Not sure if its been mentioned yet. But can we please have Indom work like lustrate instead of it having a cool down. I'd really like to spam AoE heals that aren't going to drain my mana and get the party up...(stares at succor)

Succor cost like 2200 MP 150 Potency- YES I know if it crits there is a shield...but still the cost of it is not worth!
Indom being instant and based of your stacks much how lustrate is would be helpful.

granted its in extreme cases..but so is lustrate! :D

Leveling was a pain

• Even with a rank 20 Chocobo as a third dot, I was still having to hard nuke things down. Not very fun 2 dotting then Broil (ED), Broil(ED), Broil(ED), Broil, Broil, Broil.
• The Bane nerf is felt extremely hard. Really, anything less than three mobs (most dungeon packs) you're better off just hard casting.
• The Removal of Sustain sucks. Face it, pet AI is terrible. There is a reason World of Warcraft made it so pets take 90% less damage from AoEs. Sustain helped mitigate that while still requiring thought. The fairy lags so much, she was constantly getting hit.
• Adloquinum costing 3 times what physic does is ridiculous. That is supposed to be our Cure 2 equivalent.

The gained abilities are pretty mediocre

• The two min CD on Chain Strategem makes it a once fired and forget button. Personally, I'd have liked it to be targeted on players. Having 15% more chance for MY spells to crit heal would have been amazing. This needs to be deployable or the dots affected by it need to keep their crit bonus when baned.
• The barely there potency advantage of Excogitation is pretty lackluster. With Lustrate on demand, what role does this fill? Also it has a Cooldown and uses an Aetherflow. That shouldn't happen. Indom has both but is a group heal. This ability serves no purpose right now that Lustrate doesn't already fill. It needs a longer duration, if not permanent, or if it doesn't go off after 30s, it needs to go off on it's own. The activation threshold needs to rise from 50% to 60%, tanks start freaking out when they get close to 50% and use CD's. Making it even harder for this ability to go off. Deployable would also be great.
• Currently there is nothing we can do that a well played AST or WHM can't do better.
• Excogitation and Fey Union seem like they were designed with the old Cleric Stance system in place. They provide a lot of healing giving the cover for the SCH to DPS.
• Excogitiation only applies Fey Union resources if it's used in combat. The PVE tooltip doesn't mention this, the PvP one does.

Fey Union needs it's own section

• Fey Union is a fairy ability, not a SCH ability. You can't cast it if the fairy is doing anything. Want to test it? Spam embrace and try to cast Fey Union. it won't happen.
• Fey Union tooltip is wrong. It says you can't target yourself, you can. I hope they don't fix this.
• Fey Union, like so many of our abilities, does not get a benefit from any +healing modifier. Rouse, Fey Illumination, Largesse, Convalescence, Warrior Tank stance.
• The 10yard limit is absolute garbage. If the tank moves, and they will, it breaks it.
• Even worse, if the tether breaks, resources are STILL USED. . . This NEEDS to be fixed. Longer tether, no wasted resources.

What is the purpose of Dissipation now with Fey Union?

• Dissipate needs changed as well. It has zero synergy with Fey Union. It needs to give you a small healing boost and swap to the other fairy. Or changed somehow. It is yet another unused button.
• You gain zero Fey Union gauge while the fairy is gone, and the aetherflow, now nerfed to 10%, barely covers the cost of resummoning the fairy. At this point, IMO, it is a healing and utility decrease to use Dissipate.

The Role Actions need some work, Especially Cleric Stance.

• Rescue is terrible. First the CD is WAY too long and second the ability goes off and then there's a lag in the pull. Why did dragoons always die to AoE? Lag, Now Red Mages are doing the same thing with their back jump. Lag.
• 5% on Cleric stance is not even noticeable. Terrible Role ability.
• I never used Break. Ever. I can't think of a single situation I would EVER take this.
• Same with Surecast. Never used. Ever. They need to make it so you can cast while moving when activated.
• You only hit Protect once and then remove it, what's the point? It should be like in PvP, a short term damage reduction.

We are absolute Beasts in PvP

• I felt super strong, always took more than one person to kill me. There were dps who thought they could do it alone and I could always match their damage with my heals. That is a good thing. Seriously, well done developers on PvP. It's not a gibfest anymore. However, if I was properly focused and/or CC'd, I WOULD go down.
• The added effect on Broil is amazing. It really solidifies us as debuffers.

The job quest is pretty lackluster

• I was hoping for something here, but what can 5 quests accomplish. Apparently not much. You meet someone, have an issue, and solve it (Won't spoil it). Yay us. It might have ramifications in the future, it might not.
• However, that last fight was pretty damn good. I actually had to heal the NPC's. And they moved to get out of danger. It was REALLY fun.

Best way I can think of for them to power up SCH healing again in a fashion is to simply remove all cooldowns on abilities that use Aetherflow. We can't spam them to begin with, letting us pop multiple Indoms or Excogs isn't going to make us OP simply because we can only use 3 (6 if Aetherflow is off cooldown) and then we have nothing for the next minute.

Adlo isn't our Cure 2, it serves a completely different purpose. The sch *big heal* is Physick+lustrate+fairy heal which is a lot for 600 mp.

Removal of Sustain is indeed very dumb but eh just have to learn where to park my fairy in different scenarios, I signed up for a pet class so managing my pet is part of that. I'd love sustain back regardless.

Yes dissipation is garbage.

If I had to change anything on the sch toolkit, it would be that when emergency tactics is up adlo/succor are 100% crit chance and probably increase . Also change disapation to something that gives us 100% crit chance for 15 seconds on all spells while the fairy is away then resummon fairy even if it means we lose the free aether stacks from the old version. These two things alone would make the mp cost on the spells fair for what they currently are. ATM they are hardly used out side of very specific situations but this would give a lot more flexibility.

Sch is supposed to be the crit based and focused healer so do some more things to push it that direction and the change to dissapation would vastly up sch dps

Noct aspected benefic/aspected helios was already stronger than succor, and now they've just made it even more stronger to where what we can do with our shields doesnt make up for how strong noct is anymore. Before the release of Stormblood, they admitted that they overtuned AST too much and that they would fix it come 4.0. Yet here we are, and they just continue to overtune it too hell and leave SCH's in the dust. So whats our nice now? its not shielding anymore because AST does it better, its never been healing because WHM does it better, and most of our utility has been given away to other jobs, our sustainable mp identity has been given to WHM with thin air, our aoe is practically nonexistent. So far these balances have not been worth not getting new healers and tanks.

Right now SCH just feels playable and not fun. Its not as rewarding as it used to be.

Honestly I'm half of the opinion that SE just doesn't know what to do with SCH as a job anymore, and it's been a sentiment I've held since I realized they actually thought Dissipation would be useful outside of very niche situations. Fey Union isn't worth the inability to cast faerie skills at present, one of the few things that actually lets us /try/ and keep up with the other jobs - and Deceptus covered every other issue with our newest additions to the overall kit. It feels like any good idea SCH might have goes to AST instead and with their hard stance against healers providing any DPS our one niche role has long since been revoked. Unless they actually balance the class in the coming months and nerf AST for doing what it shouldn't be superior at, as I've said prior, then I honestly see people abandoning the job outright. Too much effort for too little reward from a development team that seems to lack even the most basic understanding of how the class functions.

Just so you know, the double shield when you crit ability ONLY applies to adlo. it does not apply to succor shields. If a succor crits for 4200, its just a 4200 shield. So if thats why you think its worth the cost then you can forget that.

I know this is not my place to say this, but a spammable Indom?
I know SCH is weak now, but let's not kill the only thing WHM does even slightly better than others: AOE healing.

Indom is already extremely powerful, don't need it available three times in quick succession.

And why not? if your only argument is that it would infringe on what the other two healers already do so well then its pretty weak. we only have THREE atherstacks at most times in a fight save for the pull in the very beginning, after that we are managing what stacks to use on healing while also considering what stacks would serve better used to dps. Mind you these very same THREE stacks are our primary source of burst heals aside from a god awful Succor AOE that should absolutely not be spammed. currently a sch in an emergency raid situation without any atherflow most likely cannot save the raid as Succor alone will not suffice to keep the party alive while their main healer gets a rez

Making indom and excog like lustrate would only help Sch since our big heals are tied to a resource that is not always available to us depending on when big heals are needed. Its not like a situation where we would need to use indom in quick succession is likely to happen much in the first place as we should be mitigating most big damage, but should the time arise and its all on the sch having more AOE options then just "spam succor" would be nice!

Just came back after having taken a (long) break around 2.0. I have to say, I was really disappointed to see what SCH has become. 2/4 dots taken away, no virus, no stoneskin, aetherflow mana return negligible, cleric stance useless... I lost an entire bar of skills and got nothing back to replace them. We used to be a really cool utility class, switching between pretty good heals and okay damage - had some neat trick for every situation... Now it all feels like a slightly sub-par generic healing class, a bit boring really.

I'm hoping things improve on the way to 70, but at 51 I'm feeling gutted.

Sorry to inform you... but it doesn't get much better. I'm still ok in content atm, but I don't know what the hell is going to happen for Omega. people think they're going to fix us in 4.1 or maybe even 4.2 for Savage, but even if they do "fix" us... it would only be bringing us back to normal. no improvements, no buffs... just bringing us back to normal so we have somewhat of a fighting chance. I hope they nerf AST, if only just a bit. not to the point of early HW, but just enough so that their shields are slightly less uber than ours.

That's all I want. I'm not looking for any leg up on any of the other classes, I just want the same SCH(style) I played 2 years ago back. That was fun, this isn't.

I wanna know why they had to remove one/two of our built in DoTs, when they kept 4 different Fires/Blizzards. Each DoT did a different thing, so why merge the?

Because Yoshi said healers dpsing wasn't supposed to be a thing. then I look at Astro and they get 2 new dps skills? yea... not buying it Yoshi. Yes, I know that 1 is on a 1min CD and the other happens only when you want to throw away a useless card that wouldn't be useful for Royal Road (like getting 2 Ewer in a row even after you Redraw and nowhere to put it).... but still.

No, he never said it "wasn't supposed to be a thing", just that encounters weren't designed with it in mind. This means they don't balance DPS-checks to include healer DPS, making any additional damage a healer can throw out to be pure bonus for meeting the DPS goals.

I’ve been leveling my scholar now so here are my thoughts on the class. I’m going to be doing some comparisons to Astrologian since that seems to be the strongest healing class right now. While scholar does get the job done in the content I have played it somehow feels hollow. Mana is a big issue when there is a lot of group healing and I often find myself starved for Atherflow trying to keep up in these situations. I understand that Atherflow heals are good heals with no mana but they are gated behind Atherflows and cooldowns which make them only viable for burst healing. I think SE intended for emergency tactics to fill in as the Benfic II (with Aldo) and Helios (with Succor) but emergency tactics is also gated behind a cooldown. Both of these spells also cost a significant amount of mana over their Astrologian counterpart spells (more than what is made up by Atherflow). On top of this succor is significantly worse than Aspected Helios (150 potency + 22.5 potency from Nocturnal Sect + 150% shield against 150 potency + 100% shield for Succor). How is this even possible? Scholar IS the shield healer, it’s their only option. It’s not like they can go regen healer like Astrologian can to fit the content. Outside of healing, scholar’s aoe dps is also significantly behind Astrologians. This one was a bit harder to figure out with the way bane and gravity work and the differences between them. I think the easiest way to demonstrate the differences is to work out each aoe dps in potency per second using 3 mobs. For scholar things work out like this:

Bio II + Miasma + Bane + Broil II Spam (I’m not counting shadow flare as it is very situational now)

For Bio II and Miasma we have a 35 potency tick every ~2s or so. We also have a 20 potency DD with Miasma that hits the first target on spell cast. This works out to:

Bio II (potency/s) = 35/2 = 17.5 potency/s (on the first mob)
Bio II (potency/s) mob 2 = 17.5 * .80 = 14 potency/s (on the second mob)
Bio II (potency/s) mob 3= 17.5 * .60 = 10.5 potency/s (on the third mob)
Bio II (potency/s) mob 4= 17.5 * .40 = 7 potency/s (on the third mob)
Bio II (potency/s) mob 5= 17.5 * .20 = 3.5 potency/s (on the third mob)
Bio II (potency/s) mob 6= 17.5 * .20 = 3.5 potency/s (on the third mob)

Miasma (potency/s) = 35/2 = 17.5 + 20 / 24s = 18.3 potency/s (on the first mob)
Miasma (potency/s) mob 2 = 17.5 * .80 = 14 potency/s (on the second mob)
Miasma (potency/s) mob 3= 17.5 * .60 = 10.5 potency/s (on the third mob)
Miasma (potency/s) mob 4= 17.5 * .40 = 7 potency/s (on the third mob)
Miasma (potency/s) mob 5= 17.5 * .20 = 3.5 potency/s (on the third mob)
Miasma (potency/s) mob 6= 17.5 * .20 = 3.5 potency/s (on the third mob)

Now let’s assume you are also spamming Broil II on a mob:
Broil II (potency/s) = 230 / 2.35s = 97.87

This gives a total of:
Scholar total potency/s (3 mobs) = 17.5 + 14 + 10.5 + 18.3 + 14 + 10.5 + 97.87 = 182.84 potency/s
Scholar total potency/s (4 mobs) = 182.84 + 7 + 7 = 196.4 potency/s
Scholar total potency/s (5 mobs) = 196.4 + 3.5 + 3.5 = 203.4 potency/s
Scholar total potency/s (6 mobs) = 203.4 + 3.5 + 3.5 = 210.4 potency/s

Now for Astrologian I’m just going assume they are doing normal gravity spam without using Lightspeed:

Gravity (potency/s) = 200 / 2.74s = 73 potency/s
Gravity (potency/s) mob 2 = 73 * .90 = 65.7 potency/s
Gravity (potency/s) mob 3 = 73 * .80 = 58.4 potency/s
Gravity (potency/s) mob 4 = 73 * .70 = 51.1 potency/s
Gravity (potency/s) mob 5 = 73 * .60 = 43.8 potency/s
Gravity (potency/s) mob 6 = 73 * .50 = 36.5 potency/s

This gives us a total of:
Astrologian total potency/s (3 mobs) = 73 + 65.7 + 58.4 = 197.1 potency/s
Astrologian total potency/s (4 mobs) = 197.1 + 51.1= 248.2 potency/s
Astrologian total potency/s (5 mobs) = 248.2 + 43.8 = 292 potency/s
Astrologian total potency/s (6 mobs) = 292 + 36.5 = 328.5 potency/s

Now for the mana cost of each (just calculating the mana cost vs the base potency for the spell. I’m using the total potency/s * the length of the dot for the two dots), Scholar comes in at about 4.64mp per potency vs Astrologian at 7.07mp per potency. Scholar has a 34% mana reduction when compared to a 8% at 3 mobs and 35% at 6 mobs reduction in potency vs an Astrologian. This is in no way balanced with packs more than 3. So how do you fix these issues, here my thoughts about that. First Aldo and Succor mp needs to be brought down to about the same as Aspected Benefic and Aspected Helios with about a 2 – 3% increase to account for Atherflow. Emergency Tactics recast time needs to go away (or at the very least reduce it to about 10s to account for atherflow heals) and it needs to reduce the mp cost of Aldo and Succor to about the same level as Benefic II and Helios (probably about a 20 - 25% or so decrease over base Aldo and Succor). Succor needs to have the same crit effect as Aldo has. This will make Scholar’s crit succor shields better than Astrologian’s while being a bit behind for non crit shields. This will also keep in line with the Scholar theme of being a crit dependent healer. For the aoe dps, bane needs to be brought into line with how gravity and holy works for multiple mobs. Even that is probably not going to be enough to bring Scholars in balance with Astrologian’s. We probably need a 3rd dot that is baneable to accomplish this. These are my 2gil pieces on the changes needed for scholar. Take them as you will.

P.S. Seriously, what is the point of Dissipation? I don’t think I have ever used this spell in the history that I have had it (I mained a Scholar for a good part of 3.X). With the way that fairy work at 70 it seems like there is even less on an incentive for me to use it. Please SE, just change it something useful or fun or something. Just not that…. Please…. Pretty Please. There might be a cookie in it for you.

I've decided, playing main sch from 2.0, or I can not be a weight to my static, or just leave the game. I do not change class because those in the square do not know what to do and they ruin my class. So either review it before the raid or just leave it. It's not a criticism, but I do not have fun anymore, and since it's a game I do not see why I have to pay if I do not enjoy it. Sorry the outburst and english

Now that I have had a chance to get to level 70 on my SCH, gear a bit, and tackle some content, I feel like I can post in this thread.

- Shadowflare change allows me to use Sacred Soil more.
- I like Aetherpact, a lot.
- My mana seems completely fine and near infinite with Lucid Dreaming and smart casting.
- Even though Embrace had its potency reduced, I do not notice the difference at all in pre-Stormblood dungeons.
- Chain Startegem is cool.
- Excogitation is a great option when Aetherflow is about to come off from cool down and I have a stack left.
- I am okay with DPS nerfs. Before Stormblood I found myself getting salty when forced out of Cleric Stance because my DPS was useful. The DPS nerfs mean stopping to heal is not as consequential and I do not get salty over it anymore.
- SCH AoE DPS cannot be compared to WHM and AST. SCH AoE DPS is passive and practically mana neutral. AST and WHM cannot heal while doing AoE DPS and it greatly impacts their mana.

1. Sacred Soil is rarely useful at all and hardly worth the stack over Lustrate or Energy drain
2. Aetherpact is decent, although the range is pretty bad
3. Mana is indeed completely fine with Lucid Dream
4. Duration on Chain Strategem is too short. Should be twenty seconds. 15 feels and is too low of a timer
5. Exogitation is a terrible ability. Not only is it not guaranteed that it will in fact go off, it's only 50 potency more than a Lustrate. It's probably just better to use Lustrate as you know it will actually heal.
6. ScH AOE can definitely be compared to the other healers. The stun Holy gives is fantastic. As an AST you have Earthly Star, that 300 potency RNG move and Gravity. They much better raw healing on AST and WHM blows SCH out of the water. As a matter of fact, on my WHM, I could DPS a lot more than on my Scholar. I could barely get my dots up and Bane before I had to spam Lustrate. As a WHM I only needed to regen, put a Asylum down and Holy plus Assize plus Aero III. It does insane amounts of damage. But I guess because SCH is passive and has no mana cost while you can literally shit out 4 holies for free, I guess that makes it fine. I also don't understand this attitude that you got salty because you couldn't DPS anymore. But now, since your DPS as a SCH is basically crap, you can be happy again. I've never read such drivel on a forum for a long time.

I disagree. Sacred Soil is more than worth the stack if it procs a free Succor. If the Tank is doing a large pull or taking massive damage, Sacred Soil will prevent more damage than one Lustrate can heal.

You can never rely on the free Succor cast, so that can't be factored into the relative value of Sacred Soil.

As for Sacred Soil vs. Indomitability/Lustrate, I just tested and at ilvl314, my Lustrate heals for ~11000, and my Indom heals for ~7500 per target. Sacred Soil is 10% mitigation. In order for Sacred Soil to be worth the stack over either of those two, it has to either prevent a death from a single hit, or mitigate more than 110,000 (single target) or 75,000 (per target multi target) damage worth of hits over it's duration. Do you realize how few situations there are in this game that a boss has more than 110,000 ST / 75,000 AoE in unavoidable damage going out within 15 seconds?

It's not the case at all that I want to look down on you. You just give very poor reasons and it almost looks like a troll. Your last remark makes absolutely no sense and is such a poor argument for the gimping of DPS ... It may come as a shock to you as well. But posting on a discussion forum, people will evaluate your comments and discuss them. I don't need to ask anyone's permission. Now that this off topic is out of the way, someone has already dealt with your Succor remark. It's clear that Scholar needs a bit of love and I hope they do it sooner rather than later. There are plenty of quality posts out there.

Sacred Soil is NEVER worth using over lustrate or indom. Ever. Its a neat skill but it is not worth the aetherflow cost. A free succor is nice and all..but only 20% chance if I remember correctly? If I wanted to use succor I'd just use it, not waste an aetherflow charge for the chance to use it for free.

I think SCH need a buff for their mitigation and make fairy more effectivenes in terms og healing again..

I barely play sch and always been playing WHM thru hw.
When i first leveled sch 61-65 i thought it was bit friendly till i hit level 68 where i kind of struggled keeping tank alive with healing and barely had i room for dps. Not that dps is important but i am able to dps ten times more with whm in my experience. Also since i struggled keeping tanks alive i dont like being lock behind aetherflow and spam physick and adlo which costs 1/10 out of my MP.

There was a reason why sacred soil was barely used in the past beyond the dps of shadow flare. In most multiple mob packs where slow worked, shadow flare offered more mitigation than scared soil would. On single mob or boss fights lustrate and indom would heal for more damage then scared soil would ever mitigate. It just wasn't worth the cost of an atherflow to use it in most situations. The only point where it might of been useful was during a phase change where the whole raid was being damaged and you wanted to use both scared soil and indom. You also cant count on the 20% chance to get a free succor nor is guaranteed you will need that free succor when it comes up. This unreliability and the fact that the effect wasn't buffed makes this an inferior ability, maybe just slight better than dissipation right now.

According to YoshiP job rebalancing is planned to start with 4.05 when Omega savage hits. Right now all they're doing is bug fixes and enmity adjustments.

Do they not at least consider fey union going down when the fairy isn't tethered a "bug" or is that just "working as intended" 8/

The healing output from it is pretty low considering how long it takes to build up the gauge. I feel like the entire job was nerfed because of this one ability and its not powerful enough to make up for it.

Plus how buggy and finicky it is, being a pet ability.

Which brings up a question, why do we obtain a fairy ability and not the fairies..

Except they buffed drk and brd skills and id hope a skill with as many functional issues as fey union would have been considered a skill that needed adjustment

It also worries me that the only mention healers get in that entire blurb is a mention of how 270 strength accessories make our lives harder and not the necessary balances that need to be made. It somewhat implies that they see the current status of SCH to be working as intended, which further makes me believe that no one on the development team honestly understands how this class works or what most SCH mains actually WANT.

After playing for a while these are some of the things I would like to be adjusted:

Excogitation: 2-3 ticks, when target's hp goes on or below 50%.

Emergency Tactics: Sure crit, insta cast (insta cast is optional, but I can dream, right?).

Quickened Aetherflow: Higher proc and/or higher cooldown reduction.

Lustrate: Proc: Has 25% more chance that your next Adloquium would crit.

Indomitability: Proc: Has 25% more chance that your next Succor would crit.

Make Fey Union trigger a little less clunky.

We were hit with the need bat pretty hard this expansion. First our adlo is weaker then astro, cost more manna and has a cast time. Shields are suppose to be out thing, they should have given us an instant cast shield instead that crappy excog. Or at least buff Excog. up some. A potency of 650 compared to 600 on lustrate is laughable. The potency should be around 800 or even 850 if nothing else, and with no cool down. Next is out fairy nerf, embrace didn't need a reduction in potency. Eye for an eye is directly tied into our deployment tactics yet it's a role ability, that makes no sense. We should get a major buff to using Eye for an eye, the cool down should be the same as deployment tactics for SCH. Please rework the useless ability dissipation, From what I read , when 3.0 was in testing dissipation was very strong and they nerfed it into the ground into what we have. Perhaps take it back to what 3.0 beta was or remove it and give us another skill all together, while you're at it and give us back our AOE miasma 2 or something similar. Lastly, the nerf to bane is just too much. Bane gave us the ability to help DPS large groups, this effect is felt by summoners as well. Bane is all but useless now. Put the potency back to where it was in 3.0. I feel like our identity has been stolen from us. I mean, we used to be the mitigation, shield healers who helped backup DPS. Now our DPS is horrible and shields are better done by Astros, that leaves us as the redheaded step children of the healers.

I go to lunch at around 1am, using my lunch time and the time from breaks I missed (Quality Control, so I feel like I need to handle things before I take a break), so I can go to my car to eat, and with the hopes and dreams of seeing just a little bit of polishing before any major changes.

Oh man! I see some potency buffs! Oh man! I see enmity buffs! Hm...nothing. Maybe if I just scroll down a bit... An issue wherein the scholar action Fey Union would always restore critical HP under certain conditions.

The ONLY thing that I liked! All that time I invested into getting that gauge and popping it on the tank after they had planted themselves for that big pull they just had and them getting healed for 8-9k every 3 secs gave me the time I wanted to do those deeps! This was the best thing done to Sch this expansion (and it was an accident)! Sure, Fey Union is clunky as hell, but when you can get it to work, it is absolutely magical! Why do you not love us anymore, Yoshi!?
