Aren't Demolish and Touch of Death fixed on a 2.5s GCD, regardless of GL and Skill Speed? Don't have a source, only remember this claim flying about in a P4 monk discussion.. but if true, then it would considerably reduce the value of both attacks.

SO, from what i'm reading from this, skill speed is a MUST and you gotta stack it to get the max dps
While the DOT skills are higher total potency, have you considered that you are wasting a GCD that could otherwise be used to start your next cycle, leading to higher potency/crits/gl/etc.
I'm no MNK expert but I'd like to hear people's thoughts on the DOT skills with this in mind.
No matter what I do, dropping of ToD and Demolish is increasing my DPS >.<
WTB Reliable parsers
Unless I'm mistaken dots can crit. I've watched mine tick on the dummy, instead of showing the crit animation it just shows an increase in damage.
Also what a lot of people seems to forget is that DoTs are also damage that keeps going when you may not be in range of the target to actually physically attack it.
Using DoTs is the way to go, I've never heard of a DPS build saying "Don't use this ability, while it does more base damage, other abilities may crit and do more damage." At the end of the day crit is a chance.
It's usually based off what's going to pull the most damage in a single GCD. If the dot does more damage if left to run it's full course than a normal melee ability. I'm going to use the dot in that GCD because it's a DPS gain. No way around that really.
Demolish is definitely one DoT a monk should always use. It is the only dot that actually changes stances and applies grease lightning, so there is no excuse to not have this up through out any fight really.
ToD is "use when deemed appropriate". It does not change stances or apply grease lightning. Also because of it's longer up time this DoT might not always see all of its damage through and thus you will have wasted a GCD on casting when you could have used it to use a more direct damage ability.
Fracture is one im not to familiar with. I really don't want to bother myself with throwing in a second DoT that also does not change my stance or apply grease lightning. Especially since no damage parsers out there calculate DoT's efficiently, saying that it increases damage is just hear say until DoT's can actually be tracked.
There are a very few fights where the DoT is not going to run it's full course. I realize a lot of the Hard Modes for Primals they will vanish for a few second, Ifrit excluded, but they came back, you may lose 1 tick on your dot, but even with that one tick missing it's still MORE dps than any other ability you currently have, minus your other DoT.
I would say during very short burn phases using the DoTs would be a bad idea, unless the very first attack you can put on the mob would be Demolish. I wouldn't use ToD at all.
I've never had an instance where I've lost GL because I applied ToD.
Also for you people saying that your DPS goes up by not using dots is false. Your burst DPS goes up, that's about it. If you're looking at a parser and saying that, it's because the parser can not record dots correctly. The DoTs go off the server timer. They tick ever 3 seconds on set intervals regardless of when you applied the DoT, meaning you may miss your last tick. So while your parser damage my go up, it's not accurate. Also they're not in the combat log, so there's no way to track them outside of a formula for DoT damage, which would still not be accurate.
While the DoTs may not be affected by skill speed currently, they do benefit from whatever buffs you have active when you apply them.
