No, I'm refering to the synth count for the Luminary items.

we actualy agree on alot of stuff wrong
some stuff we could care less about, and every time some of us say we dont mind how things are we get yelled at as "white knights"
its amazing, i still stand by what i said earlier
anyone who doesnt agree with every negative comment about the game = white knight to these people
because being constructive and having any positive views at all is forbidden
leve synths do count towards the achievment, ive already confirmed this with one popping after i finished one and stood up from it
granted you dont get many synths by doing it, but for some crafts(leatherworking im looking at you!) where you cant get the mats by gathering, its always an appreciated number no matter how small
Just tested on my Fisherlala and can confirm: Leves do count towards your Lum. Tool Totals and achievement progress. Tested by doing one grade 1 Fishing Leve for 6 pulls and then fished 14 more pulls to get the achievement for 20 pulls in Thalanan Grade 1 Node. While I have not tested this for crafting leves, yet, I'm going to assume crafting works the same.
LOL, didn't see Vedis's response before I posted....maybe I should get some zzz's
264 hours mining before you can get the gold pickaxe....
the first 48 a complete time sink for an already level 50 player.... 48 hours of mining is 12 4 hours a day sessions. a week and a half of your life for copper ore. The next 216 hours a time sink designed for douchebags in the forums to have an out when you say there is no content in the game. NO CONTENT?!?! you dont even have all the gold tools yet?
Hey. Remember that fishing line in XI where you had to collect like a billion of one type of fish to get and only the people truly committed to getting it would have it?
Well there you go.
BUT BUT BUT... It's content!
This thread is going to get a bump everytime some discovers the Luminary Gather tool achievement reqs.
4 hours to do 300 gathers... you are doing something totally wrong.
You can do 15 gathers in leves in 6-7 minutes and leves are slower than grinding (gather for gather). Even taking the low end estimate of 7 minutes, you should be able to gather 530 times in 4 hours.
You should be able to do closer to 700-750 gathers in 4 hours, not 300... this takes the hour investment down from 264 to closer to 100-110 hours. As Thevedis said, the larger issue is hitting fatigue around the 700-900 range. You also get an extreme amount of mats doing these achievements which in turn let you get the crafting tools.
If you are unsure how to gather (item on 1 hit, every hit) then check out the gathering forums, but you have to be doing something wrong or AFK for a large portion of that 4 hours to only get 300.
Well with the patch 1.20a with the counters has illuminated things quite interestingly. I had ARM at r40 before 1.20 came on with accomplishments. Since then I have been grinding it using about 80% Local Leves (r40 and 45 recipies) and 20% grinding Iron Greaves (without using GC buff). I am now about 50K into r45. Since the patch I have done only 400 out of the 3000 sucessful synthesis neede for the accomplishment out of 5.5 COMPLETE LEVELS. If I extrapolate the amount of SP needed to get to 50 only grinding on Iron Greaves and not using any more leves it would require (not taking into account quality gains and failed synths)
Rank - Base SP - SP to Level - No of synths
r45 500 35000 70
r46 450 92000 204
r47 400 96000 240
r48 350 100000 285
r49 300 100000 333
Totalling in only 1132 more synths to reach max level, bringi my total synths in the 41-50 bracket to about 1,500 which is only HALF of what is required. Granted I relied heavily on Local leves for my sp for the first 5 ranks, but it is easy to see that it is VERY possible not to have done 3000+ synths for the 41-50 brackets and thus not be 'automatically' eligable for the accomplishment.
you pretty much summed up what ive been looking at all this time
though your numbers are lower then i expected them to be(i figured youd be in the 2000 range)
of course, those who did their 50s BEFORE the original exp hike that happened back last december or so, then yeah you may have it, but after that, not a chance
Well granted that in the 35-40 range you would probably be doing some r41+ recipies, but that would only add a few hundred to the total. So unless you are a crafter who would have made a thousand or so items outside of grinding for gearing up LS or selling, i would say that it is unlikely that you would have met the reqirements for some of the synthesis accomplishments.
R51+ recipies count to the r41-50 total. A guy in my LS checked his total, crafted a few r52 rank recipies and his 41-50 total increased by that number of synths.
ok, good to know then
but with that reasoning lets remember they also give more exp per synth so youll keep higher counts of exp per all the way to 50, while this does lower the total synths its not as bad as not getting it at all i guess
but yeah, fact is youll still come off pretty short of the 3k endmark
Does it break down as such?:
Grade 1: 20 Strikes?
Grade 2: 300 Strikes
Grade 3: 1,000 Strikes
Grade 4: 2,000 Strikes
Grade 5: 4,000 Strikes
total = 7,320 per area x3 Main City Areas = 21,960 Strikes for luminary mine (or did i miss something?)
In any case if you are a prepatch 45+ gatherer planning on doing this to get your luminary item... you will easily get 8 strikes per node which, as Raldo pointed out, equals 2,745 Nodes. Now if you multiply the total strikes by 1 item per strike and devide by 99 items per stack you get 222 Stacks give or take a few... that is A LOT of items.
Considering that the majority of the grind (2000 Strikes at Grade 4 + 4000 Strikes Grade 5 x3 main cities= 18,000/21,960 strikes) yields either Cobalt, Electrum, and/or Mythril we can apply a 50% drop rate (1 rare ore per 2 strikes) which gives us a nice 18,000/2= 9,000 rare ore/3 rare ore = 3,000 Electrum, Cobalt, and Mythril Ore/100 Ore per stack =30 stacks of each rare ore.
Thats 30 Stacks Each of Cobalt, Electrum, AND Mythril Ore yielded from HALF of the grade 4 and 5 Strikes. The OTHER half will yield an additional 90 to 180 stacks of items (if you get 1-2 items per strike) being either a number of Rare Gems, Silver, Iron, Alumen and then some....
3,000 Gil per rare orex100 per stack =300,000 Gil per stack of rare ore x 90 stacks = 27 mil Gil in rare ore
All of this ore can then be crafted into AT LEAST 10 stacks of EACH Cobalt, Electrum, and Mythril Ingots. And all of these ingots will count towards your Crafting achievements! =P Thats enough for one of the crafting items if you concentrate them all OR you could get 1000 synths towards GSing achievement, 1000 towards Blacksmithing, and 1000 towards Armorer just making the ingots.
Alternatively 30 stacks of Electrum ore could be converted into nuggets; 30x 99 ore = 3,000/4 ore = 725 synths x12 nuggets per synth = 8910 Electrum nuggets (90 Stacks of Elec Nuggs) /2 nuggets per Dated Electrum Ring = 4455 Electrum Ring Synths... thats WAY more than enough to get your goldsmith from 34-44 (Ring Cap?) AND get you the Goldsmithing lvl 40-50 Cap knocked out.
You get to kill more than two birds with one stone just getting your Luminary Pickaxe. Those meaphorical birds being the Luminary Pickaxe, Luminary Goldsmithing Hammer, Luminary Armorer and Blacksmithing Items, and LOADS of Weapons, Armor, and Accesories to Spiritbond into materia and attempt multi melds etc... which leads into the Materia and Melding Achievements!
Need i go on more? The same could be said for Logging and Fishing, except for the fact that there arent as many DoHs dependent upon them as there are upon Miners...
Happy Holidays and Happy Harvesting and Crafting ^^;
@matsune thats all well and nice, but the biggest whiners abvout this are those who went to 50 and dont ever wanna touch the job again
all the real crafters/gatherers know what the real score is and thats why most of us are not complaining and just getting to work
its those who only leveled the job to 50 to have it at 50 who care so much
yes i realize this, i got mining to 44 before patch ._. but you know as well as i do that the patch ALSO reduced the drop rate of cobalt and electrum from 2-3 per strike to 1 such as the mythril. So all of these so called whiners complaining about not getting their strikes have been in a way compensated by an increase in drop for electrum and cobalt.
Believe you me I was not the only one to have lvld mining from 40-44 in the two-three days before patch came out so as to gather an obscene amount of cobalt and electrum before nerf. Thats a least 1500 lvl 40-50 strikes i will not get credit for, but the ore was very much worth it.
It's nice to see some jobless people working towards this 24/7 legitimately, but I guarantee 99% of people running around with these tools will bot them. I've no intention of botting so the tools can go make love to themselves. If I gained some credit from my 50 jobs I'd at least have the motivation to finish them off. It's a complete waste to do them on a class that is at 50, anyone who disagrees is incapable of logical thinking. You'd be far better off creating a new character and doing them there so that you have two characters with every class at 50. You could then RMT your first character when they have value.
At the end of the day these tools will be worthless by the time you get them because the level cap will probably go up to 60 in 1.21. Not to mention a shiny gathering tool is useless to begin with. At 50 you can gather in weathered gear and get the same items from a grade 5 node as a guy geared up with a shiny hammer and proper gear. The only tools worth it are CRP/TAN/WEA/GSM/BSM/ARM and even then I can live without. I can craft anything with ease at 50 and they're dumbing down the HQ system so extra craftmanship or whatever won't help.
Keep wasting your time.
1. You CAN'T get the same results in Weathered Gears as you can in decent gears for your level. I learned this when I equipped a different gathering vest (sub-optimal) on my body thinking, 'Hey, while I'm out here chopping 1000's of trees, why not Spiritbond some stuff?' My rank 42 BTN dropped from being able to do 5 chops per grade 5 node to 3.
2. I really doubt we're getting a level cap increase anytime pre 2.0.
3. It is NOT that hard or impractical to get any of these tools if you actually are a gatherer/crafter. If however you just like having classes at rank 50 then yes, these are not the achievements for you. (A real gather or crafter will still of course take a bit of time to gain these tools BUT, they will work towards them naturally doing something they were doing anyway.)
4. Advertising that it is better to sell your character than actually play it probably isn't the wisest thing to do on SE's FFXIV forums...even if the forum reps are on vacation.
5. They are called Achievements for a reason...if everyone could have it and it was easy to get, what is the point?
6. Lastly, there are different ways of going about this that seem less grindy and more practical. So far, my BTN has made decent money selling the stuff I've gathered making the time I've spent harvesting worth a decent amount of gil...like so decent I'd go chop those nodes I don't even get exp for now even if I didn't get an achievement for it. Others have been using the mats they get doing there DOL to grind/level their DOH.
I got the first level of achievements done for my rank 50 CUL yesterday (I made some stacks of crafting food my rank 23 CRP can use). However since CUL gets new recipes with patch 1.21, I am waiting until I have new, fun recipes to work with to earn my golden frypan. But as a CUL I usually need to make low-mid level recipes to make the ingrediants I need for higher ranked synths. By making my own lower level mats to craft higher ranked food items, I'm again earning credits in more achievement slots AND lining my pockets with gil (or at least saving some).
And again, this is work/crafting I usually did anyway. Which goes back to 'if you think it's that much of a chore, then you really weren't a dedicated gatherer/crafter anyway and these aren't the tools for you.'

It irritates me when I see someone with an obvious bot. I roll up near this guy fishing last night and he constantly jigs in the middle EVERY cast. My log shows the only fish he's catching are the ones you can only catch in that jig spot. At least there are some more complex ones to where if you don't catch it in one spot it moves to another.
/sigh
To me as a player who got all classes to 50, it feels like SE wiped my data. No different for me if I have the number 50 above my head or not as long as am about to do it all over again.
The "achievement" not for everyone, somehow this is true. But if it was exist before I level up my char, I could have got it while leveling it. The new players or people who are level 1 will get it too, even if they hate that job ( gathering / crafting ) ... and no one will tell them they are not for you :-(
It is like what "captainpicard" said:-
".... it appears SE doesn't value my progress to this date. Yet again taking a giant dump on existing players."
This is SE first step on achievement, let see when they add more achievement that touch DoW progress
They are brilliant, they'll add achievement to kill 1k mobs lv1~10, 5k mobs lv11~20 ..... 100k mobs lv41~50
alot of people dont realize there was an achievment system before the one in game
and they just added to it, so all these are new achievments
these people are just in denial and mad cuz they are the "gimme" crowd
im all 50s too and im more then willing to go back, hell as ive said before, i expetced to have to redo pretty much ALL of the achievments, im glad i dont have to, but i was a realist
Hello, TheVedis
if you want to re-do it, that doesn't make you wrong or bad :D
if I don't want to re-do it, that doesn't make me wrong too :)
Even if SE ask us to re-do it 100 times, some will go and do it, others may don't like it ... its matter of taste to love/hate things :)
Where is the fun to re do the same things 50 times or 10 times or twice? We suppose to play to have fun. Let see how many people will be upset if SE wiped char data at 2.0 release?
We'll see people who'll come and here and say "Thank SE for doing this" and we'll see "Get Lost SE" :)
I'm not here to tell people who like this achievement that they are wrong, not at all. I'am here to tell SE what I do NOT like :)
Thank you ^-^/
the thing is
we arent redoing anything(well we may be doing some of it over if you want to count actualsynth numbers i guess)
but pretty much almost NO ONE earned these while grinding to 50, a few pages back someone did some math on how they were leveling, and it showed some hard numbers
when i went back and did some math i came to similar results
while you may not have had to do it all over if it was retroctive, you probly would still be doiung 50% of the crafting achievments again easily, and well over 70% of the gathering ones
in the end, we all knew it was going to happen, people just chose to be blind to it until they saw it in game, several of us had been talking about having to redo stuff for months because SE originaly came out and said NOTHING was retroactive in the achievment system
that would have been the best time to voice opinions, yet alot of people just ignored it
add in the fact there was NO WAY to track it back then, and you have what you have, if anything, the fault of the system lies with the original way things were tracked, and how this wasnt one of them
but at the end of the day, people who enjoy crafting and gathering will have no problem doing these axchievments, the main complainers are those who DO NOT LIKE CRAFTING OR GATHERING AT ALL and got 50 and dont wanna touch them again
ok, I do not like crafting/gathering and NewPlayer2346 just joined today and he do not like crafting/gathering too
after while ....
He'll be 50s on all crafting/gathering
I'm 50s too
He hate crafting/gathering, I hate it too
He got that achievement, but I did not get it.
just because he is "a new customer" and I'm "an old customer"
if SE want to be fair enough for everyone, should have made it "Get to 50 first, then start getting this achievement after that"
I hope you got my point :)
Thank you again ^-^
actualy, your wrong
he just started, he will hit 50, and NOT have the achievment, because it requires about 30-40% more synthing then you actualy need to cap
yes he will be closer, but he will still not have it, and he wont ever get it because since he dislikes it just like you, he wont bother trying to finish it
I don't think making base materials like ingots, cloth and leather is really stimulating the economy, if you had said flooding then yea I would have agreed.
This makes much more sense, seeing as the item is level 50 anyway, I doubt anyone would have complained if they were level 50 and had to go out and grind on grade 5 nodes.Quote:

I've taken a look at your progress so far and you have yet to hit the plateau that will destroy your ambition. Picture a pool with a shallow and a deep end, or better yet, a lake where the point when the depth drops is sudden and immense. That's sort of what these achievements are like. There are alot of easy ones to keep you busy for a little while, fooling you into thinking you can do this. But once you hit that drop, the achievements become so vast in demand that your focus becomes skewed and defeat rears its ugly head. I'm approaching this point at the moment and it's not pleasant. I think maybe you will have a clearer idea of why there is so much backlash against this once you reach that point.
1 thing after saw u spam so many post.
just stand out and say i didnt use any BOT or other help to get all these lvl 50, i just push the button 1by1 to get all lvl 50.
and i will click those buttons again.
the only person who not complained these DOL DOH achievement design is person who use BOOOOOOOOOT.
