I see that mmorpg.com reviewers can't take criticism. I made a single post criticizing the timing of the review and got warned for excessive negative comments.
My post count over there is 1
You are not allowed to have a different opinion of the reviewer who played it for 1hr (the guy is like rank 2) 4 months ago... Should be obvious... have to put the game in a negative light or it could hurt sales of the mmos that are paying them to plaster their adds on every corner of the site.
lol Fanboys of the games that sponsor the site don't WANT good reviews for other games. It is a death trap to defend this game on MMORPG.com.
Especially when the site is going to give a half hearted review due to them not getting any hand outs from SE. Honestly that's all that review sites are now-a-days. You pay for leniency, pretty much.
lol just to play with the staff over there a bit, I created the following thread in thier feedback forum titled 'looking for some journalistic integrity'.
http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cf...321630#4338235Quote:
Clearly I cannot find it here. You guys posted a review of FFXIV a mere 4 days before a massive content patch. When confronted with criticism regarding the date when the article was posted you resort to banning and warning the critisizers. Way to go!
Are you guys being paid by a particular publisher? Because it really looks like you are. You can ban me for this if you'd like, I don't really care because clearly I need to look elseswhere for journalistic integrity.
having nothing to add to the thread after pointing out someone had nothing to add to the thread. Fail.
multiposting like 15 minutes later with pointless information. Fail
Information is of zero value. Fail
I liked a sig, and you failed so hard you almost cracked your skull on the ground!
I understand your need for journalistic integrity, but it's a dying standard on the internet. You do not need to go to college to become a gaming reviewer. Many were not brought up with this standard drilled into their skulls. This changed with blogging and the community, even stretching outside of the internet into mainstream media, thinks of journalism as an opinion blog.
Now that there are not real standards for integrity and no one has to walk the line. This is the kind of crap you're going to get. Some guy with no aspirations who has a lot of opinions and thinks he is a big time journalist because he jumbles his words together and sends it to his editor (who actually went to college) leaving him to make sense of the mindless garbage that is spewing out of his orange cheeto stained fingers.
Lol. Just LOL. Those are the people our local haters have been defending. What a rollercoaster of laughs.
@the above: Yep. The Internet had the positive effect of giving everyone a voice, and the negative effect of including unschooled wannabes in the bunch.
Ha they locked the comments on the review to "clean it up" or in leymans terms deleate all posts that disagree with the review
Wait till they do a PS3 Review of the game. Then we will get some decent scores.
Did you guys argue with them all night?
This isn't the only site that does this. Almost all of the major sites are biased. It is based on how much money you throw at them to support their site. This isn't just the gaming sites either.
Reviews are all bull. Don't follow them unless you just want to see gameplay video and screen shots of the graphics.
This reviewer like most seems like they were more concerned with doing the job and clocking out before 5:00 than they were with giving the game a due look.
Well looks like me disagreeing is getting my deleated before i can read a responce on mmorpg.com now shows how biased they really are
I was up all night and I periodically check this thread, I believe that I even posted on the thread around page 17. So, since I've been watching these people go at it for so long I wanted to know if they had worked through the night. You should adjust your attitude because you are so consistently wrong and your heir of superiority is pretty much ineffective on me.
You are failing at an unparalleled rate and should rectify the situation immediately.
well i guess i arent

Dear Delsus1,
You have been issued a temporary ban by one of our moderators.
Category: Other
Span: 07/19/2011 - 07/21/2011 23:59:59 [3 days]
Reason: You were warned about making non-constructive comments and as a result you have been issued a temporary ban to give you an opportunity to cool off. "You should have been up to date on the information from SE like the entire playerbase and media and known it was coming out, you should have thought your integrity could be brought into question. Also when was the game under review? and how much did the revewer play for, because it doesnt seem like much. Also if there isnt a re-review after 1.18 or 1.19 at the latest, no matter what is said about it I will be 100% that your site only gives good reviews to games that give you more money."
This temporary ban was generated from the following post on our discussion forum:
Thread: Final Fantasy XIV: Final Fantasy XIV: The Official Review
Below is the content of the post:
lol thx delsius that shit be funny!
Some of my posts were just deleted for arguing with another poster about something totally unrelated to the article, we didn't even call each other names nor did the posts get heated. LULZ. Iron handed this morning MMORPG.com holy man. o.O Oh well! ^_~
I dont want to sign up to their forums but i think it is fair to say their site is fubar and ugly yet somehow very popular o_O
zomg there is a "low score" on a arbitrary scale on a site i have never heard of before, The reviewer has the audacity to bring up valid points and give there honest take on the game. These views are contrary to mine Raaaaaaggeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!11!!one!!1
I wouldnt call this unconstructive, its why I got banned there relevent questions, or they want to silence me for 3 days:
"You should have been up to date on the information from SE like the entire playerbase and media and known it was coming out, you should have thought your integrity could be brought into question. Also when was the game under review? and how much did the revewer play for, because it doesnt seem like much. Also if there isnt a re-review after 1.18 or 1.19 at the latest, no matter what is said about it I will be 100% that your site only gives good reviews to games that give you more money."
a bad review about a game in a terrible state.Whats the big deal.
Sure thins can turn around (hopefully) but going there to argue that gods exist and he is coming in 1.18 is plain absurd.
MMORPG.com have always been like that,im actually glad they said something bout ffxiv at all.
No matter how biased the reviewer opinion might be, or no matter how bad the timing might be.This crusade in defense of ffxiv is definitely popcorn material.
/ma "Stoneskin" <me>
I don't disagree with the score, nor do I deny they do make some very valid points about the current state of the game. I do question why they would not at least hold off putting up the review when a major patch is slated a mere 4 days away that does a complete overhaul of the battle system as well as a plethora of other things, and edit in changes it makes (or is 1.18 still a confirmed "rumour" :P ).
I doubt it would instantly turn the review to a 10, but after a few days some of the things written in the review will just be plain false, and I can see why people would question their integrity on that (although I don't follow MMORPG ever so I don't know about the conspiracy theories surrounding the site). If/when they re-review the game after a few more patches I look forward to seeing what they say again, but hopefully they can hold a review and edit in changes prior to a patch coming just days away.
if you would have come on here and said something about about se along the lines like this you would have been banned here also or gotten a tos violation email. if a site is in place and you go in attack the site they are within their rights to stop your posting. by saying they better review again after the patch or you were 100% sure the only reason for the bad review was because other games paid them for it you not only attacked the reviewer, but the entire site.
i am not saying you were wrong about what you said so don't take me the wrong way, but had i been a mod there i would have banned you for the post also. i've been moderator on many forums over the years and most sites will either ban you or at the very least delete your post for making posts about the site itself.
if your reply had posted the changes that are being made in this upcoming patch as a rebuttal it would have been alot different than actually talking down the site.
"talking down" is a big and wide area. Valid criticism can definitely be defined "talking down", and should definitely be allowed on any website or comment section.
In this case this article is the result of a whole chain of poor choices, from the publishing date to the fact that it shows only a few pictures from the very first hour of gameplay and creates suspicion about how much the reviewer actually played the game. Due to that even harsh criticism is entirely called for, and shouldn't surprise anyone.
If a site goes public with any kind of editorial content and doesn't want to be "talked down" when such content is in poor quality and taste (like in this case) they shouldn't have a forum or a comment section and they shouldn't encourage people to comment.
Truth is that many sites enjoy massively the traffic generated by contents and forums, but they are a little too insecure in their footing and content to be able to accept the flak that comes with it in stride.
the so called "community manager" wont even reply to my emails, that was 1 line of a post its easy to deleate, the rest of that post was relevent questions which should have been in the review. Alot of people would deleate the line, answer the questions and say "talking about the website in the manner you did will result in action being taken" then I say it again they could ban me.
Funny thing is they have never denied it
I was a forum moderator for the official forums of Ultima Online once upon a time. Logical debate is one thing, but it's another to make posts that contain wanton insults to anyone especially if it's to the site itself.
You can get your point across and even "Talk down" to the integrety of the web-page and whatnot itself as long as you watch your words and don't flat out insult people.
Indeed and that can be considered unconstructive conduct, as it doesn't really add to the conversation. Nor does it make the arguement any stronger.
You can point out suspicions all you want but when you start accusing people / places of things you have no proof other than the easy speculation that it might be true, your not helping your case.
As much as I may agree with what you say it's still ground for being moderated. saying things like "No matter what is said it's 100% that your website take money for reviews" is something you can't back up and doesn't add to your case in any way / shape/ form other than being hillarious.
Not trying to argue with you, just saying that they are able to moderate you on that kind of stuff.
I am English and if I was insulting people I would have said what I said in an email which is "is Blizzard lining your pockets nicely?" What I said was directed at the website in that case you is the collective noun for the website not an individual
While they are able to moderate it looks to me as if they are hiding somthing for not replying to what I said, its basic psycology that if you are scared you will try to silence somone for getting too close to the mark. If they had nothing to hide human nature would have been to reply to my legit questions, then warn if i throw anymore accusations around they would ban me, that is how I would have moderated it rather than the scared instant ban hammer, indecating they have somthing to hide
