Now, the reverse is true, and it's as if any and every little thing is instanced for no reason. So that seems like false advertising.
I think the player poll question "would you like to see drastic changes to the game world" was purposely and sufficiently brief and vague so they could get a unanimous "yes" from the playerbase and bypass false-advertisement laws.
Instancing the gameworld seems like a pretty sweeping change which wasn't really ever suggested to the playerbase beforehand. And it really does fundamentally alter everything about FFXIV and flies in the face of the concept of MMOs in general. So I think they do need a player poll, or at the very least, they need to go back in time and give us one back when they could have still listened to feedback. Now it's probably too late.
