Hi, I won't even care in read the rest of comments of this post. Just going to say one thing:
NO.
It should be the word we should automatically say whenever we read "Cash shop".
(Almost hissed when reading the tittle of the thread.)

If you want to be that picky, then just consider it like TV. You pay a fee and get some channels. But renting specific movies instantly in the TV store costs a little extra.
Renting is optional, since you can wait until a channel shows the program. But it is a shortcut for people who want things now.
(In before "TV is pay2win")
I'm not being picky.
I won't pay more than my subscription.
Period.
Nobody is forcing you, which is the point of a good cash shop. It only contains things you can get for free if you play a lot.
Now a bad cash shop, it would have things you want like "hardest dungeon access, 25 bucks", but nobody on the entire planet want that kind of cash shop.
You jump so far into conclusions that you've now time traveled. You're so over reacting it's not even comical anymore. Your claims to this are merely speculative unless you can show definitive proof. I would however have to rebut by saying that in my experiences cash shops are 50/50 in their outcome and really depends on support and implementation by developers.
I could maybe see them doing more character outfits like Lightning/Snow and Warrior of Light like that, it depends on how much they would price them at though.
Se doesn't need a cash shop to profit. They make their money by sellign quality merchandise for their loyal and longstanding customers ( or new) but being apart of the SE account universe def has it's perks when it comes to quality goods!..
Looking at you tidal talisman.. and nation rings!
Edit: RL gear > In game stuff.
WoW's cash shop was pretty good about only releasing a things on their shop as a fairly rare occasion. If FFXIV got something like that, as in a costume/pet/mount every few months (charity sales were also super popular), there's no harm in that in my eyes. Physical merchandise paired with in-game goodies is also cool despite being at Japanese prices - they used to sell silver replicas of FF jewelry that were exorbitantly expensive... imagine them at a more reasonable price + in-game vanity model to play with? Would be fun.
TERA Online's cash shop started out as vanity weapon skins only, then it added vanity outfits, items used for upgrading gear (that you used to be able to get through gameplay and when they added it to the cash shop they made the in-game drop rate for the item pretty much 0), xp and gold boosters (I think), mounts, bank space, character slots, (there may be even more items I'm not aware of) and then just to force vanity lovers to have no choice but to buy vanity outfits from the cash shop they completely removed a system the game had that worked similar to FFXIV's glamour system. Really the only cash shop I've seen that's "decent" is Planetside 2's cash shop but that's a F2P game and this game has no business having a cash shop to begin with.
Or you know they could le gasp add more outfits like that in another cross-over event just like with the lightning/snow outfits. Or they could add them through another crystal tower dungeon. You're far too eager to throw away your money when SE's already shown they're more than willing to add vanity items like that simply for your subscription.
In your eyes it would be harmless. In the eyes of people who value their money in this horrible economy and prefer to not be ripped off by a double dipping cash shop it would look like SE's ripping off/exploiting their customers and would more than likely result in lost subscriptions.
