Though yeah, people used to send death threats over it. So you're not wrong. But it's still huge lol.

Oh, don't take me wrong, it *is* still huge.
It just diminished. Some years ago, I wouldn't even DARE to type in the Forums, even less about anything negative towards Shadowbringers as I did.
It used to be genuine social suicide that used to lead to persecution in the game *and* to your entire social circle, as if they had any guilt for someone not enjoying the same content as another.
Crazy how, in a game that starts off and almost immediately hits you with the plot point of 'you can get 'tempered' by deity-esque figures, causing you to become fanatically obsessed with them, and making 'convert more people into thralls like yourself' the only thing that occupies your mind'
...there exists an alarming number of players that, the writing they so fervently revere is entirely lost upon them. Do they not realize that they are acting like they've been 'tempered' by the game itself?
Hot take:
MSQ Skipping > EN dub
At least MSQ skippers will probably go on to do Savage/Ultimate
I always find it funny when people sign up for a game who advertises themselves with one of the best stories in MMOS then they whine about Msq being mandatory... I think shaming story skippers only exist because these people are trying their hardest to change the game into something soulless and shallow, just because they do not like to sit and read, they rather sit and be sweaty. Shaming is only a response to those who shame casuals for not raiding or having the highest parse. And plus... A hardcore raider who skips Msq have basically nothing in common with a casual who just enjoys the game for what it is. Therefore there will always be sourness from both sides.
Nah I'm gonna continue to shame people who ignore the only good part of the game in favor of the parts that every other game in the genre does better. One way or another, they need better taste in video games.
I love this game. Endwalker was life-changing for me on a personal level. However, having to spend dozens of hours reading is too big of an ask at this point. Its only one of the best stories if you can suffer through days worth of low-points.
Really hoping they make some improvements when evercold comes out. The amount of standing and reading vs actual gameplay through MSQ is killing the game
I've probably said it once, but it bears repeating potentially.
They need to start separating out certain content from the MSQ..
I say this as a story enjoyer too..
I really don't care, I don't think story should be as big of a barrier as what it is with people starting and picking up the game.. The game should be an MMORPG first and foremost... The MMO component has been lost a really long time, and the RPG component is almost entirely player curated.
There are so many people that drop the game because of this, and it is an issue, it's an issue that is largely on the development side, to be honest.
This is like me going to Church for the music and snacks whilst complaining about how much I hate the Bible.
If you're surrounded by people who love the story, stop "yucking their yum" with your unnecessary opinion. If you're asked, great. Otherwise, just play and enjoy the game in peace.
That being said, anyone hating on someone for not liking whatever they like is an idiot.
You're asking too much from the "award winning community" to be more accepting of people with different tastes not even asking for change, only acceptance.
Meanwhile all hail the savage raider streamers who care nothing for story or the normal content and want it all removed,
and all hail the visual novel players who care only for the story and want all gameplay removed.
The writing is serviceable and steadily declining; if you think this is peak writing please read a book. There's no need to make a fuss over people not caring for it, they're really not missing out on much.
On the other hand I can't imagine why anyone only interested in raids would choose this game. There's not much, it's locked behind hours and hours of dialogue + lockouts and the combat system is ok but gets stale quickly. There's gotta be something catered more towards them. Same for PvP fans.
