Male viera is not required for enjoying the game. I will ask this again - if they would change WAR sounds to dagger would you also say we should accept it? Gunblades now literally have club sound effects. Majority demands changes. I'm not going anywhere. Devs keep getting away with all bad decisions. This thing cannot be accepted.
is not the same thing like male vieras, male vieras + female ronso will represent a extra load of work for the dev team on gear modeling and head adaptation until the game dies while GNB sounds just need to be done 1 time and move on, it's not so hard to do and the effort will be worthy if they do it properly, heck we are asking to go back only on the old main combo sounds as a alternative witch is already work done, they are just for some reason ignoring us as we know for now.
Fixing only main combo won't solve all problems they have created. They downgraded every action that got changed. Original main combo has very slashy sounds (as it should be), new cartridge combo has barely any slashes and explosions are very loud and sloppy. Basically it would be even more incoherent than now. It's like using a blade and then drawing out a cannon.
They either have to rollback to 5.0 or create new sound effects from scratch. There is no other proper solution.
Still supporting this thread, really want to hear my main job again :p
don't get me wrong i would love a new proper revamp of all GNB sounds based on the original ones but with more impactful explosions as it was requested but i personally don't expect anything from the devs at this point and if they do something they will do the bare minimun as usual, why do you think i only request a delirium rework instead of full ajustments for DRK gameplay? bcs i have literally no hope and no trust on they work after years of deterioration of the tank role and DRK gameplay and i just ask to something that will make the job playable for me with a small price of a skill that nobody loves, i will keep fighting to get what the jobs deserve bcs i love the game and i want the tanks to be great again but meaby im just tired to see them whatever they want with out feedback instead of doing what they should.
The difference between this issue with GNB vs the male Viera fiasco is that the GNB sounds were already in the game. Male Viera were never intended to be added. Gunbreaker felt like an amazing class at launch, I massively enjoyed it. I was going to have it as my main class and was even considering getting into tanking for raid content because I enjoyed the aesthetic of the class so much. I haven't touched the class since not long after they changed the audio. I tried, but the new audio just made me angry because everything is thwack and boom.
Most of us were ingame actually, ya know, enjoying Shadowbringers and having fun. I wasn't even aware that folks complained about the class until I came to investigate what the hell happened. So a tiny minority of some headasses complained, no one was able to dispute these complaints because quite frankly we had no complaints and were not aware there even was any.
Now that we've been petitioning for months, had a lot of support for reversal of this dumb change, and have been very vocal in our displeasure; we get absolutely no feedback. I am definitely going to complain about some arbitrary class feature for 6.0 and whine about it week one, since that seems to be the most effective way to get anything done.
Shadowbringers has had a great MSQ, great music, locations and dungeons. I absolutely adore it, and it's why I'm so upset about this whole thing, as it was enough to seriously detract from everything great.
This is EXACTLY how I feel. Well said. I had never tanked before, but GNB was going to be the job that I used to try out that role after I finished the MSQ as RDM. However, this audio change happened just as I was finishing and I had to change my plans because I just couldn't stand how it sounded. It ruined the entire appeal of the job for me and actually made me so sad that I lost some motivation to log in to the game at all for a short time. I was dumbfounded that they so radically adjusted the sounds based on some extremely early feedback only two weeks into the release. It was unprecedented. I've been supporting and watching this thread since the beginning, but it's starting to seem hopeless.
I absolutely understand your point, but this is slightly different situation.
They obviously won't rework the job now risking turning it into something even worse, so asking for smaller change is wise.
With GNB sfx they downgraded them without any real reason. We have all rights to be demanding here. It was really high quality before, i expect it to be fitting and high quality now.
indeed, while im not going to aim for something big i would love to point how WAR get a full rework on 4.2 same how ninja get a extensive rework on 5.1 too, viable is, they can do if they want to, the risk is none since more simple the job can't be but is not the same of what we are discussing here indeed, i notice i diverting my self a bit sorry, but yeah there is no reason why with a few post they make this rework on GNB sounds and after few big threads with lot's of support requesting being back or get something better is ignored.
I, too, would like to reinstate my vote for a reversal/readjustment of the current GNB sounds. While I still play the job, the original sounds were one of the job aspects that I admired the most, and I still feel disappointment when I compare them.
Could there be any chance of a change tonight, or is this just a patch to enable the Ishgard Restoration?
#fixGNBsfx is slowly gaining new users. I suggest joining there. Let's show them that ignoring the issues is not solving them.
Not gonna lie, was out of town for a week and really hoped the sounds would be miraculously fixed. I have had probably the hardest and most depressing week of my life. Woulda been nice to know it wasn't all bad when I got back.
Also, I too was expecting the Gunblade job to be more akin to a dps. Initially I was hoping Blue mage would be a magic tank (absorbs hits/elements, dishes them back out as damage depending on elements absorbed), dancer healer (a healer that uses consecutive combo GCD's instead of casts, like a melee job but with healing), and a gunblader job, (probably no reason to add another melee dps but... it clearly seemed proper as a melee dps). In the end, I was glad it was a tank because I love tanking as my main anyways, but I would've kept to it regardless of the role.... The sounds however, really kicked me in the groin they changed it only 3 weeks into a new expansion. Not even getting other opinions on it or leaving it to be like they are these... I really don't understand their thinking on this. I still to this day prefer the original sounds over these we have now. The ONLY exception, being Fated Circle at this point.
Still sending in tickets, praying they at least give u some answer, even if it's "no".
I've mainly been posting on twitter, but I'll make sure to send it tickets ingame as well.
Hard to not be in "learned helplessness" mode about this.
The way they develop this game is weird. Normal studio would take as many attempts as necessary to create sound effects of acceptable quality. Here they just tried once to adjust it, absolutely failed, and now they pretend there is no problem. And it's not hard to notice it sounds like a blunt object now.
It's P2P MMORPG from AAA studio and i'm starting to feel like i'm playing some cheap F2P (and funny thing is F2P games handle it better). I have issues with some other jobs, but i can't focus everything. Here fix is obvious and easy.
I'm still sending them in-game suggestions and i'm active on twitter. Even if we fail, we at least send them message that we remember.
I slightly suspect that it may be an issue of community manager and developer disconnect. Like when you send in suggestions ingame, it says that the info would be passed along to the devs if the suggestion was relevant. I could completely see the ingame GMs just going "the 5.01 sounds are perfect" and just deleting the suggestions. Same with whoever manages the twitter account or whatever. Developers could probably have no idea that there's any pushback at all, unless they personally take the time to inspect the forums. And given that these are the English language forums, I find it extremely unlikely.
But that's just me and my conspiracy theory hat, I guess.
I keep going back to the job actions video, and good lord, brutal shell/solid barrel/wicked talon were all perfect and then brutally murdered in 5.01. Couldn't get any better than the satisfaction of that click at the end of solid barrel, or the impact of the blade striking rapidly during wicked talon. RIP
New blasting zone is...okay. Old one was better, but at least the new one still carries some of the old impact.
I won't confirm or deny there's now released a mod that gives us a combination of those sound effects... but it sure sounds nice, if you were to look around a mod based discord I'm sure.
cough
It's sad to see that we have reached the point that modders have to fix the game for the devs.
But we are not giving up. It should be fixed on the server side.
Lol, when the comunity gets what they really wanted by his own hand, lovely, i wish every problem could be solved with mods.
Problem is this is not real solution. When they add new actions in 6.0 it will be mix of club and blade.
We need to keep up the pressure, otherwise they will see that there is no need to bother with anything if modders can fix it anyway.
While I cannot condone the use of mods, and recommend that no one ever does so, I am curious how such was achieved and if there might be hope for a complete 5.0 sound set. For education purposes only, of course. It's ridiculous that folks have to resort to such methods to enjoy the class as it was presented in reveal and job trailers.
If I had to guess, I'm fairly sure the potential author of this potential mod made it that way because he liked one or two of the new sounds better than the old ones, and probably tried to make a "perfect mix" between the old ones and the new ones. As for if it's possible to make a complete 5.0 sound set, the answer is most likely yes, and there may or may not be one that is planned already.
*cough cough*
EDIT: I also totally agree that we need to keep up the pressure, I am usually against mods but the new sound effects completely ruined the class for me which made me resort to that, but I indeed won't be able to do anything if the 6.0 sounds are more "club" sounding so we definitely have to show them that a large majority of Gunbreaker players wants the old sounds back.
Nope, that honor goes to another poster for just being a very smart theorist and nothing more clearly. Just gonna quote his brilliance as a reference.
I absolutely agree, they should at least respond to the crowd that's been in an uproar about this. This is only a band-aid on the real issue, even though it's a pretty dang nice band-aid this supposed author (which I'm convinced you're not him of course) has made. It is even possible they'll delay all of this until 6.0 and decide to rework all the sounds altogether...at least, that would be a hope if we don't get any word by then... WHICH I WOULD HOPE WE DO BECAUSE JFC SQUARE ENIX, WHAT DOES IT TAKE? If a 1-3 individuals can make this type of adjustment in less than a week, why cant you read this and do the same in months? =.= Makes me want to tear my hair out.
Having reviewed the audio files through a third party, the blend of old sfx with the new explosions actually sounds great together. I most certainly won't be using the supposed modification, but I can confirm through a third party that it's a vast improvement over the sfx we currently have available. Explosions aren't drowned out by dull blunt sounds.
I am absolutely going to keep petitioning them to fix the audio. It shouldn't have to fall on the players to fix what was promised to them (and taken away within two weeks.)
This isn't Bethesda softworks. I'll keep advocating every chance I get.
Oh yeah the black flames on the feet, years asking for a proper darkside aura with flames and edgy stuff and still we don't get it, even now they don't have any excuse since darkside is not a 100% stance anymore, i hope GNB never gets those leves of being ignored and gutted.
Also our next update is just BLU level cap and PVP Nadaam right?.... Maybe they'll do something for their sounds this patch? I mean what else could they have to add this next patch aside from those two minor bits of this game? Like many people even play BLU and like pvp is the main hype behind FFXIV... I mean I enjoy pvp but I can't see these two small editions being just it.
Last patch was just firament and Alexander ultimate, so probably not. I thought this maintenance was just hotfixes for this coming Tuesday?
What exsactly did they change? I havn't noticed any change to gunbreaker, but then again, last i played it was when 5.0 just released.

Hopefully these videos can help elucidate the primary reason for so much grief.
Yeah, i just gave the job another try after finnishing drk to 80, gnb is next on my list and good god.... wth are those sounds lol, sounds like your whipping the monsters with a stick or something... 5.0 was good, didn't need fixing, skills had a good pew to them, now they are just lame.
I tweeted Very Merri I think, I wonder if he knows lol.
Slap a like on this.

I did, that's a very good question/post too. Doesn't sound threatening or rude or biased, just like a genuine question.
