I did like the VA. They make the character sound more human than even many of the veteran VA's do their characters. They do give the proper inflection on the comedic parts. My issue is when Wuk has to yell or be angry. Like I feel the VA was a bit shy and didn't want to actually yell in the recording room or didn't want to sound too rageful like in the battles with Bakool jaja and Zoral Ja. In my opinion the VA should let themselves go a little bit more in those parts.

Ok I just went through the final trial for a second time with my friend. He's running the EN dubs and I'm running the JP dubs.

He was streaming the MSQ for me and he didn't end the stream for the trial so, I had both voice actress going "Spheeeenee listen to meeeh!" in both languages...

To say it was a difference of day and night it's underselling it.

Shimoyamada Ayaka seriously put heart and soul in it.

Big kudos to her.

The voice acting was bad before and after we knew she was trans and it never mattered to begin with. It was just a defense to call out the white knights who watch too much msnbc and menopausing women watching the view.

All that matters is the performance and both it and the directing, which were both done by sweet baby inc, were bad.

Sweet Baby Ink has 16 Employees overal its not sometking of super firm influencing half of the game industry @.@
And no FF14 is not on there portfolio and being part of on of the biggest MMORPG on the Planet certainly would be there.

In general there job if hired is only to do suggestions and recomendations nothing more nothing more or less.

I find Niche Gamer to be a mostly reliable source, though they will admit to pulling back on some opinion pieces because of contact in the games industry threating to cut them off from stuff.

This really just feels like a weird ploy to not put the blame fully on SE for a localization issue that theyve always had - now coming to a head. Even with your walkback.

Bar none, SE screwed up bigtime - and it wasnt just with Wuk Lamat. The vocal direction for a number of characters is all over the place, Wuk Lamat being the most noticeable.

The performance was serviceable for the most part. As the character with the most dialogue in DT, there were very few standout moments in terms of line delivery.

Unfortunately, the VA's weakness was shown multiple times throughout the story. In lines that require emotion and projection. Outside of one specific instance where I believed the performance was well-done, each scene that required the aforementioned skills were found lacking.

It wouldn't have saved the story at all, but Wuk Lamat's EN voice definitely could have benefitted from a better/more experienced VA.

People also deflect and say no it was just the direction or the writing.
But no it was all of it, including the voice acting. The writing was bad, the voice directing was bad, and the voice acting was bad.

I like to remind people that dislike of Wuk Lamat is not a "objective truth" same goes for the like or dislike for most characters.
Like most people i know did like DT and Wuk Lamat and most of those play the game in English. The enjoyment of certain characters is very subjective at the end.

For exmple I personaly disliked Zenos and would have been happy with him gone after his original defeat.
Or maybe more relatable for many Forum goers, The Twins Alphinaud and Alisaie are super popular and still have plenty of people here that dont like them.
At the end its personal preferences.

As a german who plays the game in german (a lot play on english in my experience) i can tell you it was a pleasant surprise for me aswell.
Ususaly the german voice actors feel very restrained in emotional delivery but damn Lamati`s Voice Actress, there was fire behind it.

The German and Japanese ones sounded good, like they both really want Zoraal Ja's head to roll. French one sounded clean delivery wise, and I can certainly feel the emotion behind what is being said in the voice, but like the English one it kind of feels like it was "screamed in lowercase" and missed the expected "impact" like the German/Japanese versions had when delivering the lines. Maybe it's just because the French one sounded a bit "quiet" to me in this instance.

Japanese and German were really good.

English was alright to good when talking normally, painfully bad when range was needed.
