Teaser of the next FFXIV Race[Spoilers]

But bangaas are hunched over and have long snouts like in the pictureyou posted. SE will probably throw us a curve ball and makethe new race something that will catch usall by surprise or maybe show yugiris face at some point.

Which is why I said made them hot.

I would bet a new race, but if it is an old one I could only think Bangaas. But I don't know the FF series that much. Just the off games. XI, XIV, Tactics, Crystal, Dirge, Crisis, so on and so forth.

Yep I've played quite a few FF games and the only lizard humanoids I can remember are the Bang'aa.

My guess is something closer to Burmecian :) Which would be pretty dern cool.

And anyone who's ever had a pet rat (like I have) can tell you that their tails can be a bit scaly.

Those mice things are a very good guess I think it may actually be it tbh but not viera due to the fact that they don't come from Doma canceling them out right there but the way the strangers ears are depicted I heard you could see a tail too so thumbs up on the rat race :p

Vieras don't originate from Doma though

Yugiri is not a Viera, she has a scale like tail.

Important thing to keep in mind - Yugiri's model and animations are currently just a placeholder: A Miqo'te with droopy ears and a different tail. It's likely the final product will be vastly different and that Yugiri will get a makeover when the race is actually introduced.

True, but what bothers me more is the tail. It looked reptilian. Maybe we can expect some kind of dragon-spawn-esq ninja reptile race?

I expect a Rat like Race....you know like Freya from FF9? thats more realistic than Vierra for me with how her Tail and ears look. Bangaa? No way they are to bulky even females are for that race.....But i do believe Yoshi P said he wanted the new race to be completely Original for FF9 so im hoping for the rat like race like Freya <3

I think the style, size and color of the tail is still way more lizard than rat.


That being said, those guys look awesome and I want them in the game.

I still think it's a dragon girl of sorts.

I doubt we'll have a true beastial race. It'll most likely be similar to miqote in that excluding their ears, eyes and tail and few optional facial markings they'll be a pretty human. They may even go as far making them more "rugged" lookimg like roes.

I dunno, you can make beastial look pretty cute...plus it would make them really stand out.

Doesn't appear to be ears. They seem to be most definitely horns. That does knock the "Viera" out.

Agreed they look like upside down horns we see on Succubi and valefor in ct/amdapor keep.

The thread title got me so excited. Then I clicked and realized I already read/knew about it.

Hmm.... I don't understand why people still cling to Veira when she very clearly has an armored/scaled tail.

You can see it several times, at your leisure on her character model as you play the story and shes just standing around.

it's obviously gonna be the Qunari from Dragon Age series :P

They could be padded down because she wears a hood too.

EDIT - To be honest, she's probably just going to be some sort of Reptile.
The tail is a throw off...I highly HIGHLY doubt that it's a Viera.
The Viera HAVE NO TAILS.

2 reasons ..

1- We don't know what's actually going on with her tail fully. People have pointed out that the scale like pattern could simply be a braided tail that has enuff fluff/ hair/ fur to braid

2- This is FF ARR. Whose to say that they wouldn't be treated like the Galka -> Roe / Mithra -> Miqo'te transition that changes their appearance a bit? We already know from the coeurl that something having a scaled tail doesn't mean it can't be furry or non-rodent.

Yoshida said he wanted a Dragonkin race, the tail is -clearly- reptilian, the ears are pointed and extremely firm (the bouncing mentioned I never saw but I suppose its possible), she's wearing a mask to hide a face that might frighten or shock people (her words), a Viera is not going to shock anyone we already have miqote.

It's either a Viera thrown in a chemical vat or it is just not Viera, I'd say evidence leans more to the later and I personally would like that to be the case.

I think it's reptilian. While I would love Viera's, Yugiri is a bit too short for my liking. Either give me Fran or go home. I would kill for it to be Grias, but my guess would be some ffxiv incarnation of Bangaa that's humanoid enough to avoid big armor changes.

True, she could have marsupial like features still simply because SE have the artistic freedom to bastardize the rules of nature anyway they wish. However the likely hood of that happening is rather small because if there is anything SE are fantastic at - it's following a theme.

They don't wiggle at all in her fight scene. At one point she even looks straight downward and they maintain position.

Not sure why you posted that image, I saw that before posting. Was even gonna note on how "team braid" looks at the clear bit of hair/ fur tuff that's the same color as the tail ... which would be kinda odd for a reptile to have body fur.

And are you implying that I don't think the artist are capable? I feel like the tail is a massive Red herring which is why I think the tuff of hair is important. I could tots see that as a braid much like the horse butt pics I posted.

Not sure how "changing a races appearance" from bunny to bunny with a selection of strange tails is small in chance but ehh...?

That's why I said firm with jiggle. I watch her head things like a hawk in the reg talking cut scenes and they differently have give and animation on them from what I can tell. Much like how my characters hair and such have animation on them ... doesn't go flopping around realistically when she's doing stuff but you can tell it's there for the small interactions.

I dearly hope it's not a Viera. This game needs more variety in playable races.
I'd say a dragon or beastman race, give us some variety. 'cus I must say the current playable races are quite plain.

Viera is from FFXII. The universes are all separate from each other so there is no way it will be Viera.

Anyway I will be sticking with my elezen :D.

Just no. I don't want to bite, but no. I doubt that Yugiri is a Viera also, but the fact that Vieras appeared in XII/TacticsA-A2 does not disqualify some variation of them from appearing n XIV. SE has been pretty clear that while XIV is it's own MMO, it is also a Final Fantasy MMO and that elements from other FFs can and will appear in this game. So far, we've gotten the Crystal Tower and the Golden Saucer is on it's way. Mobs from XI/XII/XIII have all appeared in some way or another. The new race may be something completely new, but if they want to pull it from another game and implement them into the game, they will.

You realise those are spines right? They're not hair or fur of any kind. Many reptilian species have spines along their backs and tails. Those two little protrusions at the base of Yugiri's tail only serve to further support the fact that she is reptilian.

Quite honestly the arguments to the effect of her being anything other than a reptilian race are just clutching at straws at this point. Do you truly believe she could be a viera-like race, or do you just desperately want her to be one...?

There is a lack of a "ugly" race. With scales on the tail and horns/spines on the head I am hoping for a bangaa type race. Scales, claws, and some pointy teeth.

In FF12 the bangaa shared a common ancestry with lizardmen, but don't call them lizard men!

Is there a race in ff14 you can see the new race being based on? Something entirely new?
