The irony is that someones already created a work around for the cap meaning if it was being used for exploits then it's not going to stop it. All it's doing now is ruining genuine players from enjoying the game the way they're used to.

The problem many of you, "It's okay for me" are ignoring is that this frame limiter implementation is causing people to crash. (It was for me until I found an unnecessary work-around.) I'm not just talking about "lag out crashes" just random dx11 crashes and more. So yes, they should revert the changes. They've essentially created a problem for themselves.
SE needs to undo this change ASAP.
I've been crashing constantly because of DX11 errors.
Seriously SE, we are in 2019. 144hz aren't considered luxury and rare anymore, a lot of people use 144hz.
So many ignorant people here.
It's 2019 and yes there are now monitors up to 200Hz, and yes there are also people who buy & use these monitors.
Not to mention they had unlimited option, they removed it...
Please revert this immediately. I have a 144 monitor and can definitely feel the difference. This is absurd.
90 fps limiter is there to prevent you from wasting electricity and run your pc cooler.
Multiply a 20 or 60 w of energy by 1 million its a lot :p
30 pages worth of people crashing due to this in the technical forum and it still isn't being considered a 'known issue'...
Perhaps the hard cap isn't just on frame rate but also on listening to players.
No crashing here at all.
1080ti , 5960x ,32" 1440p 144hz Gsync Monitor .
Hell i didnt even notice the 90 fps cap at all until someone mentioned it...game is just as smooth as it was before the cap.
There's actually an accepted bug now on the tech forum that 144hz isn't available. I honestly can see this change being reverted or changed at least to something more realistic, capping FPS at such a low level to begin with has done nothing but cause questions to be asked namely "why?" to which so far has been radio silence. Maybe they'll just remove this unwanted cap and be done with the issue expecially since it's causing problems for people.
30fps is legit playing, 60fps is great playing, anything more is awesome playing. You are awesome but don't talk trash to who isn't as awesome as you.Quote:
...capping FPS at such a low level...
Meanwhile I've never played anything above 60fps other than an arcade machine. I remember when 30fps was the most amazing thing on the DC!
I get it. People should be free to have unlimited FPS. Especially as hardware gets more powerful over time.
I will say though, that for me, running at 60FPS on mostly max settings = 80C temps... so I'm not going to 90FPS and 90C and wrecking my machine, let alone unlimited.
Meanwhile I can pull over 144fps at 36c because my setup is watercooled. I should not be penalized for your issue if that is the reason this cap was put in place. If the cap was put in place because of cheating, well that is just moronic. People had a day 1 patch/hack to get around it. Its just like invasive DRM that publisher ship in their games. It only hurts the legit players/customers.
What is even more baffling is that SE went double dumb on how they implemented it. Not only did they cap the engine frame output to 90 fps, the real serious issue they created was how they handle monitor resolutions. It appears as though the game checks the list of reported resolutions and refresh rates from the monitor/display driver, checks for any refresh rates equal to or lower then 90hz and throws everything else out. This is a serious issue for monitors that don't expose all of their display modes like laptop screens, and Gsync/Free sync monitors that need to sync properly to work.
Why on earth they didn't just lock the engine output and leave refresh rates working properly is beyond me. Any modern game with even half competent developers allow full refresh rate with 30/60 fps caps in console ports. SE has created a massive issue for a lot of people, myself included using Gsync. This change needs to be rolled back or properly implemented. 90fps is fine. Don't touch the refresh rates. Get rid of the 1/1 1/2 1/3 options if you need to.
VanGoghComplex is correct. Modern CPUs and graphics cards will simply throttle themselves rather than commit suicide from overheating.
To be fair 60FPS is bare minimum at FHD, Standard would be 120/144 QHD, high end is 240FPS at FHD, 120/144 WQHD or 4k 120 FPS (that last version is like nearly €2000 for the Monitor and at least 1100 for a good 2080TI and 2 would be a good idea for FFXIV since it supports SLI/NVlink).
They explained this, botters were using high fps to speedhack through solid objects.
Now you all look like botters. GG.
Could you perhaps supply a source on that? Curious to see where SE said it; everywhere I've seen it referenced it's at "rumor" status.
I've also read that the techniques botters actually use rely on incredibly low framerates, not high ones. In any case, as others have pointed out, this is easily bypassed and you be know botters will have no scruples about doing so.
What we look like are people who worked hard to pay for our high-end gaming rigs and have enjoyed them playing FFXIV for years, only to have the client crippled by a poor decision on SE's part.
The visual fidelity of my game is far more important to me than a stable ingame economy.
I would just like an official response that if i use the patch to get unlimited frames that i won't get banned for it also would love to know the reason for this cap in the 1st place.
going from 180-200fps down to 90 is a big deal.
So far, we do still don't know why the 90fps limit? I did read as measure against bots but nothing official.
I've yet to see any source for this, in fact the ONLY info so far is a vague translation off the twitch stream patchnotes reading about some people threatening to sue SE for melting their system's (FFXIV can run really hot at max performance) being behind this somewhat. We've had no official statement or reasoning for this. It's also a bad way of stopping cheater's IF it's even related to it because this change degrades performance for people for no reason and others WILL use the ddl workaround to restore a function they've had for 6 YEARS. The last thing SE would want to do is ban legitimate players unintentionally who are only using fixes to be able to play the game properly.
This change ultimately needs to be removed as I've said before 90hz is way too low the standard nowadays is in the 144hz range for PC gaming and this change has hurt legitimate players.
If really the change was to stop botting, I can understand why an issue that touch 0,1% of people got a Zergillion posts in forum of people that want it removed.
I agree on this, if your building a high end PC one of the most important thing's is to check your temperature's to make sure you've enough cooling. The problem though is there's too many people who will try suing for shady reasons and don't take responsibility.
If you think 0.1% of people have displays with >90hz refresh rates, please take my hand and I will kindly guide you out of the year 2010 and into the year 2019.
60hz is quickly falling by the wayside. High refresh rates are so common that even low to mid-range gaming laptops are being sold with them preinstalled.
Looks like good news in anyways. Can understand they don't want people falling through the floor of course but the FPS cap actually causes more problems. I play at high FPS but have never experienced any fall through or glitches. At least they'll revert this and try another approach now.
