When I bought the game I had a warning on my receipt. "Incredible server instability" Haha, thanks for the warning.
Instead of having to fix these issues, enough people are just going to go back to whatever there last mmo was and continue playing a game that works so that the servers aren't full anymore. I would feel bad for them if they were in a situation like Diablo was ware they had no idea how many copies they were going to sell. But with FF14 they knew many Legacy players there were, how many pre-orders there were and how many online orders were lined up. in my area they aren't even selling physical copies of the game in any of the department stores. So they should have known what the server loads were going to be like. There is no excuse for this.
Even without the problems I would consider it a miracle if less than 50% leave. It's not that FFXIV is especially bad, but that is just the way with MMO's nowadays. GW2 was the same as was Terra as was the secret world and the list goes on and on.
That is why SE is most likely hesitant on aquireing new hardware, because there is no way they'll need it in a few weeks... That's why SE is kinda dumb for not going for cloud technologies.
We're tired of waiting.
I can take that there is problems in the starting of a new MMO. What I am having trouble with is that they say the servers are online and that the login is online etc when its clearly not...
Being bad at launching is one thing, being ignorant and rude to the playerbase is another!
The servers ARE online. It's simply that they are full and the lobby server is probably down a while ago, because of all the people that try to login. It's only a matter of time before the whole server farm crashes. I'm actually quite suprised that they are still online.
Oh .. and the server status is accurate because it is most likely linked to a simple query onto the server .. like a dos ping.
I'm curious how SE is going to solve this issue. An AFK-/Logout-System isn't something you can build in a matter of days. I sure hope they don't have to start from scratch.
