Out of curiosity yes, did not play it back then and as I keep earing people say we need to burn it I'm curious to see why
of course i would play it 1.23b even 1.0. My love for ff14 is eternal and i am really sad that i didn't get the chance to play it, the msq looks awesome after looking at some videos.
The gameplay back then might be not the best or complicated than now but yes to have that game revived would be great with the gameplay we have now (i am still would want to try the original gameplay aswell) and to have bosses spawning in town is so exciting really that world has it own charm and is unique. c:
Kind of. Maybe? I loved 1.0 in general and enjoyed it way more than I ever have 2.0 onwards, but there's a lot of QoL that would be lost going backwards that would make it hard to play...
For the story? Yes, for the game play? probably not.
If they could incorporate the new system or put the old story with the new system in it, then yeah I would be excited for it.
I would. I wouldn't even mind it as a single player rpg provided they kept the higher end looks and animations.
Nah, this game while not perfect is still good and is what it is.
Wish XI could get HD and and grab some of the UI from here and transition to buy to play, so I could play 2 FF mmos at all times.
I'd be all over a single player/co-op XI or 1.23 though.
I wouldn't mind playing FF14 1.xx with Yoshi's fixes, but how would they go about us going 5 years back in time I wonder?
Absolutely not. 1.x was a mess
The current game's population couldn't even handle Alexander Gordias, how do you expect them to handle something that was far far more difficult? There is a reason why it was replaced, leave the dead in the past, the present is for the living and Stormblood, FFXIV 4.0.
Eh, I've played through it but wouldn't wish it back.
@Malzian: Doesn't matter that it's a necro. Better than starting another thread with the exact same topic, and this could always be relevant as long as people pitch in replies.
I said it again and i will say again and again the 1.0 or 1.23b would look so exciting to play with the new gameplay we have now and with fixes that needs in it no lag anymore etc....me i think Square Enix can do it since they improved in making online game even if it was a pain. I believe they can fix it and why leave it in the past since it's a part of a story of ff14, ARR ff14 is nothing without that missing part of the story. So leave the haters of ff14 1.23b in the past shall we?
yes i love to go back a bit and play again :)
I'd try it just to see how much it lives up to its notorious reputation.
I rather doubt I'd keep playing it, though.
Minus all the flaws that were there in 1.0? Sure. I'd love to experience the creative freedom the XIV staff were given at one point before 2.0. However, if you meant everything, flaws and all, absolutely not. 1.0 was a dysfunctional creation that needed to be lead into the back and shot. Thankfully, it was.
However, to make 1.0 with all the fixes the team has been able to create and implement into 2.0, they'd be making the game all over again. Technically, for a third time.
"Thank god they constructed a better game."
There you go.
I mean look at this:

There's nothing good to say about it.
I actually liked 1.xx better than what we have now.
It was a very different game in concept.
Much closer to what i like in an MMO.
A lot of incomplete, rough things, sure, but based on the foundation, i always enjoyed it more.
Actually, i only put up with this game because
1) It's Final Fantasy,
2) I've tried every other AAA MMO released in the last decade i can think of and the rest are also all crap
We were talking about this on our FC yesterday, we would all go back to 1.23b without hesitation, it was better than what we have now.
I would've loved a chance to go through the story!! I never got to play it and was superrrr confused with a lot of things when I first started the game. I actually didn't know A Realm Reborn was a completely new game, I was a newb when I got this game, and was confused of all the different videos I saw for this game. It took a while to realize that our story now is years later and all sorts of thigns happened before hand.
I would totally like a way to enjoy the story of 1.0. And experience the fights.
1.x was an inferior product vs ARR, even if you go the sandbox route the game offered nothing compared to Ultima Online or Star Wars Galaxy Online. Why would anyone want to play it over what we have now it's beyond me.
I'd be curious just to see the story and prequel to everything that leads into ARR. I wouldn't say no to something like they make a single-player rpg out of the 1.0 - 1.23b story-line and then that would act as a prequel to the MMO itself.
Though on a side note in that same line of thought I'd absolutely love for them to make FF 11 into a single player title once they finally shut their servers down for it.
Either way something like that would be a huge undertaking and would essentially be for all intensive purposes a remake.
Hell no! I've heard the legends of the dark times....
I mean seriously, god, they literally had to burn that game out with fire. Anytime you need a crazy dragon God to erase your mistakes with fire, that's just a bad time.
C'mon, there are hours of 1.x gameplay on youtube. You don't need to play something directly to know if it's bad or not. Does this seriously look fun to you?

people might say yes but once they go back to it the rose colored glasses will come off :/ Classic servers won't last long before you get bored because there will be no new content to play. You'll be playing the same content over and over and eventually get bored and leave.
I guess there's no point in argueing with the people who hated it because if they are convinced it was bad then it must have been and anyone who doesn't agree with them must have something wrong with them. I've seen gameplay of the original game and yes it looks fun and yes I still want to be able to play it.
I never got the same feeling in this game at any point that i got the first time i went to the Lance in 1.xx
I wasn't around then, I'd want to try it purely out of curiosity and to the see story for whatever that's worth.
Most of what I've heard tells me I probably wouldn't be a long term player of that version.
No questions asked. Would love to relive those moments from 1.xx.
Once again I disagree. I'm not just going to take the word of random people on the internet as truth. This thread is asking people if they would play if if they could and those of us who say yes and that it looks fun are basically having our intelligence questioned. We aren't saying anyone is stupid for not liking it though. See my problem yet? Even some people who played it had fun with it. Fun is subjective personal opinion.
I would love to, just to finish it off. I had to stop playing for financial reasons, not gameplay ones. I got back after ARR and still wish I could finish it.
I personally never played 1.0, I wish i did though :(
He might not, but those of us who had played it and enjoyed at least broad aspects of it would. I preferred spending time on it over spending time in ARR, even if there's much I prefer about the later iterations of the game. The game had an almost cathartic touch that I haven't really felt since. Admittedly, one could say the same for Animal Crossing or the like, which wouldn't make it superior to this, but I can only restate: there's a lot I preferred about 1.x, and certainly about the direction it was going (especially pre-Yoshida), provided it had had the funding and coordination it needed.
1.x made me want to actually explore and read the NPC text and so forth. Try as I might, I haven't been able to maintain that interest in ARR. Just one small point, but I think it may be just the tip of an iceberg, so to speak.
From the videos I've seen of the gameplay, no, I wouldn't want to play it. And when people say it was visually more appealing, I must be needing new glasses because I really don't see it.
The game looks gorgeous as is it now, especially since after the implementation of directx 11. Overall, everything I've seen from the original feels so much more washed out and just... not as great.
I can tell you right now, 1.XX had better textures than our current game. Seeing up close shots of NPCs and myself...in those horrible looking textures...makes me want to rip my eyes out.
I would play it , definitely.
