I just wanted to add that I really love this idea and think it should be considered.
I had a lot of friends who missed out on getting a house. I would love to see them get that opportunity next patch. I wish a permanent solution was found, but I understand that there are limitations and drawbacks with the setup for housing FFXIV has. I look forward to hearing the ideas you have implemented for rolling out the next opportunity for housing.
Thank you for listening to us :D I don't see the words "a few add wards" so happy will more wards adds than 30th! my dream is come true!
i would open up the idea for apartments to be able to upgrade their rooms to have an outdoor personal space to have for their own gardening and mini outdoor decorations, and the option to upgrade the room to have a personal workshop access.
it will give the choice to people who want the content, or want a full house.
plus this will give more utility and demand for apartments and you will see more people in these areas too
apartments with option to add 2 additional content rooms? winning for everyone
and a cheaper solution for people to get into end game materials removing a big gil cost for newer or less wealthy people
Look, i get that you were going for that neighborhood appeal, but this lack of housing is insane. Although i love FFXIV, the personal housing in this game is terrible. The best housing system i have played in an MMO comes from EQ2. I would suggest you check it out. The have neighborhoods. You can own as many houses as you want -and so can EVERYONE else - people can visit. All your alts can be apart of all of your houses and you can have like 10 tenants with full access to your home. Even the apartments have places to grow plants. Some even have patios. And storage abilities are awesome. Shared spaces for you and your alts. They even have separate Guild Halls specifically for Guilds. Although they don't have private chambers and i think that is awesome in this game. I don't see why instancing them is such a big deal when in realty they already are. click on the door and pop into your attached Guild Hall or house.
A large group of my in-game friends had this crazy plan to all try to buy into the same ward in Shirogane. We drew up a map, and planned out who was going to run where when it opened so that we weren't competing with each other, because, imagine this, we wanted to be neighbors in-game! Of my 30 friends who planned to buy in the main division of Ward 9 on my server, only seven of us actually got houses there, and this on Brynhildr, the littlest of servers, with a far better outcome than most people (I'm sure) who tried the same thing.
I would LOVE to see some feature that made it easier for us to accomplish this. For example, if an FC could buy a WARD, I would have paid through the NOSE to secure those plots. Name a price, I would have paid it. We have a couple of people whose personal houses are in the same ward as one another's, and it's fun and awesome to tour each other's housing. There's something special about going across the street to your friend's house.
At this point, I hope he'll just make 500 wards so that this will never be brought up again for a long time.
Thank you for listening to us and giving us a response Yoshi-P! ♡
I thought I was losing faith by seeing no devs reply to any of the housing issues..... but for Yoshi to give an announcement now... I think I have some hope of getting a house in 4.2. THANK YOU, YOSHI!
It should have been instanced housing from the start. It would have been less of a mess that we see now, people would have a goal to work toward, and no one would feel they were being treated unfairly. We've all said how the current system is broken and doesn't work. Adding more wards will never fix the issue. Unless it is instanced then you need to limit how many houses a person can own because then they will end up being an entire ward like two certain people on a new server.
I am honestly so happy to hear this I could cry. Thank you. /sniff
They're withholding details to prevent speculation, maybe I'm wrong but wouldn't that actually create speculation?
@Naoki_Yoshida a member of a discord im on by the name of Tzevaeot stated something very interesting. If all the plots in the housing district where made to construct any size house then it would cut down on alot of the mad rush. for instance if i walked to a plot and had a choice to purchase a large, medium, or small house then i wouldnt need to try and mad rush to one particular area. the only issue that would stand now would be the amount of plots available to the player server count. Why cant we choose the size house we want to build and pay the price for that size instead of having to take whats available?
Thanks so much Yoshi, now my fc got a bit hope! We got a medium house on levender beds since Arr but we want to move to a large one to shirogane, I don't have a house but I personally want my fc have it cause our rooms are full and some of our members are homeless and they don't want an apartment. Hope we can get our dream house in 4.2
I hope they don't change it to one house per account. My server is very small, and it would mean my alt's house as well as some friends in the Goblet (place is really empty) would be taken away.
The real problem is these bots who re-sell plots on RMT sites :\ If those bots get removed instead, it would help a great deal.
Fyi I just have an apartment in Shirogane and never attempted to get a house and won't.
Relocation services should be offered on mogstation or housing menu. Restyle all current areas. Layouts is the same but new textures and features exclusive to each housing (swimming, diving, boats and fish in Mist, fireworks or nightly feasts/parties in Goblet more dancing Npcs, a complete rework of Lavender Beds, wouldn’t mind it becoming a place where lots of cute minions errr animals you can /pet).
Limit housing to 1 personal per account. FC housing should go through mogstation and can only be bought with a FC made up of a limit of max level characters and officers (max being at least 6-8 jobs maxed out on levels with certain amounts of war, magic, land and hand) so no level 1 mules.
Always revamp housing areas every release never ever announce all the details on changes. If you keep things a surprise, people will not always look for new housing as they may wait and see what new surprises are in store for older areas.
here's the thing we knew that plots were limited. We SHOULD have had time. I was in Shiro by 6:04 am and server live was 6:02 that's two minutes for it to just be gone on a med pop server I had the foresight to send someone to the Mists and told him to watch for ANY plots because I was already panicking. I had nightmares about what happened that morning for two days & in those we wound up with nothing. We were lucky & got our FC house & I managed to snag a personal house in the same ward & close by. We didn't want a small, but we got something at all, which is more than most & I'm thrilled we did. They've had years of this same issue & done nothing but release more housing on the same model, knowing it makes for an elitist bragging rights system & feeds the gilseller market, until this post today, they seemed to want it that way. I look forward to seeing it change to make things better for us all.
I don't think he doesn't know what he's doing, I think they knew and have always known. Why they listened this time when you can google the same outrage with EVERY housing release they've ever done for years, we may never know. Be glad they at least admit it's broken, looking back on previous posts that's a step further than we've gotten in the past. Perhaps they will fix it this time.
Small house yards are too small and there is a ridiculous restriction on number of outdoor items for all the sizes (20-40.) My GF and I bought large plots simply to have the max outdoor limit (40) - we have had a FC Mansion for almost 2 years for all of our alts since you can not share houses with your own alts and have barely even decorated the inside... If they doubled or tripled the outdoor limit, I could probably survive with a medium plot...maybe.
A simple doubling of each residential district would be insufficient. With the current demand for housing, it would need to be quadrupled (at minimum). A hard cap on number of homes owned per account is also worth examining.
While our thanks are given on the issue being addressed.. it is hardly a NEW issue. Chronic lack of housing has existed for years, and it should not take the opening of a new residential zone and its resultant feedback to bring it to SE's attention.
I just want to say that I would be more than willing to purchase a permenant house from the MogStation.
I know that is not a popular suggestion, but I am understanding of the work and cost associated with development and am ok with paying for such things.
I'd also like to suggest maybe Mogstation exclusive / premium wards. They could be permenantly linked to accounts like retainers.
For those willing to pay for such, it would literally be no different than purchasing housing or previous seasonal event items.
I'm open to anything. I do currently have a house, but it was settled for due to unavailabity elsewhere and I am personally in favor of paying in MogStation if it becomes an option.
Sweet, house flippers will get more houses to flip! Woot?
I hope I am too. I dislike the secrecy in the planned changes but I suspect that's more to do with them trying to decide 100% what to do. I am fully behind the 1 fc house &1 personal house limit per account but if they do that, they need to make it so we can account link them for real to our alts, meaning a realistic befriending system that doesn't require you be online to get the add request, letting us then mail things (the horror) to our alts. I don't see that happening

Looking back on previous posts I couldn't find any posts with even remotely near the same unification that we've had over the past couple of days. More subscribers, more disparity between the numbers involved, more reports of TOS breaking activity...
To put it simply, are we just significantly louder now?
*begin rant*
I think there should be some sort of wait list. Say you want a large house, you select large as your preferred house and get some sort of notification that there is one available and you have so many days to purchase it or pass (in case the one available isn’t the one you wanted). If you don’t respond by purchasing or selecting pass then you are either removed from the wait list or moved to the bottom of the list. This in my opinion would almost completely stop the selling of plots.
And for sure there needs to be a limit, 1 per account per server. Make it so your account is registered to the plot and all characters from the account can access it.
Could also make the ward instanced in a way where all the worlds of a data center can load into the same ward. Would expand on the cross world features.
Please don’t keep us in the dark so that we can let you know if an idea is dumb or smart.

You can't just add more wards and call it a day! It's Fundamentally Broken and you're going to be doing this EVERY TIME
Auto Generate wards when they fill. Lotro did this a decade ago. This is the only answer. Don't let people buy more than one personal plot. Don't let FCs buy more than one plot. You're going to have to release an apology and add more wards like every time there's a patch if you don't do this.

Thanks for this post Mr. Yoshi P. San
A randomly determined delay from plot relinquishment until it is availble to purchase again would really put a damper on reselling houses without just selling FC's...
But, it's not just a 'we're adding more wards' post...
He said they're looking into improvements.
Wrong type of speculation I assume....
The speculation intended would be like, trade speculation.
Where they use knowledge of what's changing to profit off the changes intentionally.
Housing should go account bound instead of per character.
This still won’t resolve anything. Another 200 players may get housing and they’ll all be gone in minutes.
Just keep free company houses to the wards and make personal houses single instances so every player can buy one.
Also make apartments upgradable in size. Don’t separate them in size though, then all the large ones will be taken. Let players upgrade so everyone with any size apartment can still get a large one in time.
Thanks for the response. I hope that you and the development team sincerely consider a more lasting solution that dynamically adds houses when the need is there rather than a band-aide solution of just adding a few more wards to each housing area. Please see my full proposal here: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...mes-to-housing
The game is ever growing (a great problem to have) and the community loves and enjoys the social aspects of the game such as housing, a feature that should be made available to as many players as possible while still feeling like an accomplishment in your journey through Eorzea.
While I'm disappointed the solution will probably revolve around the addition of yet more wards, I'm very happy the issue is being addressed and that they're letting us know they're working on it. :)
Fully agree with Axiom (post #274), though. If the idea behind wards was to form "neighborhoods", then leaving the wards for FCs and implementing instanced personal housing would work best, I think, since they naturally have more players gravitating toward them (not counting single player FCs, of course). Not sure about apartments, but if instanced housing was ever implemented it being upgradable would be awesome.
I have to agree with what others are saying about people only being able to only have one personal house per account. Not everyone is a multi gililionare in this game =/
The time delay in housing release will only cause us to relive Christmas Day 2015. The first time the auto-demolish timer happened. Hundreds of players, gather around the wards / city aetheryte doing nothing but checking the wards continuously for when it becomes available. The only improvement this provides is that at least people will be logged in vs stuck in login queue.
