There were a lot of interesting rings that made the top ten.
They have some neat selections but it kinda sucks they didn't have the really cool ring designs I saw. But I voted for #10. But I was kinda torn on #6 too.
Congrats to the guys who made it into the top 10!
I have to say, I'm a bit disappointed and envious (just honest ; ; ), too :S
Saw better ones in this thread than, for example, no. 8 :S Of course it's well made! But it would have been better for me to understand if they had posted the name of it. (Can't really tell what it's showing except those 'stairs')
Also I think design 4 and 7 have kind of the same style.
Well, I voted for #1, because I think it's cute, funny and I'd love to wear it ingame :O
Hello, I am the person who made the ring No. 8, I'm sorry but I think that description, statistics, the name ... be displayed with the image.
Send a description Square Enix (A personal comment or a hook for your artwork (100 characters maximum) "Will you be strong enough to climb the 7 classes and retrieve the crystal from the clutches of primordial"
With desription we understand much better the general idea of the ring.
Each 'stairs' have a class written.
'Hooks' at the base of the stairs is the teeth of a primordial.
Dragons represent primordial.
The crystal they protect, weapons Ifrit eg
The particular form in itself is explained by the initial project was more complex but rules out from the competition.
Unsheathing weapons in the ring would have to deploy and cover the finger at the manner of a claw, 2 hook encircle the 2nd phalanx of anulaire each "stair" by deployant would display the symbol each class and finally the crystal, and that takes 4 small, break up to form 5 to 6 crystal would have gone over the bone at the base of the phalanges.
Lament the description of the initial project but to explain its shape, so the result and the shape of the object out of combat.
Hoping to have answered the question that arises gents.
I voted for 2 because it feels the most XIV like. The Aethertye is basically an iconic symbol of XIV, so it would be cool to have jewellery that represents it.
I hope we see a contest for other jewellery in the future.
I was torn about #1, #3 and #9...I really like the idea behind the first one, it fits and it's kind of funny.
The third one looks cool and as a legacy member I kind of HAVE to like it xD Also, it makes me think of LotR and I love LotR :D
In the end I voted for #9 though. It's such a cute and natural ring and just kind of stood out to me.
When making my vote I also looked at how I imagine the ring to actually look at a character and while the idea for rings like the 8th or 2nd are very original, I don't think they make a good ring because they either have too many details or are too bulky.
I loved some of the other designs shown in this thread and I'm sad they didn't make it into the final selection :(
Catapult's Velodyna Ring (simple, cute, lorebased and I like the idea that it affects raise recast because it fits the theme of the ring)
Ilithia's Ring by Kasumuni (It didn't stand out to me as an ingame ring but I'd love to wear this one in RL :o)
Crystal Eye Ring by Zantetsuken (It looks like a crystallized Dalamud crashed into an ancient map and it gives + to map discovery? That's awesome :D I know, it's a hommage to the first FF title and after reading the whole entry I can see the little scenes and it's nice to remember them but in the end, that's what I see in that ring, sorry ^.-)
Unnamed Ring by Vergil_Renata (Looks like one of the flowers in the current Gridania forest, so cute and beautiful and probably nostalgic in ARR because Gridania will change..also, if the #9 ring started blooming it would probably look like this :D I think this ring would have gotten my vote if it made it to the finals^^)
Bluebun's Ring is nice too, so fluffy :x
Those were my favorite designs, just wanted to praise everyone for it even if only #3 made it into the finals. You are all still very awesome :o
Coris well, it's hard to say.
And especially i took it quite late.
1st step : drawing on paper. I suck at drawing so ti was better to not do it.
2nd step : learn how to use blender, software that i never use before. (you can see some defect)
3rd step : realize the project of "the ring out of the combat". The final version "in combat" is a work in progress for my personnal pleasure.
hoping to have answered your question
Sorry for the time of my answer but I'm pretty bad at English. So I must ask friends for translation. Google trad makes error.
It was a tough call for me between #3 and #6 but i voted for #6 because the multible rings made it look a little bit like a Rajas ring.
Probably final update to this forum maybe till they show the in game ring & stats.
They posted a gallery of rings.
Can someone enlighten me as to how this is supposed to be a ring?

I want this one.
Wow, OK I'm officially pissed now. My submission apparently didn't even get accepted as it wasn't displayed in the link they put up today.
Up yours SE, I made certain it was within the contest guidelines.

My Precious X.X
Actually I saw a number of rings ... including mine .. that weren't in there. I dunno what to say XD I mean I didn't spend that much time on mine, but other ones I know people spent a lot of time on weren't even showcased.
Can not believe some of the blatant rip offs in there

This is Aragorn's ring from Lord of the Rings, google image "Ring of barahir" and it should be one of the first results.
Seriously SE if you're going to hold a contest like this you need to review these submissions a little more carefully, when voting for the top 10 was announced I believe there were two rings that people pointed out which weren't very original. One of them was even close to something your own company created...
the one pictured in this post was 100% stolen from LotR
Here is mine ^_^

But here's the skinny on my ringy!
Concept and Mockup Art

This was the "flat" image of the ring as well as a 3-D mockup I made to see if the design could be viable as an actual ring (I wanted to be reasonable and considerate of the programmers if they picked my design).

The moon(s) played a big part in the lore of Eorza and so, too, would it be on my submission.
Final Design - Inked
http://static2.finalfantasyxiv.com/a...UcKiJSruGs.jpg
After all the planning and layout I made a clean redrawing (by hand) of the ring and inked it for coloring. It also gave an even better look at how the ring was to appear.
Final Design - Hand Painted

After an hour or two, here is the final product, The Echoing Gyre, in full-color glory with a little symbolic and explanatory window dressing for good measure.
Official Entry:
Entry title (max. 50 characters): The Echoing Gyre-Pasts Relived for a Realm Reborn!
Personal comment or caption for your entry (max. 100 characters): Honor those who came before, learn from them, and appear not as you are but perhaps who you were...
Ring stats (max. 50 characters): 1 anima: Appear as a past Eorzan, +5% EXP, 60 min.
Ring name (max. 25 characters): Echoing Gyre
Ring Explanation
Echoes have played a part of Final Fantasy lore for a long time, and this game was no exception. As the actions we accomplish now will ripple into the future in A Realm Reborn, I wanted to capture that feeling and concept with my ring submission. As water plays a big role in FFXIV (especially being a Limsan and despite no actual "water" spell haha) I wanted a name, too, that would reflect my intentions. So...
gyre [jahyuhr]
noun
1. a ring or circle.
2. a circular course or motion.
3. Oceanography . a ringlike system of ocean currents rotating clockwise in the Northern Hemisphere and counterclockwise in the Southern Hemisphere.
With my concept in-mind, I began the design. The circles would take care of themselves since this is a ring, but what of the echoes? What would be the ultimate visual and in-game mechanical effect?
To represent echoes I had each circle bounce from one to the other (this also made a balanced yin-yang design which was crucial for later). Along the outside of the band was also a series of large ( going one way and smaller ) going the other to represent echoes, but if looked at as a whole could be seen as a complete circle.
The moon, Dalamud especially, needed to be represented as it was crucial to the game and what was to occur so it was represented in various phases going from white to red (as it occurred and a nod to our wonderful Japanese game manufacturers) but with a "constant" in the middle. A strong, square diamond. You, me, the adventurer that despite all that goes on around him remains a fixed, gleaming point in time.
The blue-silver metal of mythril was chosen to frame the moons for color balance (red and blue) and to represent the sky through which the moon passes. The interior band is gold. Precious, valueable, much like the one who wears the ring, and also represents the sun as it performs its celestial dance with the moon. The interior of the band is engraved with a line down the middle, a constant cycle. Spaced out on and between the moons are point that much like a timeline show the Seven Umbral Eras. The hash marks both indicate a time when things begin to darken and there is one hash for each of the five races in height order: Lalafell, Miqo'te, Hyur, Elezen, and Roegadyn.
7 Eras and 4 moons = 11. But what of The Twelve? Ah, it is you, the wearer of the Echoing Gyre that is the most important to reach this number as 7+4+1 (you) = 12. Within, without. Exterior, interior. Past, future. All in balance (yin-yang reference).
What of the in-game effects? Simple! As you learn from experience the ring would provide you with an EXP boost. As well it was to have a cosmetic effect to temporarily change your character model into someone else. Perhaps an NPC from the past? Perhaps a PC friend from the present? But for a short while you could "be" someone else (much how disguise items in XI allowed you to be a Rarab, etc.).
