be bad" argument is nonexistent, for the reasons Mahri stated

Also, with regards to improving the Atma drop rate in 2.4.

I was considering abusing the name change server jump trick on Lynette. Not because I don't like her name, but because after my long break from the game I just have different ideas for what I want to play with from before.

That, and I kind of want a simpler name to deal with that a little LESS lore friendly because I'm just chomping at the bit for the new race(s) coming soon and want my name to work with whatever I finally choose to look like~

I'd like to also throw my vote for a Namingway NPC or card or whatever to change my name. I've used multiple Fantasia potions to change my race and I would like a lore-worthy name to go along with it.

Just a reminder to people freaking out about blacklisted individuals changing names, SE has addressed this. If you go to the player help menu from in game, they have addressed that players who are on your blacklist that change names, will have his/her name changed on the blacklist as well, and will stay on your black list.

It's just...ya know, not possible to even do this without a name change service to begin with :']

It was annoying because everyone would change their name. It was confusing because if you did not keep track of everyone on your friends list you would not know who is who.

The only reason the current method of changing names does not have this problem^^^^^^is because when it happens you lose your friends list. And if who you lost on your list was truly our friend, you or s/he would make contact somehow(even if ti means one of you stalking the known FC house. lol.)



Besides. Your name is part of your identity. You could end up going into Duty Roulette tomorrow and finding some long lost companion you met a long time ago in Duty Roulette. Without your name you would lose experiences like this. Your name is your identity and your character develops with that name.

If I was Square-Enix, which I'm not, I would want people to keep their names so they fit themselves in the community. Not someone who just changed their identity as if they're putting on a mask every time they get bored with their name or it becomes irrelevant over time.



And if you do not like your name then that is your fault. Choosing a name is very important and it seems a lot are not very good at it. I have no regrets with my name except that I wish I did not shorten my first name, Morzone, into Morzy because no one ever knows my full name unless I tell them. And I get that some don't think like I did when I chose this name.. but sometimes we have to live with the choices we make.


And hey be proud of who you are. You made it through this with that whacky name of yours.

I do see the points being laid out there, but RuneScape is only one example of how this sort of system has been implemented in other games. The parameters for a name change in that game isn't exactly what most of us are looking for in this game, most have suggested different sorts of guidelines. But I'm probably just whining because I want this service.

As I said as well, I could live with it if they didn't put it in, it wouldn't make me stop playing, I'd just rather not.

Here's the thing: Most people aren't asking for a free name change at all. WE ARE WILLING TO THROW MONEY AT SE TO DO THIS.
Just like with Phantasia, we want to be able to change our names, even at a fixed fee.
We just want to be able to have this service.

SE is a business.... this game and everything it has to offer is a product of said business. Having a simple, additional product to generate more revenue = win/win situation. The only reason NOT to impliment this is due to the fact that devs are too busy with content development.
As I've already stated in this thread, blacklisted individuals will stay on your blacklist - despite whatever name change he/she may have.
Logically, if someone is on your blacklist, even if you don't recognize the name, they are on your blacklist.... you put them there for a reason. So, why fret over a blacklisted character's name change?

Your name is your identity. Yes. THEN WHY GIVE US PHANTASIA??? If we were to take SO much time to go over our character's appearance and name, WHY would we need a phantasia to change our character's appearance COMPLETELY?

I'm not even gonna get into privacy. It's sort of obvious that some people are reluctant to use his/her real name as a character, and thus decide to use lore specific names, role play, ect to fufill their hearts content for the time being.

Humans are indecisive creatures. If we choose to one day want to name change because we are playing a mmoRPG and we want our name to fit the lore of our character, then so be it. RPGs are MEANT to be immersed in. How on earth am I supposed to feel immersed in an RPG when I am a female lalafell with the name John Smith??

Ok... I need to end this rant and just face plant a wall.....

It's been almost a year since SE commented on this. We need some information on whether this service will be available or not!

I'm totally willing to pay, I don't care about a free one-time option. I just want it.

So, since we are gettin a cash shop, do you guys think its a step closer to getting a name change service? I'm praying so. I made a new character banking on the assumption that I might be able to see past event items in game again, but since they are going to be included in the cash shop, I'd honestly want to just rename my character instead of buying everything I already have on a different character.... (or, ya know, give us an account warehouse, but that's a completely different subject)

If they institute a name change feature, they need to:

1. Add a feature where you can display the "formerly known as" name in search data for that character.
2. Automatically update Blists with the new character name.

Supposedly blacklists already do this, and if so, that sorta removes any reason for your #1 point too.

Besides that, people keep the same character ID on lodestone, so if you really want to be some creepy stalker, you can just bookmark people in case they change their names.

Since you guys still complain about that black list thing, there is your proof that black-listed individuals name changing will NOT affect your gameplay.

you know when they introduce the new race, they will allow a name change, possibly with buying the expansion gives a fantasia like us 1.0 characters when we got the option to also change our names.

We would just like to know for sure if they are still planning this. Or even just some updated information since all the info we do have is at least a year old. Not denying that that is a possibility or anything, we would just like to know if plans are in the works. :)

Now that we have this cash shop service, single character purchases are available - meaning implementing a name change item or service would be much easier to do so rather than a service added to the entire account (which is why they probably have been stalling on this)

Lol! It's gotten more likes than I thought though, so that's good. The ones farther down didn't seem to be getting as much attention...But yeah. I do certainly hope that with the single character purchase changes and such that this will come up soon.

A recent re-read over the naming convention lore prompts me to push this one up again.

C'mon, give us these things. What if I want to be a lalafell or elezen? You wrote all that backstory! Let me be like, Sanzuzu Sanzu or Sanzelle Marie. :P

Alternatively, you're gonna force me to headcanon up a story about how the cat people adopted an elf or whatever and that's just silly.

Happy to know there is a retainer name change. Now my fc mates and I wont undercut each other cuz ill just name my retainer my character name.
