[Request] Please Suspend Housing Demolition for NA

A big thank you to OP for raising this concern, Yoshi-P for answering and the many others who show support and/or escalated this thread to Yoshi-P! Here's hoping the people who got affected will be able to make recovery asap and the rest to remain safe and sound. :3

This request was granted. Victims of the hurricanes can breathe easier knowing their virtual homes are safe at least :)

People can also rest assured that Square Enix listens to our every post :P

Agreed, the system existing is fine, the timer is too short for any real life situation, even situations aside natural disasters, with a longer timer they wouldn't have to suspend auto demolition at all, no one would have to risk their account asking others to login for them.

They said the 2 weeks are just a start, and intend to look over it later to see if it needs an extension.

I was saying that standard timer of 1 month is too short and it should be 3 months, not that the pause on the timer is too short.n__n; 1 month leaves absolutely no wiggle room; either you're an avid player and you get a house or you have life obligations that keep you from the game for a month every now and then and you don't, that's basically how it is right now. What about when illness strikes? What about if you have to go abroad for work or school? What if a loved one dies and you want to take a month to grieve? What if there is a natural disaster? Does SE expect us to beg them every time there's a disaster, "Please pause the timer!"?? It's unrealistic and they aren't going to do it for every disaster, I'm sure. So some people will be SoL. 3 months would be more appropriate as the standard timer, imho. Especially considering that the vast majority of players from my understanding are adults with responsibilities.

I'm sure adults with responsibilities DO have other things on their mind. Doesn't mean that they wouldn't also enjoy something nice on ffxiv, which I'm sure is one of the few things they get to do for enjoyment. I'm glad to know that you either will never have responsibilities to keep you from the game every now and then or that you wouldn't care at all if you spent a lot of time trying to buy something expensive like a house, waited months for one to free up and then lost it because you got sick for a month or something.

Jeez, some of you people. Just because real life is more important doesn't mean you can't also want to enjoy a game. 45 days is NOT plenty of time, if it was then they wouldn't need to be pausing the timer after disasters. Which by the way, happen all the time to people everywhere. Way more often than just the two times they happened to actually pause the timer.

Most of the people playing dont have a house and they are still enjoying the game So you dont need a house for that ;).

That's the risk you take with housing. Blame the people who bought a house day one and left the game for a long time. That's why this systeem is here and that everybody get the chance to get one.

Yes, it's possible to enjoy the game without a house. But it adds to it for many; if it didn't then no one would want it in the first place. You say you have a house but would enjoy the game without it... then why don't you just give it up? Why did you bother getting it in the first place? Must be that it brings some extra enjoyment to the game..? Maybe?

The system is necessary; I never said otherwise. I'm saying that a bit of extra time can prevent these kind of issues. SE needing to pause the timer, people arguing over if it's justified to do it and when a disaster is enough to warrant it, etc We are all at risk of having something outside of our control pulling us away from the game for a bit. Why should we lose something we spent a lot of time on (saving up, stalking plots, getting furnishing, etc) just because SE's housing system is ridiculous? Granted, if we're away for more than 3 months. Okay, you're not actively playing. Fine. If you aren't actively playing then yes, I agree you shouldn't be able to keep your house. But having a little wiggle room for people who DO play regularly but just happen to have something pop up is not unreasonable.

And just to put it out there: I don't have a house and I don't plan on getting one for myself because I don't want to invest in something that I may lose if life creeps up on me. (But I have been helping my friends get housing. I always tell them when land opens up, etc) But I have enough gil that I may get a small house since it's a drop in the bucket to me if I lose it. Still deciding. But it's sad that I have to decide this at all; I've been playing since ARR beta. Clearly I am not going anywhere. But I've had a few months over all these years where I couldn't afford the sub or for example when I moved to Japan and didn't have internet for a month and a half. If they at least gave us 3 months and I still managed to lose my house then I would be okay with that and accept it. But 45 days is just crazy. Perhaps if there could be some system where if you have actively stepped into your house for the past 6 months then you can gain a 3 month grace period or something like that then I would support it.

I am not really offended by anything you said ;). Yea , it's problem in a game so kinda not important.

I have a house to have a place of my own. I play solo 99% of the time. To chill and relax. Lucky for me I have a nice neighbour. Wil I miss it ? Maybe a little , but a new house owner wil have fun with the open spot :).

I get what you mean. But I may be sound harsh. If you dont have internet for such long time... It's not the game fault right ?

If someone is consistently not able to log in for such a long time, then yeah I get your point. Like, if I can only log in once every 3 months over and over again. But I'm talking about the people who typically play several times a week every month for years but maybe a few times it happened that they couldn't log in for a few months. Yeah, it's not the game's fault. But it's also not our fault that the game's housing system is so terrible.

If you want to say, "Hey, if you couldn't log in for a month...well, that sucks but hey it's just a game" then you must also think SE shouldn't have paused the timer for those suffering from the disasters right now. Because hey, that's not the game's fault. And maybe you DO think they shouldn't have paused the timer. But, clearly SE thinks if it's something beyond your control like a disaster, you deserve to keep your house. SO it stands to reason they should just extend the timer in general. You know?

Thank you, to the person who made this thread/request, and to Yoshi P and SE for answering it. I'm sure that those who are experiencing these disasters and their aftermath will appreciate that even in the smallest way, you've shown support, and that there may still be a part of their lives left untouched by these hurricanes when they make it back online. And that's what's important.

What is your goal anyway? Why are you are debating this? a HUGE number of people lost power where the weather is hot. People DIED because they had no power for AC because of the heat. It is not every day you see a hurricane cover a full state and cause mass power outages for 3 states along with high stormsurage

And maybe even if its just a ingame house its still full of good memories for some people and having a personal disaster or other things that are necessary that will keep you away from the game, which means that you will lose your house, might just be enough for some to stop playing the game or might just hurt them too. I mean if we just see it as a virtual good then wouldnt it be also fine if they delete our characters if we dont sub for two months? I mean its just a character right? Nothing real, so it should be fine to lose them and start new. (I know that this is bigger than just losing a house but its also still only a virtual thing)

People can become attached to a lot of things even if it does not really exist and they could have put a lot of work and Gil in it too. I mean Mikki did not even say that it should be stopped completely but that it should be a longer time..its just bad when Yoshida told us that its fine to take a break from the game, yet as soon as you have a house this cant happen..if it at least would be sub only and not necessary to log in.

Still happy that they stop the time for a bit so that people might not lose their house. Its a nice gesture. :)

I'm glad they decided to suspend housing demos for a time, honestly didn't expect them to actually do it. Was a kind gesture on their part. But yeah, it's all said and done, and this is just getting...ugly.

Nice to hear for those that are still affected by the hurricanes.

Yeah found out a few friends got hit by Maria, they're ok but going out for a least a month, yikes!

Raid healer lives in Puerto Rico. Last we heard, she was OK. The island has around 10% of power restored, if that. Literally getting ships and ships of aid, but on the verge of running out of food and water. Most cell towers are down (making contacting people for help near impossible). We thought about sending her a plane ticket to get her out of the island, but we have no idea if she'd even be able to get ticket and actually get a flight out.

This is an excellent and fair request.

While I'll agree this cannot continue forever and SE has every right to lift the suspension and get on with it as the original suspension was a nicety..
