Well , to be honest man the battle system have great concepts, but is an unfinished product.if we dont look at it this way, we wont find the good or bad parts.Currently the battle system is lacking , but the concepts are good, although reallly badly implemented.
Brs, incapacitation,mix/matching skills, all great in paper but you eventually see it as it is.An unfinished product.Hard to say is good or bad, the devs themselfs said they tought it was okay to release an unfinished product, and evolve it over time, unfortunately we arent as forgiving as 8 years ago.I find it hard to go into detail about battle and class system , couse in the end its all down to the same,, its not finished.Idk if it will turn out good or bad, but currently is only a shell, lacking everything else.

Party tactics and challenges are rare.Sure there are some exceptions but honestly is far and short.At least comparing it to other mmos in the market.

I am actually playing. It is not that hard to write while you are crafting.

As far as I know it was pretty clear that the numbered patches are the ones with more content and that the .a and .b patches are small tweaks to the content added with those numbered patches.

So someone making a thread like this after patch 1.16a patch notes were released is a troll in my eyes. I would have replied in a normal way if he had made this thread after 1.17 or 1.18, but making such a thread after 1.16a just shows me that Abriael that posted the quote below is right, especially about the bold part.

Even though I barely use FFXIV websites, I'm seeing a pretty heafty amount of:

Negative People: "Why are you being positive? You're supposed to loathe this game!
Positive People: "Not everyone enjoys it but I can find something about it to enjoy while they work on it."
Negative People: "You're blind to the problems then."
Troll #1: "This offline game will kill FFXIV."
Negative People: "SE is running out of time there needs to be content."

Honestly, the game was rushed out, it needs foundational fixes then it needs content, yes they can work on both together, no it doesn't make sense to do it that way because you can change the battle system which renders the newly added content useless because it no longer works due to mobs not being able to utilize x,y,z command.

someone explain to me how this new targeting works and is supose to make things easier cus targeting mobs in this game is ONE of the hugest shitfest assbackwards things to do.Nothing like doing a leve w/ 4 mobs on you.You kill 1 mob then you try to target the next and it either targets a damn mob 40foot away or u lock onto yourself. FF11s targeting was so easy and streamline how can you fark something up that was already pretty damn easy and likable/usable in a previous game.

Unoptimized due to a rushed released, if you played FFXIII you can tell the targeting system is pretty flawless and being the same engine they can literally use the same system, however XI was a completely different engine. This is the problem with XIV being "different from XI" as the original goal.

Only time will tell if us skeptics were right.

My prediction is SE has 3-weeks from today to announce something big.

Rift is about to release patch 1.1 that has 12 pages of update content plus world events, now that's a patch. SE could learn a few things from these other MMO companies that are actually making money...

Everyone is saying wait a year wait 6 months, hell within a year other MMO's coming out will Smash the hell out of FF14
and I know Skryim is not an MMO but I would much rather play Skyrim for 3-5 years then play FF14 even a year from now..
between GW2, SWTOR, TERA, and SKryim is there even room in my hard drive for FF14 by then, d0n't think so.

All joking aside I liked mortal combat up till the second one. The series never caught my eye again after that, and much better fighting games popped up. Soul caliber, Virtua Fighter, Capcom vs. series.

That's one of the games with the least to do with FFXIV's playerbase, with very limited longevity (6-7 hours according to valve) and with no real chances to pull many away from any MMORPGs for any sizable time. Especially from MMORPGs they don't have to pay for.

So yeah. I'm sure Portal 2 will inpact FFXIV a lot. For 6-7 hours :D

Not to mention one of the blandest entries in the MMORPG market in years. Two months, and no one will even remember it existed, pretty much like all the previous wow clones. People are already murmuring how bland, boring and more of the same it is now.

Ok, I just read most of the last 10 or so pages. *sigh* That was a lot of reading. haha Now I do have to say a few things.

1. As I have mentioned on my previous posts on this thread I am curious as to why people are worried about Square Enix as a company. Things like.... "Will it be able to hold it's fan base? or All of these people are quitting what will they do to keep them around? or They need to hire more man power to do ...blah..blah..blah. "

I seriously doubt that most of you who are all this concerned about this have never had a real job in your life. Because most people who do work in real life like me are barely keeping things together in their life and don't have time to be concerned about a gaming company on the other side of the world. But maybe that's just me. I guess I am a little selfish because I am fairly old. ; ;

2. All of the people who want an overhaul of the system or want their content now.

Are you a computer programmer or computer engineer. How about a computer graphics designer or w/e? I am not. However, I did study about a year of computer programming in college. It was a lot of work but fun. I remember it involved a lot of work to get anything good to materialize. Needless to say I am not a computer buff by any means but I do know that asking a company to redesign a new mechanics for the game and overhaul the game completely will require countless months and maybe years depending how much staffing they have. Same thing goes with a contents. Do you guys just all of these ideas just come out of their b*** and should be implemented by the next day with a help of a hoarde of 1000's for programmers? It takes time people. People have debates and meetings in their offices about every little they want to implement. Atleast that's how most of the companies I think in the world do it when they want to put their name beside a product.

3. To people who do not enjoy this game but yet they continue to play.

Why do you guys continue to play? Let me guess you are waiting for another major MMO to come out to replace this with? Why not just quit playing games and maybe leave the house and see what the real life is all about? That ought to bring a new perspective to everthing in life.

4. The game is free.

YES! It is still free except ...well it's financially free. :D
So just enjoy it....if not just quit.

Ivar - I agree with your sentiment. I have made similar posts here and another place time and time again speaking to the very same issues you and others have mentioned in this very thread but the folks we addressing just don't give a crap. They do not care about logic. They do not care about patience. They do not care about anything whatsoever except themselves and when the next opportunity to sow dissent and hostility.

On the same token you can think of them as hunting - they are looking for feed - and that is their specialized diet of troll feed. Not just any troll feed will do, either. It must be something thrown out there into the slop bucket that is associated with FFXIV. Just like there are trolls that prefer certain feed provided in other instances outside of FFXIV - like, real world problems (what I have in mind here are some of the comments made when Japan experienced the earthquake and tsunami). The particular breed of troll we see on these boards are insidious and very difficult to get rid of. They are worse than a foot fungus in some cases.

It is also interesting to see how quickly people forget that the game was shut down for 2 weeks. I have a feeling that the patch Yoshi-san and gang wanted to implement was going to be a huge deal and a sizable one but with having the servers shut down, they couldn't just throw it out there when they wanted. March is not over yet - not saying the dream patch we are looking for is going to occur before the month is done. I am just saying. I also need to point out that Yoshi-san did advise there would be a delay.

So with this LOLPATCH post - how about you LOLyourselfapatienceisavirtuetriteclichecomment at your nearest intellectual store. :D

I wont buy into the fear mongering tactic to assume that this game's progression should be excused due to the countries events. Yes the tsunami and earthquake occured recently and thankfully there was not a direct impact on tokyo. I want to pause and state my prayers go out to the tens of thousands who perished in the disaster and I hope my monetary donation will help those surviving and in need of aid. Now getting back to my point: (Sendai is 188miles away from Tokyo where the Square Enix headquarters operates!). Yes many companies were requested or chose to power down to be mindful of the nuclear crisis, but there was not a total blackout or loss of power to a major grid. Japan suffered a major blow,however, they were not completely wiped off the face of the earth. And no the economy is not going to crash and gas prices are not going to soar out the roof. Fear-mongering=troll, however;
showing concern for FFXIV's long overdue opportunity to present a revival (as stated in the OP comment) isn't.

Oh I agree Hoopty - I am just as concerned as the rest of those that do truly care about FFXIV. What I ask you guys to do is take things into context in regards to the time line. Be concerned. Voice your concerns in a civil manner, wait and see. And if SE does not deliver then it's time to move on, right? Right.

I also posted what I did seeing how others that choose to defend SE are being treated on these boards - it's quite deplorable. It's inexcusable. It needs to stop.

Quite frankly, I never mentioned the tsunami issue as a fear mongering tactic - that is quite a laughable accusation by good sir. Anyway, this game has come a long way since it's release. Granted there are many things that should have been implemented upon release instead of months down the road. The important thing that SE could have ever done was change the guard on the development team and trudge full steam ahead. Let them get the issues ironed out, allow them the time they need to get it done (and yes they do not have all the time in the world, we understand this) and see how it goes. They have a great deal on their plan of attack table.

Yeah, it's not fear mongering but it does prove who hasn't actually been through a disaster such as this to know it's perfectly reasonable to understand things can and will slowdown at times like this.

I don't recall 9/11 causing a nuclear crisis and a major power outtage through the country, that brought rolling power blackouts for months and similar events.
While 9/11 was an extremely tragic event, it was also a localized disaster, it didn't destroy power plants and other service centers that influence gaming companies and their operation.

O poor poor guy ... the guy released a letter less than two weeks ago. What do you expect him to do? Hold our hand every day? Kiss you a good night? They said we will probably get more information about battle changes this week. They stated 1.17 that was scheduled to be released end of March is pushed back for about two weeks. They even told us they will release companies information just before the release of 1.17. What else do you want, seriously?

Look at how much info SE has given us since the forums went live.... not after the earthquake. Since the forums went live they figured out they don't need to update us that often anymore since we got a place to keep busy while complaining. Look at the previous letters and info from SE, we were getting stuff almost a couple of times per week. Now it's once a month and the trend will continue u can bet on it. It's a bad move on SE's part to not let us know what is coming up in the future because that kinda on info is what will keep players around.

While i agree people need to be patient, the new team have not done anythin but words and promises so far.tweak and patches.

What do we need so people shut up ?A real update.How soon? well that depends on the dev team.I rather get somethin polished and engaging than more of the same unfinished garbage they have been feeding us since release.

Promises , letters , etc. Is just that , promises and letters.I think the complains are justified, but the complainers need to have patience , game wont magically fix itself.We definitely dont need more unfinished stuff in ffxiv.then again they need to hurry . We keep loosing people everyday.Time will tell.

In the last few days Mysidia has been what I would define actually crowded. So much that I had to restart "ambushing" the battlewarden as soon as it appeared to avoid being left out every single time, and it's hard to find a place to grind without competition.

I would say that the server population has at the very least stabilyzed, if it isn't actually increasing.

February 28: Letter from producer IV
March3: Letter from producer V and patch 1.16
March 7: Forums went live
March 11: Earthquake and tsunami hits Japan
March 13: Servers go down
March 16: Letter from producer VI
March 25: Servers back up
March 28: Patch 1.16a

The forums went live just 4 days before the disaster. So give them a freaking break. We even got a letter from the producer when the servers were offline. Three days after the servers were up we got a small patch. Next patch should hit somewhere next week. What the hell do you guys want, seriously. It is not like taking your dog out for a walk in the park this is game developing and it is obvious some of you guys have no clue how a company works.

We also learned the following (from letters or forum posts)
*They are working on the battle system changes and we should get more information about that this week.
*They are working on the maps (redesign) and character collision issues.
*Patch 1.17 was schedule to be released somewhere at the end of March, but was pushed back two weeks.
*Before patch 1.17 goes live we will have more information about companies.
*They are going to add a hide/show button for the aggro indicator.

The ONLY thing they didn't do is state EXACTLY what is in patch 1.17. Which is a good thing. They will release the patch notes when they think its ready for a release. Otherwise they might have to eat those patch notes if they can not make certain changes in time ... I rather have them promising nothing than promising stuff and not being able to deliver.

So the past month they did all the above things, so what else do you want them do? Is that really not enough information? It is almost as much or maybe even more communication Blizzard has with his players and it is 1000% more than we ever had in FFXI. So please stop acting so damn spoiled.

Ivar, we are not worried about Square-Enix's stability. We are worried that the MMO to which we want to devote most of our free time will never be revived. I find the whole idea of an MMO fascinating - that you're playing in an open world with thousands of other people doing their own thing. I don't want to commit hours of my week to an extremely low population MMO.

I want FFXIV to succeed, but I worry that it will miss its opportunity for media spotlight. There aren't more than 200 people logged into Besaid at any given time now... It's been 6 months and already we need to merge servers - and there's only 8 zones in this game...

Actually, I'm starting to doubt that. I see quite a few people that would probably be delighted if this game was actually abandoned.
If one says that he wants a game to succeed but yet he does *nothing* else than spouting negativity, looking for even the silliest and most out of line excuses to do that, the diagnosis is pretty clear.

And again, you didn't answer my question. How do you determine that "we're losing people everyday"?

By now most of the ones that wanted to quit pretty much did.
End of the line, if there's someone that actually *knows* what the server population trends are, it's not me, or you, and most definitely not the most negativity-ridden naysayers that very possibly haven't logged in in months. That's SE.
So I'm quite sure they don't need to be costantly reminded by people that have nothing more than educated guesses.

I really don't expect much, but I wouldn't mind a quick post about what to expect in a few weeks. Companies are nearly done from how it sounds and we still seem to have zero information. And while the battle system changes are up next it'd be nice to know what will be changed. The drop from 15 to 8 people max in a party? The advanced (traditional) classes? Making classes more unique? There's a ton of stuff that can be touched on when you say "battle adjustments" so it'd be a bit nice on what to expect.

Absolutely. I am not saying the game doesn't need BIG UPDATES and changes. I am just saying it is not going to happen in a day or two. It is also not going to happen in a week or two. It is going to take time. We complained about Square Enix rushing the release of Final Fantasy XIV and we were right. They rushed it, fucked it up and they even accepted their mistake.

Now they are trying to fix their mistake. New producer, new people at strategic spots in the development team. They promised us stuff. They told us to wait. They told us they are working on stuff. They asked our opinion and they said they will work on almost everything we said they should change.

However, all the people that said Square Enix rushed things now all of a sudden wants Square Enix to rush patches. Make up your freaking mind. If that disaster in Japan didn't happen we would have had patch 1.17 by now. Well it happened, get over it. They announced the events will push everything back for about two weeks. Patch 1.16a was scheduled to be released somewhere in the middle of March, instead it was released at the end of March. Patch 1.17 is pushed back to early April. What is the problem? I really do not see it.

I totally agree the game needs changed, the game needs updates, big ones, but hell why rush it while we were complaining for months and cursing Square Enix for rushing the release in the first place?

Agree, but all of that should be coming this week or next week. They stated we should get more battle information this week. They also stated information about companies should be released before patch 1.17 (which should be somewhere next week I assume). So all the information we want is already announced and it is coming our way. We just need to wait a little bit longer.

We are right in asking for changes. We are also right in asking more information. Don't get me wrong. However it is exactly like Abriael said. Some people are looking for even the silliest and most out of line excuses to open new threads and spread some negativity. If they really wanted FFXIV to succeed they would just wait and open constructive threads instead of the negative ones they are doing all the time.

There is a difference between
1) Battle system is not well thought. They need to look into this. They should changed A B and C and should make it D and E.

and

2) OMG ROFLCOPTERSAUCE patch 1.16a is so bad, SE should pull the plug already since the obviously suck donkey balls. Portal and Mortal Combat are going to steal thousands of people and the servers will be empty from now on.
