The growing entitlement issues of the casuals

It's not entitlement so long as convenience level remains independent of content difficulty.
Too many times hardcores are simply people without the social skills to be wanted, so they champion content so annoyingly weedout that they're needed.

I think there are a lot of players who are trying to make this game too EASY. That has nothing to do with making it more CASUAL although there are overlapping players who want the game both easier and more casual.

Those are the players you don't listen to, becaues they just want the product bent around them to the deficit of the game's actual quality.

CASUAL is a CONVENIENCE issue not a CHALLENGE issue.

Casual players are okay with challenging content. They are not okay with making it challenging just because it's overcamped, painful to grind mindlessly, or takes 4 rangers and 3 thaumaturges or you're boned.

My definition (and rough outline, and stereotypes!) of the casual to hardcore spectrum:

-- Casual --> 2 to 3 hours (12 - 14~ weekly)
Generally a very social person who wants to have fun & play. Asks alot of questions & always willing to party! Typically sets future goals in order to accomplish & better accommodate their time.
*NOTE: May Flake often, but fun to have around*

-- Normal -- > 4 to 6~ hours (24 - 32~ weekly)
Usually a more dedicated person who doesn't like to waste alot of time to accomplish in-game tasks. They are also usually good about setting goals. May mix all play-styles depending on their time (some days casual other days hardcore), but still usually plays a set # of hours.
*NOTE: Dedicated player, but may also LS hop/flake*

-- Hardcore --> 6 to 12~ hours (40 - 65~ weekly)
This is the person who doesn't mind messing around. They are the alcoholics of the game world. Always ready to move on to the next event with enough time to accomplish many tasks in a given day. Also, moderately, competitive. Occasionally pulls all-nighters.
*NOTE: Very dedicated player. Someone you can count on*

-- Hyper-Hardcore --> 12~ to 24+ hours (70 - 100+ weekly)
Always online and doing something. They are very competitive and enjoy competition. This person is usually very anti-social & is physically deprived or unhealthy. Frequently pulls all-nighters or sleeps only a few hours.
*NOTE: Insanely dedicated, but may often fall asleep during gameplay*

this this is way ffxi wasn't that popular and subs started to slow bleed and barely anyone new. I know this is part of a quote, but again i paid for ffxiv, when I do get to play no matter what my sched ends up being like. I should get to experience a game to its fullest. FFXI wasn't like that and is just about dead from that mindset. Is going through a second merger due to the server player base bekng small. If you think 2K-3K players is small try 500-900.

Honestly w/o a constent influx of players, mmo get stale and stuff gets harder to do that is group content. Either no one has the time to do it, or have done it already.

Again the only challenge should be the events or fights, not how long they take to do or earn the right to do. It sucks playing a game and just because of a time limit unable to see even 30% of the content.

I have read a few pages and I think some of you have already covered this very well. People just need to get over the hateful rhetoric. I am a casual player and I don't ever asking for anything or that I deserve something. I will earn whatever my goal is in due time. The so called "hardcore" players will just have high end gear a lot sooner that I will. I appologize if I am not making sense...so here is an example.

Item X - "BLAH..BLAH Item with awesome stats" or "Crafting to Max"

Player 1 (Hardcore player who plays 7-8hrs a day..5-6days a week) - Gets "Item X" in 6months.

Player 2 (Casual player like me who plays 2-3hrs a max a day... 2-3days a week) - Gets "Item X" in 1+ yrs.

That's my definition. That cares of your dedication as a so called hardcore player. Also, camping a HNM - 24 or 36hr..or w/e it might is just stupid. I believe it is more time efficient to farm pops or get key item through quests and such and do it in an instance form with your friends.

I absolutely, see your point and understand. Although, i personally feel that if one should consider MMO's they should fully be aware whether or not they can allocate a respectable amount of time & dedication into perusing it.
Even a MMO considered "Casual" may be seen as hardcore to non-MMO players or non-gamers.

In many ways it's like a hobby. You get out what you put in (wear a condom!).

i played for that amount of time and i'm nothing like that..... again please stop the casual vs hardcore war. its not making this forum any fun, or making it sound like the community of ffxiv is fun.
Even though I had no time limit after a while I still couldn't do 1/2 the stuff other did like hnm hunting etc. Most ffxi events happen so late at night for me. I woulda loved to do dynamis, sea, sky but seemed like most everyone did it at night or too early : /

Personally i don;t give to gil about gear. As long as I have fun getting it, then it is worth it to me. As long as I get a chance at it I'm happy. I'm happy just trying to get something.

gues you didn't read my 3 part message. I bought ffxi and got landed with a limit. This was after I bought it and started playing. Not everyone who plays mmo know they will end up with limited time. I had to work and save just to get ti play longer just so I can have fun with my LS and my ex I just met at the time.

I feel that players should be rewarded based on a measure of their skill not a measure of their time.

And at the same time I feel like players with less time should not be ground into the dirt by players with more time.

as for my personal definition of casual vs hardcore? I feel that what is important in making the distinction is not the time you spend playing but the mentality you have while playing. Yes spending more time on the game lets you become more practiced and experienced, but when you reward players for time spent on the game rather than effort(I mean real effort, not spending 30 more hours on your pc) you punish people who learn faster than yourself,people who may also consider themselves hardcore players.

TL;DR : People have jobs and kids and school and can be just as competetive ,possibly even smarter and better than you but they're not going to play the game if you win by having more free time.

Simmer down smithy, IDGAF about casual vs hardcore. Obviously it was a generalization of certain characteristics that many people exhibit.
