Hmm that's disappointing - I'm sure Yoshi said in one of his letters that gameplay frottage would start to become available from Gamescom onwards :(
btw first publical presentation war 2 hours ago . Still no video from anyone ?
Yoshi said in one interview I read this morning that the reason they have not released official gameplay footage in HD is that he's still not happy with the graphical quality, and doesn't want to release soemthing to the world that will be judged unfairly.
Judged unfairly? This community? no...
Aye, but the community rep said they want it released via the media because Yoshida doesn't feel it's ready for an official release. Also added that they don't want to alienate the Japanese players. Because apparently the Japanese aren't as capable to watch stuff on YouTube as the rest of the world.
So looks like we have to wait yet again, this time till TGS, because the media didn't adhere to SE's marketing strategy.
I like how the stuff we just got isn't good enough. Oh sure, we got a leaked gameplay video, WHO CARES? New screenshots? GET OUT OF MY FACE, NERD!
Both E3 and Gamescom have given us new media on the game, with new information. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Tokyo Game Show is going to disappoint you, simply because whatever it is they bring, it won't meet your ridiculously high standards.
Well.. if you gave everything all at one shot and leave nothing for 2-4 months people won't remember the game, Beta is this fall, they plan to stretch out the information from now till Beta ( Hence Regular updates), and Gameplay alone is gives alot of information right there, ( and incoming of Interviews from today till Sunday).
September 1st with there 25th anniversary event, they will show it off there and then shortly after in there home turf Tokyo Game Show ( which at that point they will probably give alot of information there " Probably more than Gamescom"), and then Beta is just like weeks away at that point.
That's how I feel like its going to go.
I'm sorry, it was my understanding that A Realm Reborn was meant to compete in today's gaming market.
Most people who even know XIV exists have no clue it's being remade from the ground up. They still think of it as that game from Oct. 2010.
I don't need any videos. I'll be playing 2.0 no matter how the game is marketed. But I do want a lot of other people to play so that this game stays online for a long time.
But to the mass populace, this game has two strikes against it already: the v1 launch and the fact that it's staying pay-to-play.
Plus I can't help but see the contradiction in saying "we're not releasing the video because we feel it's not ready but we want it to be released by the media."
Why allow it to be released at all if it's not ready? Because then all we get out there are stories like Kotaku's where the headline is "shaky cam video released."
And while we here in our little bubble may write off sites like Kotaku or IGN, there are plenty of potential players out there who shape their opinion around what they read there.
So get an attitude with me all you want, but I'm thinking of the greater good. SE needs to be in people's faces non-stop till release. Getting into the ARR betas needs to be the next big thing, so that way people can tell all their friends how great it is and how they NEED to play it.
But as it stands now, the game is still at the base of a very tall marketing mountain. They need to compete with all games, not just a handful of other MMOs like XI did ten years ago.
I have a question.
So basically, if someone did not sneakily videotaped that gameplay footage and sneakily posted on youtube, we wouldn't get any official gameplay footage from Gamescom?
I'm wondering the same thing >.> Also anyone know when the "flood" is starting? Today or tomorrow maybe? I hope they announce new jobs.
Maybe it was all part of their viral marketing strategy? Like Yoshida said, this version was not fully optimized, they didn't feel it was worthy of an official release by them.
Instead they are depending on leaked footage as a way to spread it to the masses. That way maybe expectations will be somewhat tempered (lol) since this leaked un-optimized early build was not officially released by SE and thus will not be confused as an almost complete build (which I'm sure many of the general mass can easily mistaken it for).
Of course I could be entirely wrong, I'm just trying to guess what is going through their minds.
Only thing I can guess is the fact the animations may not be completely smooth otherwise they're releasing screenshots -- what makes them think people won't judge the game by the screenshots? There's still very little reason not to release videos but we'll have to deal with the low quality leaked ones.
As said, they are definitely being overly cautious.
Over 100,000 views within a day and I see alot of Positive Remarks coming from there and other News sites (of course there's your few average day trolls) BUT, its what we been asking for Gameplay of some sort! and we got it! and people seem impressed! Go all The way YOSHI-P!
Again, I've posted about this before, and I will post again.
We're so used to disappointment by SE that we're used to justifying bad things with random explanations like these. This is Gamescom OK. Depending on leaked cellphone footage for aggressive marketing...? If this were any other games, nobody would be close to coming up with excuses like this.
Step it up SE please. We've resorted to making excuses like "it's probably bad translation", "it's probably a poor choice of words", "it's probably because they want to show lore that they released subpar screenshots", "it's probably because they're depending on leaked footage", while in fact, it's probably just bad design and bad marketing strategy and incompetency.
So many marketing geniuses in this thread !
I am sorry but remade pretty graphics and jumping around doesn't even begin to address why the majority of people have turned away from this game. If these new zones and beautiful looking animations and spells mean I still have to do Aurum and Cutters 500 or so times to get a set of Darklight gear, count me out. Nevermind Hamlet is the same thing, lets do that event how many times for each member (dont forget you are not doing these events for yourself only) of your Linkshell. Ifrit was the same on a smaller scale.... Moogle was the same... Garuda.... Really? This is truely the future of MMO gaming.......
yoshida even said in an interview today that its not ready for a public release, what is so hard to understand about that?
If your damn muffin isn't done yet you wait and let it bake some more, you don't just grab it out of the oven and wolf it down while its still gooey and raw inside. Unless you're a 9 year old...
Any translation yet for the video? I did a search and came up with nada.
Thanks!
i speak german, trust me youre better off without one^^
Hes basically stating the obvious, getting things wrong (said yoshida is setting his skills when he equipped his AF for example), or making horrible puns. the only interesting part were that shadows change during the ingame day and that the Limit Break system is the new name for the battle regiments
Just came back home from Gamescom. I attended the FFXIV gameplay demo and it was pretty fun and the game looks amazing.
1) The grass really doesn't look at bad as people make it sound like. It didn't annoy me at all.
2) The jump function is implemented in the best way possible. It looks natural, not annoying. Yoshi sure loved to jump to show how it worked/looked. Yoshi plays the demo version himself every single time.
3) The area looks amazing, no more copy/paste. It looks genuine, feels real and really helps the immersion in my opinion. It got a way more of a FFXI feeling than FFXIV ever had before, which is in my opinion a fun thing!
4) The area the presentation was in was small, but it was full. I think there were around 150-200 people, mostly FF fans.
5) Beta registration was going on in full force, 6 hot blonde chicks were running around with Ipads to help people register for the beta. One of the girls was not that smart, so I had to "help" her out. She was asking people if they were playing FFXIV and when people said "no" she let them walk away. So I asked her if it isn't a better idea to make those people sign-up for the beta too, since it might result in extra players ....
It was fun the see the mastermind behind FFXI: A Realm Reborn, looks and sounds like a really nice guy. Too bad he was gone so fast after the presentation since he had a pretty full schedule.
Oh, forgot to mention. He showed some concept art of Shiva, Garuda, Titan, Ifrit. Also, he showed some concept art for the PvP area that is going to be released in 2.0. I am going to look at my pictures in a bit and see if they are ok to upload.
omg please upload shiva please like i need this now.
He moved pretty quick with those concept art shots so I just saw that I only was able to capture Titan :(
I am uploading some of the pictures now. Kinda sad I missed Shiva :( She looked nice, not really sexy, but still very cool and better than FFXI from what I could see in those 3 seconds. Sorry again guys, hope someone else was able to capture it.
I sure did enjoy! I enjoyed FFXIV: ARR and WoW: MoP stands the most. Not playing WoW anymore, but those guys know how to advertise a damn game. I expected a lot from GW2 too, but SE did a way better job than Arenanet did, so thumbs up to SE!
Here are the pictures that look ok enough to share.

Well done Evenstar :D. Thanks for all the info, and I'll hold back my jealous rage for not being able to attend.
We wanted to give you guys a peek at the backstage set up they’re using at gamescom 2012!
While Yoshida demonstrates on stage, there are three other team members backstage controlling the other party members that he meets up with in the demo. The bottom three screens you see are for the other staff members, with the raised screen being Yoshida’s character. The large screen in front shows what is currently being shown on the main stage.
They’re currently holding live demonstrations each day at 2:30pm, 4pm and 5:30pm, so I hope you’re all cheering them on through the stress! lol
Nice...
Now where's Shiva?
